I did that with my mom and a favorite hymn book. She would sing along if she could. Later on, when she couldn't even talk, I could see it in her eyes that she WAS singing in her heart. She knew all the words to all the choruses. Precious memories. Sweet Carol, my mom.

@@njhart6236 aww {{hugs}}! Thank you for sharing! Yes- even when they can’t sing the words, their eyes show their heart! What was your Mom’s favorite song? My Mum loved singing Jesus Loves Me so much, that we sang it as a congregation at her memorial service.💗
@njhart6236
@njhart6236 9 дней назад
It's hard to choose just one because she was a pastor's wife and very musical. She knew the choruses to any song I started to sing. One of my favorites was, "Are you weary? Are you heavy-hearted? Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus. Are you grieving over joys departed? Tell it to Jesus alone. Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus. He is a Friend, that's well known. You've no other such a Friend or Brother. Tell it to Jesus alone." As a pastor's wife, I'm sure she had to sing that ALL the time. She did not have an easy life.. My younger sister was her primary caregiver for 12 years. They were both widows. My sister was an excellent cook and she took such good care of Mom that the visiting hospice nurses were always commenting on how healthy our Mom was and what a good caregiver my sister was. My mom didn't have dementia and I think it's because my sister never allowed the doctors to put our Mom on any drugs. I saw an immediate mental decline when the doctor insisted on a low-dose blood pressure medication... the smallest pill possible... but still her speech was more slurred the next day. High blood pressure is not a bad thing in the elderly especially when they are so sedentary. The slight elevation of blood pressure does not harm an elderly person and it actually is helpful for getting blood to circulate to the brain as that is the second part of the heartbeat and should not be diminished.

Very many thanks for these amazing suggestions, one I would like to add is songs or hymns, they never forget the words to hymns from years ago, the words to songs they used to love too. Also, go back in years to funny stories they used to tell about their childhood, it’s amazing just how much they remember from their youth or teen years, my mum used to laugh out loud when recalling events with a friend of hers when they cleaned the boats and ships at Southampton Docks (in Hampshire here in England!! By golly they used to get up to all sorts, thank goodness she’d told me some of those stories when I was a youngster. Anything from when they were young and you’ll see their faces light up. I know they won’t remember it afterwards, but while they’re retelling their tales …they’re alive and so happy! 😊😂 What about knitting and sewing they enjoyed in years gone by? Just start a simple pattern off…could you do some for me please mum?

Yes to the old hymns! I used to sing the simple “Jesus Loves Me” when showering Mum and she would nod her head and mouth the words with me. And I love the reminder to tell stories about when they were young, because they absolutely do fill in and add even more details to go along with the stories. Anything that brings a sparkle to their eye is worth trying! Thank you for sharing the sweet stories and suggestions! When my mom was in a dementia care home, they had a baby changing table set up with dolls, doll cloths, baby blankets, bottles, etc. It brought back the familiarity of motherhood. There was also a fake office set up. Your typewriter made me remember it-a typewriter, old-fashioned dial phone, Rolodex, file folders, etc. They had 'proms' where everyone dressed up, had corsages, etc., and a band. It was prom night!

What if your loved one has a masters degree in European history? He hated those mindless shows from the 60s. This is yet another challenge. Someone should make a streaming device for dementia patients that avoids violence and confusion but perhaps stimulate the brain to a small extent.

Hi! I did not know this company existed 10 years ago when I took care of my Mum with Dementia. I used several different brands with her. When I started doing research for this channel, all the other platforms I go to just encourage those on the Dementia journey, constantly had people mention how much they loved NorthShore as a superior Adult Diaper. So I checked them out, got the product here so I could feel and see it for myself, to compare with other brands and I can say with no hesitation, the MEGAMAX / the 3 I showed, are the best design I have seen. Way better than what I had available- and they have a ton of other products- I did 4-5 diaper changes daily with Mum because the store ones just weren’t the same quality. If you go to their site, they will actually send you a free sample pack of what you want to try and that way you can see for yourself before purchasing any. Please come back and let me know what you think when you get them. I’m excited for you because I know they will make a huge difference. Blessings!

I have used these for 6 years. mostly Mega max 12 hour one. They last 12 hours for sure if you do not poop and have to change as you should never let anyone lay in poop. But I am bladder and bowel incontinent for over 20 plus years due to nerve disease. North Shore saved my life. Nothing else works as good as NS products. They are not cheap but you get such longer times between changes. I am active and go bowling all the time and no one knows my issues. I never have leaks. Never. I f I had a leak /i stayed in them well over 12 hours. They draw the urine deep into the core and the skin still feels dry after 4 or even 5 wettings. I use the 12 hour most all the time but I do use the 9 hour airlock mega max too. Adam the owner is Amazing and has talked to me several times in person. Their customer care is next to none. They changed my life. No joke they changed my life!!! I have tried every brand made. You can wear them up to 12 hours with zero skin break down. Plus if you are active the plastic landing strip and tapes never loosen or stretch. NorthShore gives complete free samples if you want to try them. I will say the six=zing might run just a bit larger than most. I am a huge fan of Northshore. you will have no regrets. My order for the month just came in.
