Can pot metal be shiny like a stainless steel look. I have a pair of all metal earrings and it has some sporadic dark shadows similar to oxidation on the front and doesn't stick to a magnet. They are from the 80s?
I've bought a replacement set of headlight buckets , and they don' t have pre-drilled holes to fasten to hood as needed. Salesman said they are made of white metal (grainy cast appearance) also the hole that receives the wire harness grommet needs to be larger. my question is this metal strong enough to drill (drill press) ? Is a step bit a good choice to increase hole for wire harness? Keep up the GOOD WORK.
You should be able to drill it with no problem, make sure the bucket if supported properly. Most of the time with white metal damage is caused by sudden impact such as a drop. Trying to add pressure to the bucket while drilling can also cause damage if the bucket is not on a firm surface. Thank you for watching.
The quality of pot metal varies immensely. Some alloys can be nearly as strong as mild steel, while others are much more fragile. The mechanical properties all depend upon a specific ratio of metals that are combined within the zinc. Trace amount of contaminants (especially lead) will destabilize and ruin the molecular structure.

Not everything is baddd from china man....my Kreigar is ok stainless and this Maxam thing isn't half bad either...the baddd stuff Varnishes not exactly corrodes a little worse to bad etc.
Cast and Die cast have zero difference, other than pressure. Die cast is aluminum cast under pressure (and no oxygen). Thats it. Thats the only difference.
The significant difference between the two is the material for casting the products. Cast process uses a pure material, while die casting allows the use of a mixed metal, due to the pressure.
