The Nashville Steam Preservation Society is restoring Music City's legendary steam locomotive No. 576 back to operation. Built during World War II by the American Locomotive Company, No. 576 served on the Nashville, Chattanooga, & St. Louis Railway until it was retired in 1952. It was then donated to the people of Nashville and sat on display in Centennial Park until it was relocated in 2019 for a complete mechanical overhaul. What is the bolt housed right in the center of compressor that sits in what almost looks like a cracked area? Congratulations on the progress with the locomotive.
I played on that locomotive as a child and always looked forward to doing that when Visiting Centennial. I am looking forward to seeing it running under its own power.

I really hope you plan on bringing that thing to St. Louis as that would be a great excursion. Maybe it could be a St. Louis to Chattanooga trip with the following ideas. Excursion: The NC&STL limited It starts up by the National Museum Of Transportation by meeting with 4-8-2 Frisco 1522 and then departing through Kirkwood to Nashville. Once it gets there you host a special event regarding #576 with maybe a meet up with another locomotive (maybe southern 4501 or NKP 765) Then it could run either a double header (likely with southern 4501 as it’s going to Chattanooga) or just single handedly head to Chattanooga and meet with southern 630 and 4501 at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum and then head back to its home in Nashville. I think that would be incredible but where do you plan on running 576?
Its amazing the amount of progress you folks have made with this complete top to bottom restoration. You and the 2716 folks got to work on and even relocated the locomotives at around the same time; but I'm getting the feeling you'll be done YEARS before they even light a test fire.
Dude. Shut up. Quit underestimating steam locomotive professionals. Like the 2716, this restoration moves at the speed of donations. If you keep complaining about the “slow progress” they are making, it’s clearly YOUR fault for not donating. Keep your opinions to yourself, because you expressing your underestimation is not worth it. Find something better to do, such as community service.
Can't wait to see her running. Outfit her with PTC if'n y'all can so she can run mainline excursions on NS and possibly CSX. Maybe even BNSF if'n y'all find a way to do that.
