First time I saw Greg in person he just poked my fresh new Car Bomb shirt and said "nice shirt!" And he was gone before I had time to react hahahaha Amazing artist, The guy keeps inspiring me.
Not crazy, this is one of the most underrated metal albums of our time. Press press press, I play you guys every town I tour. 31 now been a fan since MySpace 15 years old
You know the guitar player from slaughter to prevail thinks he's the first dude to have a blood splatter guitar. That's how far behind those dude are. Just saying.
I haven't watched this yet but I hope the band doesn't plan on performing an anniversary tour or whatever without Alex. A big sect of fans (possibly a majority) of that era resent them heavily.
Thanks for this interview, man!!! Very interesting to hear. Vehemence has always been one of my favorite metal bands since i was about 17. Absolutely amazing songwriting. Really excited for the re release with the new mix. Great album, but ive always been a bit bummed on the mix,and also thought the demo "kill for god" was so much better!
@@Xandoscritters thank you for checking it out! Especially an older interview I did. So glad to see people still enjoy this band and album as much as I do!
Not nearly underground / extreme metal as you guys are, but here is what I'm at: 1 Judas Priest - Invincible Shield 2 High On Fire - Cometh the Storm 3 Unleash the Archers - Phantoma 4 Pallbearer - Mind Burns Alive 5 Kerry King - From Hell I Rise 6 Darkest Hour - Perpetual Terminal 7 Evergrey - Theories of Emptiness 8 My Dying Bride - A Mortal Binding 9 Alcest - Les Chants de L'Aurore 10 Bruce Dickinson - The Mandrake Project Still need to hear the Crypt Sermon which I know I will like.
Mitch said it well that they werent trying to rush but also not trying to make it too precious. Thats what makes this band so special in my opinion. It feels sonically aesthetic but not too doctored or contrived as so much music is. Its raw and real. Great interview.
I am a straight dude. But have been very pro LGBTQ+ since as young as I can remember. Partially due to being bullied and had alot of gay friends, I got called alot of slurs. And the "who's the fucking f***t now?" Lyric always hit me so hard. It's shameful how many people heard the word and completely misinterpreted the intent of it thinking Elysia didn't like gay people and all that. They were ahead of their time in alot of ways. That's not to say some of the lyrics did not age well and pretty "incel-energy". But most bands were at that time. But awesome he's addressed the lyrics and gave context and not a fan of alot of them.
It's not about being a "true" breakdown, as stated the earliest years are proto breakdowns, as in, if you listen to the pattern and chugginess of what's played it's been used and evolved into breakdowns.
Great mix of classics and super deep cuts, thanks for introducing me to One Second Thought. I consider Embodyment as close to modern deathcore as possible for an earliest release, but that example from One Second Thought sounded straight out a modern deathcore record albeit with late 90s production. Wild stuff! Edit: just got to the Thorns shout out, never expected to see them on a breakdowns compilation in a million years. Anyone sleeping on black metal needs to check them out ASAP, absolutely unrelenting metal.
I've always thought that Lion of Judas came out just a few years too early and was ahead of its time when it came to that style of hardcore. If it had come out in like 2015 or later it would have been a hit.
Awesome podcast! This band was one of my absolute favorites back in highschool and it was super exciting to find out about the re-issue and the vinyl/merch and stuff. Grabbed myself a hoodie and somewhat regretting I never grabbed a vinyl. Thanks for this interview! I never heard Zak talk about the band before, and it was super insightful and he seems like he's happy with the legacy the band has left. Hoping for a reunion someday.
