Gen Z are teenagers and adults lol my siblings and I are all gen Z, and all adults. I'm 26, so an older gen Z though. I don't identify with a lot of gen z stuff though bc I'm right at the edge of it. All of our generations have had slang and generational humour. Some of it is funny, some of it is cringe. It applies to boomers, gen X, millennials, gen Z, alpha, etc.
Hi!! Sorry this is kinda long. I think her fire power was purely from the gods her whole life. She was born in the right circumstances and chosen by the gods to be given this fire magic and then forge the lock with the fire magic to return it to the gods. She maybe could have had a mix of water and fire bc of her ancestors but since an heir of Mala had to be sacrificed they took all her fire magic and her mortality. Therefore leaving her with her water magic and immortality. She only got some fire in the end bc again it was given by the gods. As far as her being left with very little magic, she’s a demi-fae and we saw most of the Demi-fae at mistward have very little magic. I assume if Aelin weren’t born in the right circumstances to forge the lock she would just be a normal Demi-fae with her mother’s water magic and a strong enough ancestral line to settle and be immortal.
@@merymoga530 you are my hero, this checks out in my brain. Thank you. 😂 I will now have to do a third read through so that I can *finally* make sense of this ending. LOL
@@Julliettwarner it’s funny that you mentioned this because since we recorded this episode I’ve done a re-read, and knowing what I know now, I picked up on that the second time around! It didn’t even register the first time because I didn’t realize it would be important at the end of the next book 😂
Re: resurrections, resurrecting requires death. Without a corpse, there is no guarantee a person is dead, thus not resurrected 😊 Also, Dain used his sword, violet/Xaden used the dagger 😉 but was there a corpse? Will need to read them again!
I havent read these books, never will, but here are some ideas to flesh out the male characters: 1. King bro wants to marry her to stop the poors from rebelling. But he plans to murder her and blame the rebels so no one trusts them anymore. 2. Cop bro knows all this. Doesnt agree with it. But goes to find her anyway bc his king ordered it. 3. To make her comply with her kidnapping, cop bro says he will take her back, but promises to protect her and make sure she isn't killed. Which is why she stops fighting him to escape. 4. As cop bro falls in love with her, he realizes he'll have to choose between his brother and duty, or protecting her and helping her prove how currupt his family is. In these romantasy books, it seems like the male love interests have little to no agency or depth outisde being hot and pining over the girl like "I'm bad, but I love her." Sir, go home and take a cold shower.
Idk if it was mentioned, but Powerless fans are harrassing Victoria online and accusing her of stealing. She's had to tell multiple people multiple times to check the facts before attacking someone. Idk if Lauren is telling her fans to stop and admitted RQ inspired her. Otherwise, it makes her look a huge P-word and will ruin her reputation going forward 🤷🏼♀️
I'm sorry what? They just don't check the book publishing dates? How is that possible? And how does Lauren doesn’t know this? Because that's something very serious and should be handled immediately.
@@Dani_77709 I mean, the ppl attacking her are like 16 and TikTok-brained, so I don't blame them, specifically. I do take umbrage with Lauren trying to be cheeky and tiptoe around her alleged plagiarism, while ignoring her toxic fans. I notice this behavior with a TON of popular authors like SJM. They can try to hide behind their screens and not take responsibility, but their fans do and will listen if they, point blank, tell them to stop being assholes. But also, ppl like SJM can't take criticism, so their behavior only benefits her. 🤦🏼♀️
This whole thing reminds me also of the vampire academy books by richelle mead and how jeniffer l armentrout has a series many people just say is straight up the vampire academy books with differnt caracter names
@@carolinesch. WHAT!!! Which JLA series is rumored to be a rip off of Vampire Academy? Is it the FBAA series? I haven’t heard anyone compare the two, but I’ve read FBAA so now I need to read Vampire Academy so I can compare!!!!
