I loved your video!! I just finished the show and I initially didn’t take it too seriously but I really liked your analysis. I still do hope nan ends up with guy in the second season as it makes more sense for the story and the value it puts in freedom and agency, but I’d love to hear more insight about that too!

One thing I noticed was if you pay close attention to the timeline, you can see why Gladys is so hellbent on making her daughter the pageant winner. All the girls are 17, and Gladys herself competed and won the Mount Rose title *17 years ago*. But she never went any further - she never went to state. The reason why is that she was knocked up and had to drop out. She got married and had Becky, and all these years she's been thinking about how she was robbed of her victory. So now Becky's going to be her chance for a vicarious redo, and THIS time she's going to go all the way to the Nationals.
so this could be wrong but im pretty sure it was from this video and i think it's either the song marshmallow or beats daily? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-La9IzR_m6rs.html
Great video essay! After watching this, I appreciated the storyline of the show more. Personally, I didn’t like Cole. I agree with your opinion, love triangles are supposed to make us wonder who the main character will choose.
At the last actual pageant in the movie.... when they are showing each town..... oh my god Whoever made this KNEW minnesota..... When it drops on "moose lake" Holy shit....
The 2000s was The Wild West of fashion. It was a mixture of the past and future. I’m a 90s kid but damn being a teenager in the 2000s was a hella good time. My style was a mixture of Raven and Miranda.
that's understandable😭 😭. dang that's going to drive me crazy that i messed that up/didn't catch in editing. might delete and reupload for that. thanks for telling me.
the pilot really did a good job at hooking you in, and the season really delivered on the promise of how good it is. And i think the other season had to exceed this start and they also managed to do so (i stopped watching after s3 for the obvious reason you would think lmao, so idk if it’s still good after that, but it went on for 6 season so i assume yes)
Brenda Song didn't get her career thanks to "color blind casting." She NEVER played a character she didn't racially belong in. Every single character she's played is either written as an Asain or written as racially ambiguous. Cinderella 1997 was cast racially blind and that movie was an absolute joke because it made ZERO visual sense. We all definitely praised the attempt but laughed at the result. Racially blind casting is just bad casting. Brenda Song EARNED every role she was granted and looked like the character she was portraying.
I love that someone did a video on this. When I saw 2000s fashion coming back, one of my first thoughts were the fashions we saw in a lot of Disney shows. Your 3 picks were very well balanced in the span of the decades covering the progressions and unique differences between each looks. Awesome video essay.
Aquamarine is one of my favorite movies from my childhood! And one of the things i loved about it besides having a mermaid is the portrait of love through friendship, i always tear up at the scene with the three of them in the sea when the girls tell aqua that they love her
Yes, finally! There aren't a lot of ballet film analysis videos even though there's so much to discuss about the genre! This was a great commentary on these films.
Maddy: “I’m so poor” meanwhile never repeating a single ten layer outfit, cute shoes, and accessories in all seasons of the show lol I think she means California poor where really you’re still pretty rich just everyone around you is so rich that you feel poor 😂
I used to be obsessed with the movie. The books were always already checked out so I only ever read one of them. The movie is a lil iconic. Middle school is definitely unnecessarily rough. I always hoped for a clique 2
