I worked there as a dishwasher when I was a senior in high school back in 1981, back in those days it was the middle of nowhere and there was nothing in the area except a gas station, the Flying J is relatively new.
I could be wrong,… I’m 70 years old. The red brick building you showed was a restroom. And the giant curved framework supported a tent structure that was used as a theater. Both of these buildings were in Fantasy Farm.
Incredible Dave’s CEO went bankrupt for millions of dollars and shut down. It really messed up renovation when they put it because there were a few stores down that way. A pet store, arcade, ruby Tuesday restaurant, and a few more.
Almost everyone I knew there either got addicted to drugs and alcohol, or have been in and out of jail. It's a shame because it used to be a thriving, middle class small town.
Hey man, great video and way to keep it entertaining. I’m a native of Marion, with many, many fond memories of the mall. That was once a booming mall. In the early 2000’s the legacy crossing shopping area was built, which took most of the commerce to the east side of town. That was the Strip mall with Bealls. The holidays were excellent in that mall. Every store was filled and the entire center was full of vendors. Anyway, I’ve been living in Missouri for four years and miss home. Thanks for the video, you made my day!
@@RichardMcDonaldJr your welcome. Glad I could share Marion with you now that you’ve moved. I visited Missouri recently and it’s a beautiful place. Unfortunately it’s not economically good and the city’s are doing poor. Ohios not doing too bad and has seen some growth. I enjoy Ohio.
I cant thank you enough for this. I grew up in Hamilton and my dad worked at Champion paper company and they'd have company days and I remember so much fun at Americana. Now I live in Middletown now and right by the steel mill AK Steel and its hell. The steel dust is incredibly damaging to homes, vehicles and health. I heard they are doing everything electric starting next year because of this huge problem in Middletown. Lol You are extremely charming. We welcome you here anytime. P.s. There is also another old amusement park not too far from there thats still running called Stricters Grove. They have 1 rollercoaster. Its a cool place.
@@suzied4270 thanks for the positive comment and support. Becoming a channel member her on RU-vid will help financially support new content as filming is expensive. Also I have been to stickers grove and made videos on it. I also went over to the new development at champion paper mill and made a video on that called spooky nook sports.
I remember when they enclosed the mall and I went there the first week it opened up I was with a friend and that mall looks so beautiful back then the revamping was great, but I’m noticing with almost all malls are looking this way throughout the whole country but yeah when this small open it was so nice or should I say reopened in fact when it was an outdoor mall that’s where I bought my prom dress laughing out loud but the mall is definitely state of the art for its time.
Nice video! I lived south of there in Carbon Hill back in the mid 80's / early 90's Every once in a while I would see smoke coming from cracks on the hill North of town. My neighbor who was in his 8-'s at the time told me that was results of the New Straightsville mine fire. If you like different caves check out Tinker's cave to the North of Carbon Hill. The story my neighbor told was "Shep Tinker" was a horse thief and the cave made a perfect natural corral hidden from sight.
We were going to go here on our coaster trip a few weeks ago but didn't because Leap the Dips was closed according to the website. I hope the park doesn't close that would be really sad
@@gametime2473 the park isn’t closing itself rather the rides did. I doubt they will ever reopen. It’s what happened recently to Coney Island in Cincinnati.
First at the beginning of the video in the bottom left it says 2022 which is when I visited and filmed the park. The information I’m telling as a voice over is current. So to answer the question, no the rides are not open and I doubt they will ever run again. It’s very sad. I how this clarified things 😊
@@mr.blakester well based that they have been removing rides over the years attendance has been dropping operating costs rising I don’t see them ever reopening. They are taking the park in a different direction and not a good one. It’s sad and someone needs to save leap the dips and relocate it to a thriving park.
@@TiltedTripodMedia The best way to save LTD is to get Andrea Cohen to quit and get someone else in to take over the lease who actually wants the park to succeed and invests in it.
I have a bit more info on this location, prior to it being Mountain View, this was one of the few Holiday Inn Holidome Hotels. There’s lots to research on the fall of this Holiday Inn idea,
My great grandparents rode LTD, my grandparents, my dad, me (I'm 52) my kids, and my daughter's kids! It really is a fun ride. Last time there, no one but us wanted to ride it, we rode it for an hour solid! 😊
Before in was a mall, in the mid 60's, me and my friends used to ride our bikes to Eastland during summer vacation. We would have a hot dog lunch at Kresge's then have ice-cream sandwiches at Sanders then ride the elevators at Hudson's.
Sad to go there now. Feel sorry for all those trying to make a living. The biggest "F" was when someone decided to choke the Mall right in the middle when Sears left, like saying: die, die now! Not the brightest idea, although I think it was intentional, as if telling the other retailers and their customers, "Get out!"
@@TiltedTripodMedia my mom's friend used to work at a store so when she was working on the weekends at night time we would hang out there all night and then when she got off work she'd give us a ride home it was pretty awesome
I actually purchased one of their benches from the hallways they used to have old wooden benches all throughout the mall they replaced them with those leather massage chairs all over the place but they sold all those benches off I have one sitting out in front of my house on the front porch
@@dededubach9273 sorry I don’t live in Ashtabula nor have I ever lived there. However I do know my statistic data through online research. So if there is something you think isn’t accurate you’ll have to take it up with the government agency’s who make all the stats and those who write and post all the research. Sorry. Now because I live in Ohio have visited there a number of times in recent years. So I can say that I experienced a mall and downtown that was dead and the entire town looked poor and rundown. Now I’m sure it wasn’t always that way but that’s the Ashtabula I experienced. If you’d like to show me different I’ll gladly come make a video about it 😊.
@@dededubach9273 obviously a local will know more about the places I visit because I can only gain knowledge of a place through research not real life experience regarding the place I’m visiting. Sorry 🤷🏼♂️
Used to get my son's picture with Santa done at this Bass Pro every year, lol. I remember the old mall, too. I'd LOVE to see an urbex of the remnants, behind the scenes!!
@@TiltedTripodMedia that would be amazing! I was born and raised in Louisville, been living in Southern Indiana for about 25 years. So I went to River Falls, more than once, and I definitely remember it. But I've always wondered what was left of it, and the old Bacon's, after Bass Pro took over.