@@lamebookclubpod half blood. basically vampire academy with a greek Twist, I have read all of vampire academy and the first half blood book and I didnt continue with the series
And then there is me in my review of the lightlark sequel that is just a list about all the scenes and things are are just straight from the same 3 books over and over and over😅
@@lamebookclubpodok long comment because I have a lot of feelings about nightbane.... honestly I liked the little stuff that reminded me of other books in lightlark, like grim having the same Set of powers as rhys because well we all like rhys, or of course the people with the water powers also can kinda heal because thats what they are associated with in stiff like Avatar. But there were so many scenes and type of scenes that just took me out of the story, Its not that it copied one book plot or magic system but for me book 2 just felt like she took what is currently popular and people say they really like from a few books and remixed them together wothout that many original ideas. When I got to the "who did this to you" scene for example, super popular trope but him then eliminating all the guys not just one, was super intersting way to do that trope a bit different. The structure reminded me so much of acotar in general, the main character is together with her guy everything should be a happy ending now but she is not happy, she is kinda down and has nighmares, she than has to see herself work together with the guy she cant stand im her memories, oro suddenly has his own inner circle of friends with similar casual dynamics even though he is the King, the dancing scene where grim just has to be there and watch her reminded me kinda of nesta in her book but its also a popular trope, the whole scene where the romantasy couple has to get to the guy with the info about the sword and scenes where rhys takes feyra to the bone carver, a old being in a dangerous place for info and the whole setup what that Trip does to the couples dynamic and relationship. The whole dancing and her in the clothes at that Club to seduce the guy while grim is there to witness it is such a popular fanfiction trope, I have read that scene just like that so many times, that was kinda funny, there is one single line where he calls her an investment and that is such a huge thing for the six of crows books and fandom, one of the main phareses that people recognise as that particual fandom and on merch. Also the main problem in the trilogy in that same World is a rift of darkness in the earth that causes Chaos and our one guy with shadow powers from the love triangle has to solve that as the general from his army. But a lot of little thing reminded me so much of the crule prince trilogy: the biggest thing is having a dramatic, dont touch her she is my wife reveal, in the crule prince our main girl finds a Page that is entirely just "i hate jude" from the guy trying to convince himslef he actually isnt into her and in nightbane she take a piece of paper and write "i hate him" over and over. When isla goes to to the snake woman to try to convince her to fight, I went lol its like when cardan turned into a snake and the next sentence I read was the snake turned into a human. Also a lot of the wild wildlings are described pretty similar and have the same vibe or act the same as some types of fae in Holly Blacks books. The whole Ritual to get her familiar, I have read something like that before of a girl connecting to her indegious Land and going through a Ritual where she is dressed up to go alone into a part of the Dschungel go get her special animal connection, only there she later realised she already has that without the Ritual. The only thing I cant completly place is the cave scene, I remember reading that, it wasnt a straight up fanstasy book but this guy is on this Mission and has to get a clue from a cave and he goes there everyday and makes it further and further into the multiple traps only for it to at the end not be one he can outsmart but just a dragon. And back then I was reminded of the cave in harry potter to be honest And I have watched a lot of reviews that opened my eyes to a few stuff I didnt completly pick up on, in book 1, not silly stuff like naming everybody very obvious and in spanish or one of the sky twins just ciel aka sky in french, like Alex Aster advertising that as somebody who is Latina and native she will subvert the spicy Latina trope only for isla to be played pretty much straight into the Stereotyp, the advertising of poc hungergames only for the main characters to be mostly just this none descript fantasy tan and the only explicitly Black character azul has the tragic, gay his lover is dead trope and get to have the conversation to isla about having kids was a choice
i haven't read powerless and i've only read red queen a few years back when it was released, but it seems to me that lauren took heavy inspiration from popular ya books way back when and didn't put enough of a spin to it to differentiate her work from her inspirations. but in a way, she does acknowledge that those were her inspirations. for now, i can chalk it up to this being her first book and being written when she was younger, but if the trend continues on to her future stories... i won't know how to feel.
I read Red Queen a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. For some reason Powerless was so hard to get through for me. And I kept thinking it was too predictable. When I heard the comparison to Red Queen it made sense why it was so predictable to be me. It became a copy cat and did not just take inspiration.
@@td02fe It sounds like you and Ellie had similar experiences where Powerless felt familiar and once the connection to RQ was made you couldn’t unsee it!
@@lamebookclubpod Exactly .100% correct. I thought of maybe re-reading Powerless to see if I feel differently but it feels like a chore and reading should be enjoyable. Maybe I will just stick to summaries of that series on RU-vid. I really enjoy your channel!!!
@@zvetlaly HAHAHA not “bad” necessarily, but definitely not a word that most people like throwing around. I was referring to p**sy. I don’t want to spell it out completely and potentially get flagged in my own comment section 😅😂
Great espisode❤ I read red queen first years ago and loved it 🥰 when I read powerless I just couldn’t get behind it because of the similarities. Understand both of your points great video
The worst thing blake did was promote her alcohol line in a movie about DV. One of the worst scenes in the book is when ryle is drunk and assaults lily. Its so tonedeaf.
