My nan passed away 7th September 24. She sang this song and we sang this with her every day before and together with her after she passed. We will now forever sing it for her in our lives. ❤
I am an ex British soldier who went to Ireland in 1973 to 1975 as part of the British Terrorist Occupation force. What I saw made me realize we had no right to be there, and I hate what I was involved in. I wish peace to you all. And the song should tear at our hearts.
My scouse Grandad was locked up in a top security prison back in the 50s on the southern coast of England. He escaped some how and got on a boat over to Cobh. He lived in Ireland on the run for 5 years until he was caught and exchanged by the Irish police for an Irish inmate who was locked up in England. He died a few years ago and this was played at his funeral. R.I.P. grandee. Love to the Irish from a scouser.
Joseph. From Mahtomedi, Minnesota. My heart pours out to you. May his memory be a blessing to you. I and my two sons are wishing peace upon your family. Lee, Siochain & Finbarr.

I Know I'm Irish But I Get On Just As Well With British People As I Do With My Own Nationality. I Know They Ruled Us For 700 Years Or Whatever It Was But I Wouldn't Hold That Against Them. When I Was In Secondary School There Was 16 Different Languages Spoken Throughout The School, Whether They Were Irish, English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish, American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealandish, Eastern European, Continental European, Asian, African, South American, Central American Or Whatever They Were And I Got On Just As Well With The Foreigners As I Did With My Own Nationality. As Irish People I Feel We Can Be Very Narrow Minded About Talking To/Approaching Foreigners But They Could Learn From What I Was Saying About Me Getting On With Different Nationalities. It Was In The News About Irish People Not Being Very Welcoming Towards Foreigners But The Irish Should Be The Last Group Of People To Be Prejudiced Towards People, Given All The Prejudice We Got When We Went Out Foreign As The Foreigners Are Only Doing What We Had To Do And Emigrate For Work/Education/Better Quality Of Life So I'd Bear That In Mind If I Was 1 Of The Irish People Who Hold Prejudice Towards Foreigners. As I Said, Bear That In Mind.
That's Also True I Suppose, I Never Thought Of It That Way. The Point Is Though That Nowadays, More Than Ever Before, Different Nationalities Need To Learn To Get Along And At The End of The Day, Emigration And Immigration Are A Lot Higher Than They Were Say 50 Years Ago Or 100 Years Ago Or 150 Years Ago, Which Isn't A Long Time, Given The Context Of Time And I Feel People Need To Be Open Minded About It And About Different Nationalities Coming In, But True, I Never Thought Of It That Way. Their Both Good Points Really, Depending What Way You Look At It.😁😁😁😁😇😇😇😇
They call it a "famine" but England, Scotland and Wales had plenty of food, just didnae gi any to Ireland, yes the Potatoes were blighted, but their was food but not for Catholics
