Growing up in manhattan, my closed toe summer shoe lifestyle was solidfied at a very young age. I only started buying "slide" sandals that still mostly cover your feet like two years ago for errands now that I moved out.
I cringe every time I see a samba in the wild. Also, after watching you for the very first time I bought some red espadrilles 😂 I didn’t need telling twice!
The best sneakers I own that are samba-like are the onitsuka tiger Mexico 66. They are similar in shape and style but the leather is sooo much softer. They truly feel like being barefoot
That was hilarious when you started talking about FFA jackets. My cousin actually got hers authentically through a horticulture program at our old school… I might have to steal it now 🤭

summer shoes are my ultimate pet peeve, but thats because im super picky i hate showing my toes so no sandals, i dont want a ballet flat because they're too close to the ground for me and platforms are too heavy for summer, sneakers are suffocating to wear with socks... i don't know what to do 😭 i had my eye on some jazz sneakers actually because they seem like the right mix of comfort and breathability but i've yet to pull the trigger. for now im settling with the vans slip on ive had since i was 18... they're v athleisure and i'm trying to 'adultify' my look now that i'm gonna turn 26 so for now they do the work !
I know exactly what you mean about the sandals, I can't find sandals that I actually like that don't look 2014 lol the sandals you shared were actually cute but soooo expensive, but leather is worth it...
For some reason I have been eyeing Keds shoes lately. They have some very effortless and summery sneakers that have a timeless vintage flair to them. Don't know if you'd like those, but those came to my mind when you asked for sneaker recommendations
Seeing any red polished shoes reminds me of that folktale about the girl who fell in love with a pair of red shoes, wore them everywhere, went to church in them and spent the whole time staring at them and not paying attention, eventually the shoes meld to her feet and she dances herself to exhaustion and then she .. dies??? I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be a message against materialism for little kids but I love the idea that I might be that in love with a shoe to the point where its supernatural
Watching you talk about the shoes as a French girl was SOOOO funny, “Mon Chéri” is a cherry chocolate with alcohol here, very grandma drinking in disguise.
Aw did you live in Garmisch? Such a beautiful area! I went to Munich International School and had lots of friends that lived on base, I loved going down there.
SHOES. Lol, for small sneakers I’ve been wearing all-white Nike Classic Cortez since they re-released in 2022 and they are pretty low key imo. I also like the Veja brand and Nothing New but have never tried any on. Either way I usually stay away from ones with high-contrast logos just to keep them lower key in case trends die out lol
I get al my Italian and Spanish leather sandals at the Goodwill, almost brand new, and I save them from year to year. They are all feminine and beautiful!
I needed to hear this, thank you Michaela! I experienced severe disordered eating in my early 20’s, and I too, have worked super hard to think more neutrally about my body and integrate healthy habits and mindsets so I can enjoy getting dressed again! I’m also moving away from wearing pink and accepting/embracing my love for more modest, classic silhouettes and style (Princess Diana is my North Star)! Funnily enough, I’m also 26, and my hips have gotten bigger in the last 6 months too, so I totally hear you when you talk about the struggle of wanting to have clothing that’s comfortable for the body you have, and how that feeds into your self esteem. You’re thinking so intentionally about your purchases and you seem super self aware of the choices you don’t want to repeat; I say buy what you need to in order to feel good about getting dressed every day. Thanks for your candor and humor, I love your content!
I think the prices for Sézane clothes are ok, given that the quality is good but the shoes for some reason are super overpriced. Shoes from companies that predominantly make clothes and aren't shoe makers are usually not good quality in my experience. But I totally agree that the sandals are cute and a little bit of a heel is a lot more comfortable to walk in than super flat shoes. Edit: I agree about the mesh flat being a marker of our time and I love them because they are a proper new item that hasn't been around before. Those are rare, because almost everything has been done (repeatedly, too). I just personally find them stupid and would never wear them, so I'm in two minds, haha. Also, re: trends some of them absolutely stick around for years, just think of skinny jeans. Just when I thought they were now a proper classic jean style they were out :) Have you thought about the Onitsuka Tigers? Pretty elegant and even more comortable than the Sambas. Someone else already mentioned Supergas, they're not a proper sneaker but I think they're nice in the summer because they're canvas.
hopefully this is not unsolicited, but i find that my all white adidas stan smiths match everything in the summer and are currently much less trendy than sambas 😊

i was gonna say stan smith ! v parisian "bobo" summer n tenniscore to me hihi
Sneakers are hard to find! Maybe Superga? Diana wore them. I like my pair of Cotu classics in dark bordeaux, but they’re a tiny bit too dainty so I’m still looking for an alternative.
I had the same problem finding slim sneakers that aren't sambas. I was debating on getting the Gola Elan sneakers or Onitsuka Tigers. But i just ended up getting the Gazelles. Love them but I do feel overly trendy wearing them.
I own the leather Michaela flat in black and tan. They re-released them as ballet flats became popular again so I literally hunted them down because they were fully sold out. I've had the tan pair for 2 years and the black for a year and I have worn them sooooo much. Very comfortable and I'm debating getting a mesh pair also. lol
Hey!! Michaela I am your new subscriber here and I really really love your videos so so much you are looking so beautiful and I wish you reach 10K Subscribers very very soon!♥️♥️♥️
i have also been toying w the idea of a new cute sneaker, thinking about getting some onitsuka tigers, annoying that they don’t see new in the us anymore but still……. might have to cop
This was a fun videos. I disagree about shoes being a good investment piece, though. I am older and between your age and mine I found that my feet changed several times to the point where I had to change shoe sizes and could no longer wear certain styles completely. If you ever plan on having children your feet also change size and shape and usually don’t go back to what they were before.
I'm crazy and buy all the shoes... But I thrift pretty much all of them except for going through Macy's clearance shoes like 2 times a year. I also don't have space.... But I am willing to give up space for the cute shoe library ❤
Hi Michaela, I feel you about the difficulty sticking with a low buy and the frustrations we feel when clothes no longer fit. I started a low buy year this year. My ground rules were: 12 new items in, replacing worn out basics or outgrown basics is okay. Because of weight creep/ fluctuations I have replaced 5 bottoms this year. I have spent most of my life struggling to have a healthy relationship with my body and my weight. I am 58 and have decided that it is time to find a new, more realistic target weight. I have gone over my item count goals for the year so far, but the year isn't over. My goal is to draw a new line under this month and start fresh in August. (we are going to Copenhagen and Malmo in July and I am not going to punish my self there) Watching your video it is clear that you are becoming more thoughtful about your style and your spending habits and that is the real goal of a low buy or no buy exercise. you are doing just fine.
Zimmermann makes a lot of A-line shaped shorts, including denim.(expensive unfortunately😢)Maybe you can snag some second-hand online or find a dipe. Denim shorts are ROUGH!!! It's so hard to find comfortable and ones with a nice shape.
i love your wishlists and thrift haul more consumerist-y (LMFAO) videos but i also love ur shopping ur closet videos and styling things u already own. i lovee watching u come up with outfit combos
Self-expression through clothing is so important at different stages of life. Like you said you are out of your teens and in your 20's so filling in those gaps is necessary as your body and personality grows.
