New Videos on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays (If announced), @ 9pm AEST just some random high schooler on the interwebs making public transport videos subscribe and like if you want i guess
Same I really like having traffic lights with crossing lights together; there's a few other crossings with traffic lights on them such as Puckle St, Moonee Ponds; Moorooduc Hwy, Frankston; and Somerville Rd, Brooklyn (which heads into some sidings). There were also some other crossings with them before they were removed, such as Melton Highway, Sydenham, and Furlong Rd, St. Albans.
The thing is, Upfield isn’t actually a suburb, it was originally just an abbreviation of Upper Campbellfield, which isn’t a suburb either. Technically, Upfield station is located in Campbellfield, but the crossing is on the border of Dallas/Campbellfield/Coolaroo.
i went to this crossing, but never got any footage. i also went over murray rd in prestion but still no footage:/ hybrids were nice in my opinion i perfer westinghouse hybrids over ebells
I’m pretty sure the actual gate is upside down, you can tell by the directions of the stripes. Weird thing is that they kept it reversed when they replaced the gate mechanism 🤔
@@pengo34789i never realised it was flipped upside-down. that cool. i did notice that the crossing has a similar design to the crossing in ivanhoe(marshal street)
Yeah, I get what you mean, with all the lights and bells on one pole, with the gate mechanism on a seperate pole; seems like the bases are also the same (I think?)
sad to see the hybrid bells go😢 those were(i think)the last exact pair in melbourne. they sounded really good on the crossing. they couldve at least replaced the bells with new hybrid bells
The problem is that when they replaced the hybrid bells, they couldn’t have gotten new bells as Westinghouse Hybrid Bells stopped production in the 2000’s, so the only option was GS E-Bells
@@pengo34789i never knew they stopped making hybrid bells. alot of crossings in melbourne had safetran and westinghouse mechanical bells. but alot had hybrids and teardrops on the other side of the city(werribee lines, upfield lines, cragieburn lines, etc)
Yeah, technically some Mechanical Bells are still made, e.g. WCH 0333/0666 M-Bells; but I reckon that MTM and V/Line use E-Bells because they are reliable. Also I think there is some rule that forbids the install of M-Bells on the Metro network (?); which is why Barker Technics E-Bells were used in the first place in the 90s. I think the rule was in place because of noise pollution or something
Probably, like I don't think people living next to a crossing would like to hear metal clanging all day and night (Although if I could listen to it I would :D) I think the only crossing that needs the volume of mechanical bells is Macaulay Rd, North Melbourne, as it's located underneath Citylink, so the warning noises really have to stand out from the environment (And I'm glad that they're still there); but other than that most crossings don't need that much volume. Also while going up to Seymour last week, it turns out there's a lot of Westinghouse Hybrids along the Seymour Line, so I may eventually film them, but they aren't as high of a priority as LXRP listed crossings (What I'm filming at the moment)
great vid! i saw one time this had barker technic ebells sad ti see em go😢 i noticed how the western side on the front had led's and the back had incandesents
Those LEDs were I’m guessing a replacement for failed incandescents, as all the rest of the lights are still original from when boom gates were added in the 90s(?)
The Outro is Siemens Nexas, it doesn’t serve the Upfield , Craigieburn , Sunbury , Werribee , Williamstown , Frankston Lines anymore. Only the Sandringham Line it serves for the Siemens Nexas.
Yep, I took this photo in April in Royal Park (Upfield Line), before the rostering change, so now it’ll be uncommon for Siemens sets to be on the Northern Group. Only thing is that I’m pretty sure there’s still going to be a few Siemens sets on the Cross-City group, as the number of Siemens sets in service outnumbers how many are actually needed for the Sandringham Line.
Officer South Rd is closed and removed as of now (All equipment is removed, and level crossing is blocked off by fences and access gates) Station St/Kenilworth Ave level crossing is still there, the LXRA is still working on the overpass, but nowhere near done as of now. Progress on the overpass looks pretty good, I think they got the overpass section above the rail corridor put in while buses were replacing trains last week or so (Btw Station St/Kenilworth Ave is in Beaconsfield, Brunt Rd is the one located in Officer, which has also got equipment removed and closed off)
@@pengo34789if you check on stuart hunt's video of this crossing(stuart hunt is a train guy too)or if you search "Pinguin boom gate" you'll hear the type 1's
@@pengo34789if you go onto stuart hunt's video(a train dude)you'll hear the type 1 combo with a type 2 and if you search pinguin boom gate, you'll actually hear two type 1's(the crossing had two type ones 14 years ago)
Wow, those Type 1's sounded pretty nice, sad that they were replaced because now Macaulay Rd, Kensington is the only crossing with Type 1's that I'm aware of
man, i was gonna go here but then i realised that it was too late because i went to progress st in dandenong south and there were no trains and i remembered that there were removals at pakenham😂
Oof, that sucks :( Same thing happened to me, I was planning to visit Melba Ave in Lilydale, but turns out it got closed off so I didn’t get to film it Only footage of it that I have is a phone recording which I put up on my other channel because it’s not really great
i really like how the lights are really red on the southern side, but one thing i really dislike about this grade separation crossing is the electronic e-bells
Yep those LED lights get pretty bright I agree with you in that E-Bells are pretty boring, they just get really generic sounding especially when like 90% of crossings have them
Actually I'm pretty sure the crossing equipment would've been removed just 2 days ago on Monday, as trains are being replaced by buses until Pakenham opens. It'll be cool to see the N Classes on the new Skyrail, but yeah it will be sad once N Classes stop running revenue services
Yeah, that’s possible, I just have to find some time, as I’m planning to finish filming all the crossings listed on the LXRP first (before they’re gone), and then I should be able to make my way down to Stony Point. Only really limiting factors are that: 1: I’m only able to access crossings via PT (most of the time) 2: Stony Point Line has abysmal frequencies Although with lots of spare time that shouldn’t be a problem Thanks for the recommendation :)
Great video! The hybrid still sounds very good. I haven't been able to film this one because there's always so much traffic. I'm glad somebody got good footage before it was removed
Thanks! I was planning to go take a bit more footage, but I didn’t realise it was too late because there’s Coach replacements for the Gippsland line, but these clips will do I guess. Although thinking about it now, Metro probably still uses the crossing for stabling trains at East Pakenham during the off-peak periods Also I definitely agree with you in that the road is really busy, the times I was there the traffic would be going by nonstop for a good 5-10 minutes or so 😅
First activation would be that it was tripped too early, and then the "fail" is called a "crossing time-out malfunction" Happens all the time, nothing super notable. If the VLocity hadnt stopped down the line, the first activation would have been when the train passed. Obviously congestion at Pakenham Station
Yeah, I was suprised as it was the first time I had seen them before, so I would say they’re pretty rare. I was honestly just expecting the crossing to have the usual Westinghouse crossarms, lights, etc
