Great info Scott, thanks. I'm 75 and just now getting into disc golf. I froze your video at about 2:30 and picked up on a dynamic that I have been totally missing. As a former golfer, I always tried to get my back completely turned perpendicular to my target line at the top of the swing. Same thing in disc golf apparently. I've really been cutting myself short by not seeing this. Thanks again! Take care and be well my friend.
Thorns should be outlawed on disc golf courses. Imagine asking that same question about Golf Course design! It's ridiculous to think that a literal hazardous area is ok on a dg course. And hey, im not over 45!! Lol
Dan is the type of person that made me start playing and coming back to disc golf. It truly is a sport more about the places, experiences, and people and not the score. Thank you Dan for the amazing stories and may you make it to another 2500 courses! Also, if innova makes that disc they should put the statistics of where and what courses Dan has played on the print!
Putting multiple basket posts at each hole helps with satisfying players at different levels. Morley Field Disc golf course in San Diego CA is a good example of how having multiple basket posts available to change up every week helps to keep the course interesting to most players.
I like Dan's thoughts on recreational courses and people getting into the game around 6:00 in. I unironically believe Raintree Park in Troy, MI is the best course in Southeast Michigan (home to many many great courses including Toboggan) because it's incredibly approachable to new players. I played my first round there with a disc I borrowed from a friend that was showing a few of us the game, and I had a fantastic time. In fact, our group that day decided to go to another course nearby (Firefighters Park) and play again. There was a guy set up selling discs at Hole 1, and I bought my 3 discs for myself before even starting the round. In a similar vein, McBeth Foundation sponsored the junior course at Palmer Park in Detroit, and those sorts of courses are how you attract new players to the game. Let them experience the thrill of seeing the disc fly and figuring out how to manipulate it before throwing them into the woods with thorns and brambles and the rest of it.
I'd take all the thorns in the world if it meant no poison ivy! I watch the pros play and I wonder how they deal with the patches of the stuff they seem to be often throwing into and out of.
Fantastic video! I met Scott years ago at Portage Lakes State Park. He eagled the longs on hole 9, which is insane! He also took the time to work with my kids for free and to sign our discs, super friendly guy! Dan is a friend and also a great ambassador for the sport. He's designed and helped design many courses in NE Ohio, along with Bill Griffith, who is another wonderful ambassador. I loved this video. Thanks for taking the time Scott.
Had myself a good laugh today. I watched this video just last night and then played at augusta disc golf today and met you in the pro shop while I was holding one of your discs. Was racking my brain the whole game saying I swear I've seen that guy, Thanks for the tips!
Flight Numbers....why bother they are meaningless Those Numbers Change According To Arm Speed Disc Weight Wind Speed Discraft and Discmania Dont Have Flight Numbers.....As long as youve been doing this....youd think you know.....if you know you know Disc Speed Formula is Based On A Arm That Can Reach A Given Speed Are You Going To Add A New Flight Number Called Arm Speed? Didnt Think So ....because that Variable is too broad Tell Ppl To Have Their Arm Speed Checked Them Use Disc Based On That To Achieve Maximum Flight For Them but I guess you just want to push plastic .....
MVP tweaks the flight numbers with some of their discs in different plastics and sometimes with different runs. Also, manufacturers view flight numbers differently. When looking at flight numbers I try to calculate the stability by adding turn and fade together. Some straight neutral discs will have a -1 turn and a 1 fade. So the -1 turn + 1 fade will = 0 stability. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. It helps me narrow down a disc for the slot I am looking for. 2:29 After hearing the bug through the left side, I thought a bug was in my headphone's left ear cup.
