The Mag has to be spot-on those CHs. '69 was the last year of the Mags for street models. One must remember that the purpose for the CH Models was for off-road competition only, ala xlCh. C for Competition...although the CH Model remained until 1978.
You may want to do more research on AMF being H-Ds parent company. You state the obvious, "AMF wanted to make money". Are you suggesting that Harley-Davidson Motor Company was in business as a charity? A "Not for profit"? ROFLMAO! I'm pretty damn sure that the Davidson family wanted to make money too. I love your' '66 FLH. My '66 H-D is an XLCH (yup, a girl's bike, right?). My shovelhead is a '79 FXE and I'll compare the quality of it to your' '66 anytime. Put any blame for quality control where it belongs please, with the UAW union and H-Ds assembly line employees. I would add that you may want to record your' next video either in the direct sunlight OR without the bright light in the background. Best regards, and good luck in the future. Enjoy that fine motorcycle!
Thank you for the complement on the bike. As far as the HD AMF situation. I'm sure the story can go as deep as one likes. I was kinda talking off the cuff with no script. I was mainly trying to explain that HD was always it's own company but that at one time it was purchased by AMF, and that AMF became the "parent company". I was in no way trying to suggest that HD was a charity, LOL. And the production numbers during the AMF years ramped up production significantly. and there were quality control issues. I'm sure union issues existed and attitudes of line workers. Whatever union issues existed, I'm sure there was another side to the story that affected moral. I don't know all there is to know about the AMF years. I was trying to explain what I know about the AMF years, which is more than many but less than some. Some people say AMF was horrible, and Some say that AMF saved Harley. I suspect there are elements of truth to both arguments. Either way, I appreciate your comment and the dialogue it brought. And I think were all happy that in 1982, once again, "The Eagle Soars Alone". Thank you Sir!
Oh yea, one more thing. Any AMF bike that's still around today has got to be an awesome machine with all the bugs worked out. I believe the concept of avoiding AMF years is a thing of the past. For instance an original 79FXE is an awesome old school bike that will only appreciate in desirability. Long live the Shovelhead!
I have the black one on Ebay right now. That may shed some light on the value. Auction ends 6/23/24 at 7pm. My email is the same as the you tube channel. Feel free to email. Thanks
I have a 66 Electra glide has been repainted numbers matching rebuilt top end slightly under 2000 mi on top end 90% original and what's not original could not is easily put back to original Naturally tires what is the price range and what its value
Well, It's on Ebay right now. The auction ends Sunday 6/23/24 at about 7pm. So we'll see what happens in the auction. But regardless, the generator shovelheads will only be appreciating in the next few years.
Interesting. That might suggest that the engine has been rebuilt. Likely prior to 1989 considering I have service records going back to 1989. Thank you for your insight.
It's undoubtably original paint! If you feel different maybe you should shed some light on what color you think the front fender should be. Cuz it sounds like your suggesting HD didn't produce a bike in the color of black. LOL
64 and later had e start.... yeah, I have one... disk wheels started in '51 with juice rear brakes, both really good upgrades. 1973...the last servicar, is correct! THe last HD hard tail! Wow, you have a speedo! Running off the rear drive? Just need a different speedo with the right ratio (ie older). Nice bike!
Yes, for sure the front brake can be improved by "resurfacing the drum" I put that in quotes because it could be an unofficial resurfacing with a wire wheel to remove the glazing and some coarse grit sand paper by hand at an angle. That and some adjustment could lead to improved front braking. As far as the speedo is concerned. i believe one of the hardest parts is removing the glass case cover in a way that doesn't scar it up. I'd rather leave that to someone who has more experience and possibly some specialty tools. Thanks for the comment! This bike is currently for sale FYI. I have it posted on FB and CL in Oregon May 2024
I just bought the Linkert M88 for mine, replacing the toilettson, could you show me your fuel inlet fitting with the air filter cover off? Also, I made a bracket that connects the butt end of the starter to the frame which will relieve the stress that otherwise will loosen and/or strip the tranny-top bolts, or crack the flange.
Sweden here....Great video and beautiful 66👌 1980 I bought a 1979 74" Lowrider. Still useing it however later I bought parts from a 69 flh so now it looks likes an electra glide for more comfortable ride but I still have all oem parts. Loooove my 🥰shovelhead.
