just a little corner of the internet where ya gal Milla talks about games and her experiences with them, mainly JRPGs, visual novels, Nintendo games, indies and other similar stuff. Thanks for checking out my channel! :)
Cupid parasite is definitely one of those rare otome games were I enjoyed all the LIs in some way. Even if I admit Ryuki was my least favorite. Allan was my personal favorite even if when I first played I thought Shelby was the one I anticipated the most because of his design and Va KENN. Cupipara's 50's artstyle and music choices are a really captivating style of colors and style that really add a unique captivating touch. I like how the group they chose gave this diner vibe and to the backgrounds everything was colorful. Cupid paradise also got me into Makoto Furukawa's voice acting. Since it was his role as Allan that really established he is a VA with serious range. From his role in Cupipara, Yoritomo in Burishana, and Kazuma in Lover pretend. He has voiced in a lot of modern otome games. The fact that he can go from serious to a genki love struck dork like Kazuma amazes me and his voice as Allan making me blush. I am big into voice acting. I know some people skip the voice acting but I enjoy it. Also, I want to say I am glad to see someone who enjoys Gill since often I hear a lot of people bash him without playing his route and out right skip it because of their experience with him in the common route. Well, I know the fact that the guys have issues can be something some people don't like. There was a criticism with that and Variable Barricade. Which was a fun game as well even if I have some problems with Variable Barricade. I am a long time otome game player. My first was Princess Debut and the flash dating Sims and early voltage games when they were separate apps and shall we date games. I think Cupid parasite doing so well definitely helped with the market for otome . Since it was after this we got more LEs. It is nice to see more and more options for otome games be released. Especially, games that are allowed to be romantic comedies to be localized in the west. I have not yet finished Sweet and Spicy darling only having done Ryuki first since he was my least favorite so I wanted to get him done and then go onto the rest. I am on Gill currently. I have so much on my backlog and to play through like My Life as Villianess game amongst many others I need to get through. I keep adding more to my backlog which doesn't help XD.
Glad you're enjoying the series! Defo agree regarding otome VAs, they're so talented and really help aid immersion. Thanks for watching and for your detailed comment! :)
I usually only read or play the "good" endings in Otome games, but if I'm in the right mindset, I try the occasional tragic one. I loved Café Enchantè, especially its found family aspects, and I think this looks more polished and deep? I love rich world building and relationship development, with or without romance. And good side characters are the spice of life!
There is also a Valkyria Chronicles 2 translation. And I really recommend Kurohyou 1 and modtly 2. It's an Yakuza spin-off. Great syory, charachters and voice acting... and gameplay, like a evolution of Def Jam.
I need to revisit it at some point. I did Shelby and Allan's route and I've been stuck in Gil's probably since the game released. I just don't like him. That being said : Lynette is best girl and deserves the world.
Yeah I can see why you don't like Gill. I'd recommend skipping through his route so you can play the remaining routes, they're so worth it 😄 thanks for watching!
Thanks Milla! This and DQ3 are my most anticipated games of the year. No idea when I'll be able to play Visions, but I've been a fan of the series since I played FFAdventure on the OG GameBoy. SoM is definitely a classic, but I'm not sure I'd call it one of the best of all time. It suffered some major content cuts and the systems are a bit clunky, especially casting spells. Being a multiplayer action-RPG in 1993 is what made it so standout to me, aside from the generally great art and music Square was consistently putting out. My favorite Mana game is actually Legend; it took a while for the storytelling style to click with me, but once it did I was utterly smitten!
Thanks for watching everyone and thanks to Square Enix for sending me a review code! I experimented a little with this retrospective by trying a semi scripted approach. Lemme know your thoughts on this in the comments below! :) Also, if you liked this video, here are a few others you might enjoy! I remember also being nervous about the cop stuff at the start of this arc. Most of my fears were laid to rest when one of the pretty early scenes in the game literally says, "Of course the bracers are more popular. Our job isn't to help people, it's the enforcement of state law and order."
this is a really great, well-presented video! it’s surprisingly uncommon to hear people discuss these kinds of issues in relation to games and fandom consumerism in general but it’s so important to have these discussions. thank you for advocating for this, it definitely gave me some things to think about!
