Follow our journey of training horses, rescue and rehabilitation for equines.
RH Farm Rescue is a 501 (c)(3) Nonprofit dedicated to the rescue, care and rehabilitation of abused, neglected or slaughter bound horses. We accept surrenders, pull from auction and other avenues of rescue. We work very hard to find them a forever home, and a better future.
We are self-funded at the moment. With your donation we can save more horses from slaughter, rehabilitate neglected ponies and help equines in need find the love they deserve.
That was odd horse behavior about not wanting you to pick up their hooves / legs. Usually, IME, horses like people to hoof pick their hooves, and get out pebbles/stones & crud. Has that draft horse never been hoof picked? A draft horse is almost always used as work horse for pulling a wagon or sled or coach or a plow. They are almost always shod, and at least trimmed. {I used to make some part-time money trimming horse hooves, when I was in my teens to about 45 years old (my back was starting to cry 😪) Shetland ponies were the worst! They are short and I'm 6 feet tall, not a good fit, plus they have a crummy attitude frequently.). Did not shoe horses because I never had a forge. Either tie the horse to a hitching rail or (better) have the owner / rider of the horse hold the lead rope and keep the head of the horse slightly turned toward the person using a hoof pick / hoof knife, Knippers / rasp and or hoof dressing / Pine tar. Talk to the horse,,,, but,,,, do not let the horse become the boss! If the horse will not comply and tries to bite you or kick you, then it needs to be put down on its side and the legs tied together while the farrier/trimmer cleans, trims, medicates / shoes the horse, so you (the hoof care person or the owner) does not get injured. Stay safe RH Farm Rescue & Stables!
She is so lovely and friendly! 🐴💖 What a blessing to have a horse neigh to greet you-I'd love that! 😍 She deserves so much; she is absolute perfection! 🌟🐎✨
Such a beautiful mare! To have spent her whole life starving & alone...😢 wth🤦🏻♀️ It's so unbelievable the cruelty and neglect done by humans...😢 🙄 If you need help caring for a child or animal, reach out and ask for HELP! There's no shame or judgement in it.😊 It's only when you let them starve, then that's criminal and the punishment should be swift & severe! Thank goodness this poor sweet baby has been rescued and is now getting a chance to feel good and enjoy life!😂🎉❤
Try adding dragonfly decoy clip-ons to the halter. You can try and weave the stem through the unused buckle holes or punch in extra holes in a good spots.
The other two horses were best friends. It takes more time??? She has lost some of her socializing skills so she needs to get used to it, maybe a year, after 32 years of solitude
Where is her adlib forage? No wonder she is whinnying desperately as she is hungry, she has been food deprived, starved...and now you leave her without 24 HR quality hay, or if she is old, missing teeth chaff and wet sugar beet and grass pellets soaked in a tub bucket , full, twice a day. So she can forage , eat adlib. Plus 4 quality , high calorie feeds a day. !
When I bought my small horse property I was told by my daughter'sbclassmate that a previous renter had starving horses there. I cop had already told me that that woman and her children had been abandoned by her husband and had walked to the police station to beg for help getting food.! She was starving that winter as well.!n I asked if people were so worried why no-one just went to the door and asked if she needed help.? Or maybe got a bale or two of hay and tossed it over the darn fence.? Or told her how to find the local stables that would even maybe buy the horses or at least rescue them.? Never judge until you know all the facts.! Not everyone means to hurt their animals. Some are just overwhelmed.😢
