This channel is designed for those with an interest in Cisco networking. All these videos are intended for learning and training. They are shot by myself with explanations from my experience. I hope you enjoy and would like to thank you for viewing
Question for you for anyone passed my CNA in 2013 Plett that expire and now I’m going through the CNA again doesn’t seem nowhere near as interesting but I was mostly and telecommunications use some networking here and there but mostly just worked on telephone PBX that’s coming to a close I was wondering should I just go over the information for the CNA or and then just jump in into the NBAor actually get my certification get a job then start working on the CCP. I said I don’t need to take the CNA to three and I can jump into the correct certification.
CCNA is a prerequisite for CCNP if that's where you want to go. Phone PBXs are dying off as everyone seems to be going to the cloud for voice, RingCentral, 8x8, Webex/Teams and so on. If I were you, recert with the CCNA, get it and then focus on getting the CCNP. If you want to work in networking, if you want to play around with phones/voice/collab still, then maybe get into that stuff.
Great video Rob. A couple of comments: IR is less efficient than multicast, because IR replicate packets at the leaf (head-end replication), rather than on the spine. Which almost doubles the amount of packets sent out. for layer2 connectivity, when I need to connect to the legacy production network, I always ensure that the fabric has a lower STP priority so that it never becomes the root and allows for smooth migration. However, because the fabric does not forward BPDUs, Cisco recommends making the fabric the root once the legacy environment is decommissioned.
Hi Rob, I'm actually building a greenfield network myself and we're going with BGPEVPN. Can you provide some documentation and/or a book you recommend that describes exactly this architecture in detail?
I just paid for the 25.00 all access but it's not taking me to the full Cisco Enterprise Workbook. Only saw the Demo and 3 videos when I purchased the all-access
I'm working on converting the pdf workbook to the website. You already have the Workbook. When you pay, then login, you'll see the pages you have access too, it's a work in progress
I'm a Patreon member and understand that you are transitioning over to the website. So should i be canceling my Patreon subscription and signing up for the All Access Pass on the website now?
Networking is such a specialized skill it isn't surprising that so many networks are badly configured. I worked at a company that used routing processes as a substitute for VRF. It was madness.
Not sure what that notification sound was that kept going off, but it's the exact same sound I have on my work phone for Webex messages and I kept thinking someone sent me a message everytime I heard it.
I have 3 standard Switches because some are 1GB and some are 10GB, can you still use a Single DV switch? and just adjust Teaming, or use Multiple DV switches?
@@RobRikerTechChannel thanks for your answer, do you recommend this server? DELL PowerEdge R630 8SFF Server 2x E5-2690v4 2.6GHz =28 Cores 256GB H730 4xRJ45
Hi, speaking of Design, how DC core should be connected to Campus core? For example: there is location where users are sitting and also Data Center, and we need to interconnect Campus Core (catalyst switches) and DC Core (nexus switches). Interconnection between Nexus and Catalyst should be L3 with some sort of routing protocol running between them or it should be L2 with VLANs spanning between between them? And if answer is "it depends", could you please bring use cases for both designs?
Do group ID's need to match. I have a pseudo wire that is sending receiving on 1 side while not receiving on the other. Cbit: 1, VC Type: Ethernet, GroupID: 9 MTU: 9000, Interface Desc: DSB (DOL_S.6TH_ST_101 MPLS to 27880_Hwy_160) {1030070} [100M] VCCV: CC Type: CW [1], RA [2] CV Type: LSPV [2] Remote Label: 16 Cbit: 1, VC Type: Ethernet, GroupID: 6
This is so valuable. Me being a network engineer , you wont see this kind of valuable content even if paying £1000's . Absolutely brilliant and real time content.Keep it up .
The new IOL-XE (both L2 and L3 images) inside CML 2.7 are really very light, but I think it lacks some features if you compare it to IOSv-L3 and IOSv-L2. So, I don't think you can use it completely as replacement for IOSv-L3, but maybe you can mix and match, in the same topology you can use both images to make as big topology as you want and at the same time it won't need a lot of resources. But of course you can check IOL-XE and maybe it has all features you need. Generally, from my experience IOSv-L3 and IOSv-L2 are not very resource hungry. The most important, please don't use CSR 1000v 🙂
IOL-XE seems interesting, though haven't been able to find a complete IOL-XE (and L2) vs IOSv (and L2) feature comparison chart, other than lacking in programmability features, some funky L1 behavior with ports being down/up or up/up.
Please use /30 between devices whenever possible and whenever it's correct by design, in that case the topology feels more realistic. Staged approach which you want to use for CCDE / Real world networking is a great idea. What I'd like to see it's something like greenfield deployment, when you build everything from the scratch: switching, routing, security (firewall, all kind of vpn, etc.), wireless, load balancers, SP, DC, etc.
I had the issue with Patreon when I tried to cancel it, it gave me the option to get the $25 or $10 price so as not to cancel the subscription. So I was able to get all access for $25.
Website would be best, I believe . The Patreon Enterprise workbook level, so If I purchase the level once and cancel afterwards I have lifetime access. Just so that I'm reading and understanding the levels.
Hey Rob! First off all, let me thank you for everything that you are doing in the networking field. I admire your passion. Keep it up! Could you please help me out...I am trying to replicate the campus design in EVE-NG, the three tier network design that you portrayed in this video and I would like your advice as to which network devices I am to put at each each Layer - Access, Distribution and Core. Should I go with the iosvl2 image for access and distribution and perhaps iosv l3 or Nexus for Core?! I have a dedicated server, so processing power and memory should not be a problem. Cheers!
Hi i have a sophos in eve-ng with lag config on protocol lacp connet this devices to nexus vpc , portchannel and lag interface both up without problem i allowed vlan 10 on trunk but i cant ping svi 10 from firewall and viceversa If this possible for you please run this scenario maybe i can findout what is my problem thank you❤
That is a wild sentiment regarding the self lab building. I feel that the prebuilt labs don't save time when building "complicated" technologies. It is so much nicer to understand all the pieces involved as you inevitably build upon the basic operation.
Thank you Rob , your content is top notch you are one the few ones that know how to effectively explain it concepts and you also give real world scenarios , may God bless you and your family <3
Hi Rob, in one of the previous video you mentioned that you want to size down topology of ENARSI lab. And you were going to remove disaster recovery site from the topology. Is there any way you can keep it? I think it would be interesting to test things related to disaster recovery.
