Years ago I did a 42 km dirt rally stage at night in fog and rain. This was around a mountain. Every time I went from 2nd to 3rd I had massive opposite lock moments and couldn't see a thing. I put it in 2nd and drove on the rev limiter. I didn't spin once and was 5 mins ahead of the guy behind me. My average speed was 80 kph. It was the most unpleasant drive in my life.
Amazing to see just how capable the car is. You were driving very well and the car looked so hooked up and balanced. Made me want to go for a hard drive!
Wow! Thank you VERY MUCH, Robb. This is what I was hoping to see when I tuned in to Mobil 1's RU-vid channel early on Sunday morning, only to be extremely disappointed when I saw that all they had for live video were a few static camera positions on the course, that captured in particularly boring fashion, cars driving one at a time, into and out of frame, followed by long periods of nothing happening. Your video, on the other hand, was fantastic! Did you use a helmet-mounted, image stabilized GoPro? You are, by the way, crazy. I did not see many guardrails on the way up the mountain, just a lot of clear sky. And another thing, are the organizers out of their minds, allowing hordes of spectators to stand behind flimsy-looking fencing on the outside of turns? If I were there, I would stand on the inside of turns, and up on hills overlooking the track. I know from many years of participating in amateur motorsports, and covering professional auto racing as a member of the press, that errant cars can very quickly go off of the track on the outside and inside of turns. It can be impossible to move out of their way quickly enough. So, Robb, do you know if any other drivers have videos of the event that they would be willing to share with Autoweek, which is where I got this link? Jan Wagner AutoMatters & More (on DriveTribe and elsewhere)
Thanks Jan. Don't be to dissapointed with the coverage. It is incredibly hard to get live coverage streamed off the mountain. But nonetheless I'm glad you enjoyed my footage. Yes helmet mountain GoPro. If you go to Pikes Peak youtube channel they have onboard footage of almost every car. I'm sure they'd all be happy to share with Autoweek
The bad about this video is it shows the all seasons do well enough. "MOST" People are stupid about cars and are not going to understand A LOT of the tracking was due to the AWD system on the Audi.
