What other metals are present on these compressors that can be scrapped outside of copper? Is the outer shell steel?

I use big Wire Cutters, and Tin Snips to cut the pipes, and if needed I will crimp the pipes even though the moment it leaks jump scares me, and sometimes I use a handsaw/hacksaw with a metal cutting blade and wire strippers, tweezers and sometimes nail clippers if I have a circuit board as I take of the components, I don’t really have access to power tools but it works, scrapping individual circuit board components works as well, as each contain different metals, solder can theoretically be reused if you melt it down into a wire again
@lone_wolf178
@lone_wolf178 3 месяца назад
Crimping the pipes, if done correctly will seal the gas in the pipes but also allows you to make it easier to separate, though I so far out of ac compressors (2 window ac units 1 having r-22/Freon and the other having r-148A or something, and 1 Dehumidifier/AC unit as well which was also r-148A (I forget the exact number as I tossed them and someone else took them, but the r-22 compressor I can’t find that model anywhere nor the ac unit model as the model number is practically non existent) but I always got lucky and all but 1 had leaked on me, and it was the Dehumidifier)

Yea I have question , I have been cleaning up a yard and building and found a bunch of ac units tore down and the scrap yard told me I need to be certified to do so, even tho I didn’t tear them down can I still be able to scrap them?

I didnt use to mess with anything other than the coils out of the ac and any copper i got from linesets but now with the economy and only one income im going to start getting everybit i can, I have great battery tools that i charge batteries on jobsites and company pays for blades so no cost in doing so other than my time which when i have free time to scrap its pretty relaxing to hang around outside listening to music or podcast and make some extra money

I am a sterling silver flatware collector. I rarely find pieces for less than the value of the silver. Every piece that gets melted down increases the value of my collection since the demand will soon exceed the supply of silver flatware. They are not making it anymore. Scrappers would be far more wise to buy and hold rather than melting.
@d.vaders1178
@d.vaders1178 Месяц назад
@@Marc.Martain I respectfully disagree. Waste some time on eBay looking at single sticks of flatware. You pay way more for one replacement stick vs. the cost per stick when buying a whole set. And…if my service for 12 is missing one silly fork, I’d pay whatever it took to replace it because I can’t expect someone to use a spoon to eat a steak.

I just acquired a Manchester sterling set, really decorative set with a naked woman and a cupid on it. I think there is around 3 to four Pounds of 925 I think I am going to scrap it because i do not have time to post it online for sale. What should I do, should I wait or should I scrapnit?

Our local scrap yard quit taking copper wire that has had the insulation burned off. They started that policy years ago when the tweakers would go into a house under construction, steal the wire and burn off the insulation. Funny but not funny; a wire thief tried stealing the copper ground wire off some local powerline poles and in the process got electrocuted & burned, then he tried suing the power company to no avail.

For the smaller ones i just use my angle grinder, cut a slit on one side of each end, then take my snips and peel the ends off, add it to my clean copper bucket or sometimes my motor windings bucket just depends which bucket is within throwing distance lol i very rarely take dirty brass/copper in. Always worth it in my mind to clean brass and copper. Never thought to test and resell though thats a good idea. Probly screwed myself out of hundreds maybe thousands of dollars at this point scrapping good fittings, fuses etc. Oh well. Its all extra money i suppose. Will attempt reselling in the future

I didn't realize scrap yards wouldn't take railroad spikes. I had dug some up, when I was pulling some old steel fence posts nearby to a railroad track. Why isn't the railroad responsible for cleaning up their mess when they replace spikes, & other similar items? They just leave them lying around, which could easily damage a mower blade.

The alternator part you chuck in the motor part i do the same until now. I seen people cut the shaft and through 1 half but i just hit the shaft out with little effort. Remove the snap ring and hit the shaft out then tap the 2 halves apart. To easy. I cant believe you could seperate it even with a press😢

If you melt your scrap Sterling silver into an ingot or "coin", then that ingot needs to be assayed to determine its silver value. If you stamp it as "Sterling", you better have a bullet proof assay to back it us or you'd be facing time in the Big House. Why not leave it as a spoon or a fork that displays "Sterling" on it? Everyone accepts its value; no expensive assay is necessary. During World War II people would barter their sterling spoons and forks for food. It was universally accepted as a barter item (although they had to hide it from the invading military forces that were stealing everything of value at the time).

How about silver (?) plated flat wear that is non magnetic and a lot you can not read the manufactuers name but none has a sterling word or a 925 symbol on it? How can I tell if it is actually silver and how would I get the silver off?

most definitely worth it, when you get good at it you can do 4 of these an hour, 1 circular blade (get thin cheap ones) is about the cost of 1lb of cu. 4 units will produce (approx-depending on the price) $25 in cu, + you get your steel shred. the nice thing about these is how easy the cu comes out.

That's more or less the way I've been doing it but I was taught to always push the knife away from you I will try pulling it towards me today. I'm waiting 15 more days for my social security check to come and I noticed I have a lot of extension cords I do not use show on stripping them down to get some money from the scrapper I know I won't get much but at least I can get two tacos at Jack In The Box for a dollar 75 I'm sure I won't be enough to pay for gas to get there and back but I think I have enough in the tank to make it there and back every month I'm starving the last 3 weeks of the month Social Security's not near enough for food and a roof over my head

What makes aluminum windings not worth scraping
@DoctorWEBB
@DoctorWEBB Год назад
Lack of copper! Aluminium windings aren't worth copper winding prices. They are also much lighter in weight than higher valued heavier copper extracted. Less weight + less value per kg = much less money potentially earned , for the same amount of work to get it. Aluminium windings are the opposite to winning.
