I came to watch your video because I painted with a sponge applicator, and I kept wiping the paint off of the inside corners (seams?) of my bookshelf every time I painted. Plus, I had to apply like six coats. Then, when I went to apply Polyacrilic with a sponge, I took off the paint on the same place all over again. After watch long your video, I think I’m not applying enough paint, my sponge was dry to begin with, I don’t have my paint in a bowl so that I can get full coverage on my sponge. I must be doing that dragging that you’re talking about. Plus, you said something about going back and touching up those spots with a different tool. I can do that also. Anyway, LOVE your busy mom, easy solution style! ❤

@rjrnshan It sounds like you are on your way to make this technique work for you. So glad you found this video helpful ❤️❤️ Another idea... dampen your sponge with water before painting your next coat to make it softer. Also. I do not recommend this trick for applying a sealant... only paint. Please check out my videos about applying Polycrylic. Good luck with your project!

if wax is first can you then use the polyacrylic
@PorchNook
@PorchNook 2 месяца назад
@sharlenechristensen4103 Hi Sharlene👋 In my book, wax is always last. When considering the bonding/curing process, water (Polycrylic) doesn't mix well with wax... kind of like when you see spilt water beed up on a freshly waxed wood floor. 💧

Thank you so much. I was so nervous about doing this. Just one question. I've heard you should sand between coats. What are your thoughts on sanding between coats. I really don't want to if I don't have to lol
@PorchNook
@PorchNook 3 месяца назад
I'm so glad we connected, Jennifer! Thank you so much for watching and for reaching out! To sand or not to sand... it depends on who you ask. The polycrilic manufacturer will say yes, some furniture painting artists say yes... I say no. The motivation behind this debate is traditionally to 1) avoid streaking and 2) maximize the durability of the sealant. Streaking can occur when polycrylic is brushed on. You will find among the long list of comments under this video that there are lots of folks who sand, and still the streaking won't go away. This is when I recommend the spray-on version of the polycrylic to avoid this annoyance. Regarding durability, as long as you allow your piece to fully cure for 30 days to reach maximum durability (per the manufacturer's directions) you will be a-ok in my opinion. I've never had a durability problem due to not sanding. My friend, it is time to delve into your project and get started! If you are still nervous about this step, I recommend finding an unwanted cabinet door and test out the process YOU like best. Be sure to share come back and share the process you land on... I would love to hear about it! xoxo

Why do you not prime or sand if you don't mind me asking? Besides the point of saving time.

Good morning! Lots of pleating will be the key. Similar to what I did on the corners of my cushion, you will need to fold over (pleat) as you go. Good luck on your round cushions! Thanks for watching! Say hi to California for me... I sure miss it.

Can you apply polycrilyc on top of wax? Thanks
@PorchNook
@PorchNook 7 месяцев назад
"Wax is last" is the rule of thumb. A water-based sealant like polycrylic, will not work well on a waxed surface. It's kind of like when you wax your car, the wax repels the water.

I'm jealous! I have some but maybe only 20. Another idea is to decoupage on the back ( usually flat) side some beautiful print and attach to a necklace ie instead of a tassel.

I put a 2 gallon ziplock bag with acorns put in fridge bottom drawer. I checked in a week and I could not believe how many worms were in these acorns. Sadly the acorns were full of holes when they weren’t when I put them in the fridge. A oven seems better. Thank you for this video!!! 👍🏻

When I used 220 grit after first coat of polycrylic it took some of the paint off the piece I painted. I switched to 600 and it did the same. What did I do wrong. I painted the furniture with a roller.
@PorchNook
@PorchNook Год назад
Hi!👋 How frustrating for you... but don't give up. Many factors and questions come to mind. For example, dry time allowed between coats, furniture paint brand you used, how the piece was cleaned before painting, amount of pressure used when sanding. A little more detail grim you would be helpful ❤️
