Newcomen, Savery, and Smeaton built an engine to supply Atmospheric Power. Watt built an engine to supply Steam Power. In Britain from 1800 to1900. 20,000 Waterwheels decreased in number. Windmills decreased in number. The Englishman Thomas Newcomen's 1,500 Atmospheric Pumps disappeared. The Scotsman James Watt's 500 Steam Engines and their descendants increased in number to 10,000,000 !!! For every SINGLE Waterwheel in 1800 there were now 500 James Watt type Steam Engines and their descendants in 1900 !!! The Power output of the whole country increased by 500 times, and so, Production capacity !!! In one human lifetime. And you don't need a flowing river of water for each one either! This WAS the Industrial Revolution, it was a Power Revolution and it was kicked off by only one single Invention, James Watt's Invention of the world's first PRACTICAL Steam Powered Engine in Scotland. It was nothing to do with efficiency, it was all due to the dumping of Newcomen's Atmospheric Power and Arkwright's Water-Power for Steam Power. Take away James Watt's Steam Power and you don't get an Industrial Revolution.
My dad loved all things steam. His name was William, but he will always be "Steamboat Willie" to me. Dad 👨 Stepped On A Rainbow 🌈 😳 😕 😔 in April, 2024 after succumbing to Vascular Dementia! I was in the Critical Care Unit in Critical Guarded Condition with Severe Hyperglycemia , Metabolic Acidosis, and Diabetic Ketoacidosis. I was near death when My Hero,William Charles Shepherd, affectionately known as The Legendary "Steamboat Willie" by me and all of his true family and many, many friends, came to my hospital bed, and took me home to Heaven, and then sent me back to Earth 🌎 ❤️ on God's Orders! We plowed feldspar, drove tractors and old cars on the ranch, and then we went to the railroad where a Beautiful, Streamlined Steam Locomotive 🚂 and Beautiful Passenger was waiting for Steamboat Willie Shepherd 😀 to blow the whistle and go to his bride and My Sweet Mama Bear, Lois Earline Shepherd, who stepped on a Rainbow 🌈 in February of 2015! Steamboat Willie missed her so much, the lady 2 years of his Earthly Life were so scary 😨 😢 💔 , sad, and confusing for him. This is because he had to be in a Skilled Nursing Facility and He didn't why he was there and why I couldn't bring him home! I would have Boiled the Oceans Bone Dry to heal him and and mommy 👩 Dadfy said that I couldn't get in the Locomotive with jom, because Hod Needed Me To Make Earth Onto Heaven for God's Beloved 🙏 Children @ Daddy told me that he and mommy were happy 😊 and ✨️ that they were going to be watching over me! In the wink of Daddy's Eyes, Daddy blew the whistle, opened up the throttle, and the train was gone in the blink of an eye. When I awoke, I was in the hospital bed drenched in sweat and feeling as hot 🔥 as a Blast Furnace. After 1 werk in the hospital fighting for my life, and 8 weeks in a Rehabilitation Hospital , I am independent again and helping my beautiful cousin, Barbara Amador ❤️ Barbara is such an inspiration ❤️ to me, and we go together like Peanut Butter 🥜 and ✨️ ❤️ Jelly !Life is Great and Getting a little bit 😀 better everyday for me, Praise God 👏 🙌 🙏 😊 ❤️ 😀

This engine was pressed back into work in 2009 when the electric pumps which replaced it broke down on the Kennet & Avon Canal. It worked flawlessly for the entire time the electric pumps were down, burning a ton and a half of coal a day.
Watt's biggest and most important innovation was to dispense with Newcomen's Atmospheric Power, for Steam Power. To achieve this, he had to invent a new engine, the world's first practical Steam Engine, in Scotland.
And I thought the flywheel on the video I watched before this one was BIG. Silly, silly man! To be SO massive these machines are quiet!!....... The craftsmanship on this device is evident....... Cool machine!!!!!!!!!
In ww2, 3 of these ran on sea water. The ballast fuel tanks were installed with the fuel lines in the bottom of the wrong tanks, so they went from the United States to England compressing salt water into steam. Wrecked the engines, but the fact that they made the whole trip without realizing there was no actual fuel oil in the engines shows both the incompetence of the builders and crew, but also to the possibility of water compression as a viable form of propulsion
One has to stop and admire the genius and artistry of the Victorian engineers. This is a magnificent machine for the vital purpose of pumping sewage to improve the sanitary conditions and health of London's populace.
Beautiful engineering ! Lightweight yet powerful, this was the F1 engine of it's day. Parsons launched his Turbinia in 1894, setting the stage for another generation of -naval- marine propulsion. Many years ago I saw a model of a similar engine in a Scottish museum, Edinburgh ?
You can't stare at a moment petrol diesel or electric car engines at least steam stationary locomotives ships reciprocating engines a lot more going on watch external rods moving more exciting then internal combustion engines