I have owned (13 ) H-D’s and ALWAYS wondered “ why “ the fuel petcock is on the left side and that they ran the fuel line in between the cylinders pre heating the gas in the process . I was pleasantly surprised to see this model with a fuel petcock on the right side fuel tank …
Yea, They tried the petcock on the right side for 1966 only. They found it was a problem because if you parked the bike on the kickstand with the fuel very low. All the fuel would shift to the Left tank and not be immediately available for starting. But, yeah, running the line from the left to the carburetor on the right would heat up the fuel. But I guess it's the lessor of the evils. LOL
@@thehowardgarage I’m sure I’ll get criticized by someone … I actually would buy like 2-3 feet of fuel line from an auto parts store ; I would come off of the petcock and after 1” I’d install a glass fuel filter . THEN I’d run the fuel line down the left side and around my oil tank to the carburetor . I never ran the fuel line between the cylinders again . In the southern part of the US , the temps outside get triple digits in the summer months ; and the fuel would dry out and crack the fuel lines between the cylinders with scalding heat rolling off from the front cylinder . Once I ran a clear line and would “ see “ the gasoline actually boiling ! I actually got ( a few ) complements from men who did their own mechanic work and liked what I did . Everyone said that they had never seen what I had done before . I thought that I’d share . Beautiful bike you have ! I was blown away by its original paint and overall well kept condition ! Peace ☮️
Nice FLH. I have a 1 owner OP blue 66 myself. Bought it when they were still relatively cheap. 10g cash. 10k original miles when I got it. She now has 19k. Mine also had the 66-69 tank badges on the saddlebags. I took them off though. Mine had the beaded windshield and it had a sidecar that I didn't want, and we took it off.
Awesome! The side cars are cool, although they do obscure the view of the engine which is too bad. Do you still have the sidecar? I might be interested.
@@mikemybalzitch I'm curious what yours has as accessories. I'd love to see some pics. feel free to send an email. My e mail is the same as the youtube channel name.
Look up the value of hd’s you will see that 66 is not the most desirable,do the world a favour and quit your preaching about something nobody cares about, and get rid of that fairing, your never going to make it as videoligist, talk, talk talk, tomb stone speedo cover ?/?same spot lights???bla bla bla, somebody get me away from this BS, shaft this torture ,help lord Jesus help
I used to follow the magazine "Easy Riders" - through the 80s and 90s - it was always good for a laugh and some great pics of scoots (and girls) until I finally grew up. One thing I remember when Evos came along was a bumper sticker one of the editors pointed out: "God rides a Shovelhead". As a shovelhead owner, I wished I could have found one of those stickers. Never did. IMHO, Shovelheads still rule! :)
Beautiful bike man. I wish I could find one in that good of shape. A buddy of mine had an all original 66 with the sidecar. Engine blew and cracked the case. He took the cracked case to a guy that supposedly "fixes cases properly", and the guy completely destroyed it. To the point it was beyond repair. Ruined the value of the bike
Thanks Bro, Yea, There are pros and cons to having the sole location of the vin on the engine case. Pros, you can put the engine in any modified frame you want and maintain a good vin and title. One of the Cons, if you destroy the left engine case, you lost the vin and proper titling ability.
your right about gods favorite harley, you just have the wrong god.. jesus went to th bike op and bought a Vespa. No sir it was Thor that owned a 66 Heloise and Apollo both had 70 flfs. and thats where the thunder comes from on sunny days.
Whata drop dead gorgeous scooter. Some realy nice goodies on it to. Very cool man. You are good at this demonstration type thing. Makimg it interesting. Great job!
The girl who i was talking to and loved from the bottom of my heart stop talking to me for whatever reasons and it’s hurt really really bad this this.. While i was listenning here to Luka’s, at the end of the video it makes me think and at the same Time, tain start to fall, thank you for the advices Sir !..
Wrong, this sounds like the pussy way out. A real man does not abandon his favorite coffee shop, a real man deals with his problems face on and hardens and ignores if he sees her in the same place at the same time.
Going theough my first breakup at 24 years old. I severely underestimated how much of an impact it would have on me. We were talking marriage, then one day she just ended it. The worst part is she wouldn't put a finger on why. That's what she left me with, a big question mark.
