@@dan_ridge. Well that would completely explain what I was seeing... Initially I was thinking something in the suspension had failed but I was seeing more side to side movement sort of like a flat rear. Hopefully there wasn't any damage...and it's good to know it wasn't all in my head. ...on one of your other videos I noticed a couple things that would help improve your cornering speed but after reading my comment it made me sound like a "know it all" so I deleted it...lol. Enjoying your videos, thanks for posting.
As a big-bore owner and rider there's nothing more frustrating than not being able to use the power on tap because of super slick conditions...this course would have been so much without the rain... good job keeping the shiny side up!
I live within "earshot" of Farleigh - I can always tell when there's a race meet and can usually tell the state of the track and how spread out the riders are just by listening
A bit too adventurous on the attempted pass especially considering how much the deficit had been reduced from the @9.03 (last lap flag)"Ok" statement of intent. However, hindsight is always 20/20. No bar pad?!!
@@dan_ridge I was coming to watch Sunday but it was absolutely hammering down at home in the morning. Gutted I missed it but it seems like everyone had a good weekend and the track took the rain well.
Enjoyed that, thanks. The track used to run the other way and you rode through the river after the start. It also had some much longer, up hill straights right up to the tree line. You ciuld really get tapped out on these. Close on thirty years ago, though.
I was chatting with a guy there about how it would be cool use some of that terrain. At the time it was very hot and miss weather wise so maybe the track team erred on the side of caution. Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best.
I've eaten freshly poured Captain Crunch with cold milk and it wasn't that crispy going down the pipe as Your 83 twin shock conversion is on the pipe!! 👍
@@dan_ridge back in ‘83 I raced in the Open Expert class and remember a bunch of guys who where not happy about breaking the shock on their ‘83 but don’t remember a conversion to return the bike to the much better ‘81 twin shock. Is this a modern adaptation or is it one that was the “in-the-know” fix back in ‘83?
I thought the 83 490 was the single shock alpha one, sure it was in UK. Steve Dixon now team yamaha manager was my best buddy growing up, he loved maico s back then, he ported and tuned that beast to the max, it was so fast and sounded so crisp. He d wheely it with me on the back, I d be literally hanging on for dear life. People at amca meetings uk would watch Steve completely split his engine and get it back together for his next race, what a mechanic he was. So glad I had ten years competive amca racing was the best days of my life, even now in my mid fifties I still sometimes dream I'm racing what a sport ❤
That paints a wonderful picture ✨ The 1983 was a monoshock but many were converted to Twinshock for the current thriving Twinshock racing scene. Send Steve round to mine with his toolbox 🤩 All the best 👍👍
I had a go on one that was single shock but the swing arm had the eye holes for twin shock WP front and I can't remember if it only had 4 gears it had so much compression it was difficult to kick even with the decompression lever had to lean it on something because I couldn't touch the floor for a 9 half stone 15 year old it was terrifying but memorable sprocket size of a dinner plate
The bike came with the Keihin copy carb on it and genuine jets/slide/needle. It's out of stock at Racebase now but plenty available on ebay for not much money! www.racebase.co.uk/product/copy-keihin-carburettor-pwk-38mm-s66-air-striker-supplied-with-genuine-keihin-jets-slide-and-needle/173 Just make sure you use genuine jets/needles. Somewhere like TM Racing sell genuine Keihin jets tmukonline.com/product/keihin-main-jets 👍
It's hard for the pit crew to know how to empathise when their rider is still fresh from dissapointment. Most times a cup of tea and a kiss will restore some perspective. We all know you would've beat that H***a!
Main jet blocked, I was convinced was electrical at the time, but took carb off and main jet was blocked and pilot had a tiny bit in it too :/ These have that sprung bar thing to hold the filter in place and although cleaned and well oiled, I think it had slipped down exposing te carb to the dust!
