I did research on many videos on graduation speech that most students giving speech by looking at the paper but I don't think relying on paper while giving a speech is a good idea. It makes speakers seem less confident and less connected to the audience. I can give long speeches without looking at paper, and it really helps with engaging people and keeping the flow natural.