I want Elaine and azriel. She's the most badly treated character in the book. Every one looks down upon her and calls her boring because she's traditional, feminine and not a boss bitch like the other female characters. I want the underdog to win this time. A different heroine in Sarah's books for once. Just because she isn't an alpha female doesn't mean she doesn't deserve love.
sooooo you guys won't be doing a fifty shades of gray review??? lol - love your channel - good for you for following your beliefs - glad i found your channel.
i would love that - Tamlin needs a happy ending - i really loved Tamlin and felt he didn't deserve the way Fayre has treated him!!! - I hope he finds happiness and i would love to see Fayre in some way have regrets - i really don't like her at all.
Omg. I feel the exact same way about the witch towers. I will say though the visual of the witch falling in the tower was very dramatic and cinematic in my head. I also thought about the Yrene Towers and the towers being too similar also. But maybe it was on purpose? As like foreshadowing somehow?
i feel like repression of women's sexuality in general is a big part of that. as an adult woman, I don't mind the smut at all and enjoy it in most cases, but those are definitely not the selling points in TOG and ACOTAR for me, for example. and those comments of "fairy p*rn" for me is another attempt to shame woman for enjoying completely normal things. like, you wouldn't call game of thrones p*rn, would you? and GOT has lots of explicit scenes there.
What do Ruhn's mom was 'broken' while in the Avallen court? They're traditions of owning females is much stronger than any other court/city we've encountered and she would have been there for potentially hundreds of years before marrying the Autumn King. Doesn't solve the wing issue but she could also potentially be able to hide her wings as Rhys did for so long 🤷🏻♀️
Oh man… I absolutely despise Chaol and I have since his character introduction, but this has to be the one and only time I have to defend him. Chaol isn’t angry because Yrene has a bunch of girls help him and that makes him feel emasculated. He’s angry that Yrene uses his condition as a disabled person as a lesson for her apprentices without asking his permission first. Normally, I would say that the way Chaol reacts with a temper tantrum is not ok, but in this specific reason, he’s right. It is a MASSIVE ethical blunder on Yrene’s part that she, a fantasy doctor, did not ask her patient if he would be ok with being used for med student practice. For a real world translation, the gynecologist I see is a teaching office so they frequently have medical students observing exams and procedures. However, they always ask for the consent of the patient before they allow observation. What Yrene did was tantamount to skipping consent for observation, but also skipping consent for allowing a group of medical students to assist in an IUD implant over and over until they got it right. And it’s especially egregious because Chaol is newly disabled, he’s still getting used to needing help for something as simple as getting in and out of his wheelchair. He feels shame for the help he now needs help for these things. And even though his medical rights have been violated, he goes along with the exercise until the apprentices are gone before he throws a fit at Yrene because he knows she’s the one who’s responsible for his humiliation, and her students don’t deserve to be on the receiving end of his anger. His anger had nothing to do with masculinity. As a person with disability myself, I’d be very humiliated and angry if my doctor treated me the way Yrene treated Chaol and I’m a woman. All that being said, outside of this very specific instance, Chaol sucks, I hate him, and he’s terrible.
Hello! Big fan, but random question. What is that random trumpet noise every few seconds in this video? Was it intentional? Could be the autism, but I genuinely wanna know if it overstimulated anyone else? 😅
Truth is given you a fan of ACOTAR and you clearly didn't want to believe that SJM "borrowed" anything from anyone ... you brain would have subconsciously not wanted to find anything similar given your dislike of the very idea
@@jessecollins4391 this is actually so far from the truth. If you listened to our previous episode where we talked about plagiarism, we addressed the similarities in these series prior to reading Black Jewels. While we are fans of SJM and didn’t want to believe there could have been any similarities between the books, on paper, the similarities are glaringly obvious. We admit this in the plagiarism episode. However, when you actually read Black Jewels, it becomes more evident that the only “inspiration” came from names in the Black Jewels series. The actual plots/storylines are vastly different.
32:25 I’m pretty sure Rhys and Ruhn are related through the Starborn line. In HOFAS, when the hologram of Silene appears, Azriel says she looks just like Rhys’ sister. Silene also goes on to say that when she came back to Prythian, she married a High Lord of the Night Court and tried passed on her story through that line. That would make Rhys her descendant, and therefore from Theia’s Starborn line. We know Silene’s sister, Helena, stayed in Midgard and her descendants became Midgard’s Starborn line, aka Ruhn and Bryce. So they’re very very very distant cousins.