CupiPara is also one of my alltime favourite otome games, it's just so much fun and I love the bright colours and comedy. To this day my boyfriend refers to it as the "beep beep" game cuz of the car beep sound effect when you remove the textbox XD Hope your video inspires more people to play this wonderful game 💖
As someone who is obsessed with hakuoki, you definitely got me interested in playing this otome. I love hakuoki, since I love historical influences in romance meeting a hint of fantasy. However, Hakuoki is very very dark at times and sad. I want to try something more lighthearted that has the same amount of character development. Also, I’m praying for the day that the fan disks for hakuoki are localized. I played the original hakuoki game at 11 years old and I’m 22 now, so i’ve had a love of otome for a while.
Agreed! Now Eastasiasoft has rereleased Hakuoki on Switch on Idea Factory's behalf, there's a chance they'll be able to license some of the fandiscs too. I hope they can localise some of them as well as a few other legacy titles IFI/Aksys seem uninterested or unable to license. Also in case you don't know, Hakuoki SSL on Vita also has an unofficial full English patch. That game may also be what you're looking for. Thanks for watching ^_^

"It felt like a misstep to any otome fans to try catering to an audience that largely wouldn't play otome games to begin with", well this is just how companies work nowadays, everything needs to be altered to fit a wider audience, well at least this is the excuse used to censor many games as well as altering designs and changing difficulty of games. It's kinda funny see that not only games made for a more hardcore male audience are suffering from this
The art style is gorgeous, even if this isn't my cup of tea. I've gotta say though, Allan is totally the NTR love interest and the guy they tell you not to worry about 🤣 Awesome video, Milla~
I don't know I started it it looks absolutely gorgeous but after the first hour I put it down it really did not grab me. I would only keep on going for the graphic candy. I am not an otome person I guess or at least these are not the boys I would ever date let's be honest ;) But the plot is like really slim.. if the otome is hokuoki or collar x malice that is fine for me but this one... all right I trust ur judgement and I will try again once I am done with Emio! Who knows I may end up loving it and even buy the fan disk.
If you do go back to it, I suggest trying to get to the end of the common route (Parasite House) as that gives you a pretty accurate vibe for how the rest of the game will be. If you still don't vibe with it, that's okay (there's plenty of other VNs out there) Thanks for watching ^_^
Aquaplus is kind of like vanillaware with pc but for the switch: they just don't want to. There must be someone higher up fighting tooth and nail to prevent their games ever releasing on nintendo because other than that, i don't see why you would go out of your way to ignore such a popular platform in japan. It's not like utewarerumono games are impossible to port on switch. I can understand monochrome mobius but not the utewarerumono games. It's so dumb of them to do that. 7 years of popularity and they still don't support the hardware properly. Even falcom shifted towards switch centric development
Yep, its quite possible! Unlike Vanillaware, there is no public evidence to suggest somebody high up at Aquaplus is blocking Switch ports, so we cant say for sure. Regardless, I have a feeling this will finally change with the ToHeart remake. That game simply wont survive as a PlayStation / PC exclusive like the White Album remake. The market has changed too much since then and To Heart is a cultural phenonemon in Japan in a way no other Aquaplus game is. Thanks for watching :)
I like your positive energy please spread love and enjoy your hobbies don’t let anyone bully for liking your hobbies have a great day god love you and I support you have wonderful day bye
Finally got around to watching this! I highly recommend a dock if you haven't gotten one already because that's helped me a lot with emulation as well as modding. Steam Deck the perfect place for JRPGs and emulation. Though I do gotta say, some retro arch texture replacements don't usually work the best.
