Vibration from the backflow and the air flowing through. Probably little loose. I’ve had customers come out and say they hear a humming noise while I’m winterizing.
I’m in the Macomb/Oakland county area. We haven’t had rain in two weeks. Everybody was over their system until this drought. And now it’s almost closing season.
I have been looking for a video that shows the low pressure spring adjustment. You are slightly out of focus there, but i think i finally understand thank you. I bought a new head it it's so slow returning that it wont flip the trigger to reverse and its stuck.
That looked like a sprinkler backflow prevention valve you're replacing. I know because mine started leaking & I shut off the water supply at the street.
Is it normal for water to run when you unscrew the sprinkler? I have Rain Bird 5000 and it leaks slowly from the top and from the adjust screw holes. Unscrewed it cleaned it and still doing same thing. Do I need to replace the whole thing?
Hello. So if it’s leaking only while the system is running you’ll have to replace that sprayer, if it’s leaking while the system is off, you have a bad valve.
@tonybahri it leaks when it's off. I researched and it might be because of my sloped yard and this one is the lowest sprinkler head. So it drains thru it, I need to get a check valve installed. What you think?
That could be it too. Eventually it will stop. but it’s just draining what’s left in the pipe. They do make sprinklers with check valves that would help. Remember when install a check valve, might be another sprayer that would drain from also. A few times when I’ve installed a check valve I had to do two sprayers because the other sprayer started draining too after. If that makes sense
There should have been definite upgrade on every one of those valves some customers just don't don't have the extra money although it's like taking out a motor and putting back in dirty parts
Good content. Although I would note I have had 20 of these in my yard for 25 years. Its much easier to replace the guts of the thing with no digging involved. Only once in 25 years did I have to dig one out and replace it. A truck had driven over it and broke the housing.
Also, I have installed one of these on a sprinkler spike that I can connect to a garden hose. You can take the guts out of one in the ground and use the housing on a spike to troubleshoot issues with the mechanism without having to get back down on the ground to reinstall it. Saves the back and knees.
Thanks for watching and the support. I usually change the whole thing. Customer paid for the whole sprinkler, I like to make them happy. But if it’s a tight squeeze or a lot of roots, I will just remove the guts. And it’s best to clean the pot before, and after removing the guts, makes it easier when installing the new one
Man, I was getting ready to do some crazy stuff like dig up the soft line and install a ball valve to turn off my backyard sprinklers. I was worries about potential leaks from that due to freezing. But a cap is all I will need. This is why we have professionals lol. Thank you for this.
What if the mower cut off the whole top part that you twist off and can only see the inside? Does the whole thing need to be removed and replaced? New homeowner and new to irrigation systems 😅
Such a great video. I've recently replaced all my heads, fixed cracked lines, dug/re-dug them to the exact heights of the yard. Even replaced 6 inline zone valves and wired them to my timer. But for the life of me, I could not figure out how to adjust these impacts and all the damn water spraying fast af. I really thought I would figure these out with out instructions. Thank you!
Do they make right handed backflow preventers? The pipe leading to the sprinklers is to the right of the pipe coming out of the house and so the shut off valve sits against the house because they installed a left handed one backwards. Also, what if your state requires that only a plumber with an ASSE certification fix your backflow.. I mean they won’t know.. so who cares right? or is there a permit process?
You can use the same one just turn the shut off valves the other way, but has to be taken apart for adjustments. I think most states require a permit or license plumber to install back flows but not for repairs.
Great video. The thing I would add is put the canopy on snuggly before turning the water on and then listen for the pop sound of the poppet to ensure the pressure is completely creating a vacuum otherwise you make still experience leaking or overflow.
I have no idea where mine is buried. It's the only one on the side of the driveway. No wet spots and no hissing. I can't go around poking the entire yard. Any ideas?
@@Dark4estImagery probably clogged. Poke around or have someone by the controller turning it on and off and maybe you can hear it. I’ve had luck with that few times
Can you pull up the sprinkler when it is not turned on? We bought a house and some of the sprinklers have roots growing down into sprinkler so the water doesn’t spray correctly. Thanks.
I did let it cool down for about five minutes or so naturally. I don’t want to cause any stress cracks. Usually, by the time I put away all my stuff away. I start heading inside and then turning the water on.
