I am curious to know what the background noise is it sounds like an old teletype machine

I was using a small camera inside a waterproof housing, since there was a lot of spray in the air. I believe it was either the camera's autofocus or stabilization that was making the obnoxious noise.

I was thinking about Saltwater and then remembered this is freshwater. Near a salty sea those trees would be way back.

Thanks for posting this. This is absolutely incredible footage. Is this around Tettegouche State Park? I recognize Split Rock at about the 3:40 mark. I am a former resident of Minnesota and always loved traveling to the North Shore, but never got to witness this kind of weather first-hand.

You could walk on it, but not safely.

What is going on underneath the ice? From watching this I have the impression that the water is continuously moving towards the shore under the ice. But typically the water laps at the shores of any of the Great Lakes. So in what way is the water flowing under the ice?
@RadiantSpiritGallery
@RadiantSpiritGallery Год назад
The wind is pushing the ice across the surface of the water. At the back end of the ice floe, there would be open water, which could assist in pushing the ice from behind once the waves started rolling.

They intended to go from the harbor, under the Aerial Lift Bridge, and out to Lake Superior, but didn't make the turn. I never heard what caused this costly mistake/malfunction.

I grew up in Esko, right next to Duluth by about 10 miles and this was always something amazing to see. Well worth the watch if you can catch it at the right time!

You can see why/how erosion is a "thing" over millions of years. Or even less really. Thousands or even decades can do crazy stuff.

@@RadiantSpiritGallery That's good, but imitators may not be as cautious. I live along Lake Michigan and while the 10 foot ice shelf by our house is tempting I just admire from a distance.

Having spent 8 years fishing from a 21 foot boat on Lake Superior's north shore I have seen massive tree trunks thrown over a hundred feet up from the normal water line. Just thinking of the awesome power required to do this sent chills down my spine. This video gives me chills all over again.
