The strong storm of October 10, 2018 wreaked havoc along the North Shore of Lake Superior. The waves were incredible, fierce, and unrelenting. We witnessed 20+ foot waves, sustained winds of up to 45 mph, and a wind gust of 86 mph was recorded near our shooting locations. (Hurricane force winds start at 74 mph.) The abundant spray from the massive waves and strong winds reached far and wide. We have many more stills and video to share with you from our adventure along the North Shore, so stay tuned!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary this day -- there probably aren't many couples who would treasure the experience of lugging camera gear through wind-driven rain and drizzle all day and getting blasted with strong wind gusts and wave spray. But for us, as two free-range nature photographers, it was our best anniversary yet!!!
Thank you for appreciating Lake Superior's incredible weather with us. We welcome your comments. We invite you to visit and SUBSCRIBE to our channel, and follow our work on social media and our website. We have many more inspirations from Nature to share with you!

I've lived up at Cape Cod and I've spent a lot of time around all of the Great Lakes except Lake Ontario. I like the Great Lakes the best. For what it's worth ....

Having spent 8 years fishing from a 21 foot boat on Lake Superior's north shore I have seen massive tree trunks thrown over a hundred feet up from the normal water line. Just thinking of the awesome power required to do this sent chills down my spine. This video gives me chills all over again.

Thanks for posting this. This is absolutely incredible footage. Is this around Tettegouche State Park? I recognize Split Rock at about the 3:40 mark. I am a former resident of Minnesota and always loved traveling to the North Shore, but never got to witness this kind of weather first-hand.

Lovely! I can't thank you enough for the natural sounds of those waves. You don't get the whole effect if during editing music is added. Really enjoyable to watch! ThanX

Man, that looks like actual waves 🌊 you’d find in the ocean. Definitely have to respect that body of water! ✊

Being as they are closer in frequency than the ocean they are actually far more dangerous.

I was thinking about Saltwater and then remembered this is freshwater. Near a salty sea those trees would be way back.

Excellent video! I spend a lot of time on/around Superior and seeing waves like this really shows her nasty side! Thanks for posting this.

So far as I could tell, those were mostly full grown pine trees atop that cliff and beyond? Now take into consideration the actual size of those waves as compared to a person or average sized boat? My word! Now consider even bigger monsters coming at you from various angles and that's what the Edmund Fitzgerald had to deal with. No thanks!

Ontario Parks Service: Those tree need watering. Lake Superior: OK.

You can see why/how erosion is a "thing" over millions of years. Or even less really. Thousands or even decades can do crazy stuff.
