I totally agree with you, it's good to upgrade wire. Two points that are just (not disagreement to do it but just a side note about this topic)... One is that 350 watts to 400 watts is 0.5dB or about 1/12 of an S unit. Looks good on a meter but makes virtually no difference in actual signal. The second thing is that lower voltage to the transistors actually has one advantage not disadvantage in that lower voltage allows the transistors to withstand higher SWR's. This can be useful when mobile. Even if you have a 1:1 match on the antenna, you might roll by an 18 wheeler and have a temporary high reflect to push the otherwise SWR from 1:1 to let's say 2 or even 2.5:1, or free banding say from the mid 26MHz and then roll up to 28.5MHz 10 meter band at 2:1 you can still talk. I wouldn't do that if the voltage was 15V+ at the amp.
When you said that v2 is delayed, first thing that came to my mind was the "Second-system effect" - look it up on Wikipedia. And if you are an engineer, or in any way involved in requirements engineering, read the book which coined that term.
Nope! The DWM V1 and V2 can read up to 2x the slug’s rated power. Plus because you can calibrate for a specific element, that means you can take an element for a completely different frequency range, calibrate for it, and it will be dead on. Good question btw!
This an edit , i love this meter . That sd card thing . Would be nice if it recorded power levels , making ll things verifiable. Time will give us a nice finish product. And big thank you bbi. Keep doin whacha do. ❤
I like thee new digital meter , but the menu just blows it for me. Its to much crap to get a simple watt reading. I mostly like the new battery . Stickin to analog for now. Maybe around version 5 or 6 this will become a fully automated list of functions. And its time for a new housing . I would love to see one of your custom builds with 3 or 4 of those in a diamond plate housing.
That's real cool and all but I'll stick with the LP100A. The main reason i chose it was so i don't have to deal with the added cost of buying and keeping slugs on hand. Reality is I'll probably never fool with a bird meter as long as the LP100A i have its in good working order.
@@alexfaught8717 yeah I'm aware of it I'm also aware that it's not available anymore the last time I looked. I think it had some issues I'm not too sure I haven't spent a lot of time looking at it so I can't say definitively
I really really hope he is able to survive the BBI effect. I will want a couple of them for sure if he keeps it around the 250-300 price I have seen floating around. I will need to buy line sections and 3d print cases as I don't have spares of those but otherwise yeah. And yeah typical broadcast engineer. We kinda obsess about things.
Not only does it do reverse, it can do returnloss if you flip the element around (you’ll find info on the mode in the DWM guide in section 10 to get an idea)
Can you test on CW with CW dits at say 20 to 50 wpm and see if it follows the peak. If you can also check if you can use a "pecker" cw to peak tune a amp rather than carrier tune it. Its one of the failures of a lot of digital meters, they are not fast enough to follow CW dits or a pecker for peak tuning.
🤩 glad to hear y'all like it. To let you know real honey will crystallize as well. It has to do with the dextrose/sucrose and moisture. All my fall harvests have crystallized. Just place into a hot tap water bath for a few hours and turn back into a liquid. I know a few have asked for honey, legally I can't sell out of state and I run out fast. I'm slowly growing every year.
anyother young guys out there getting into CB and RF in general, I'm 21 been into CB for 2 years now and iv definitely learned so much along the way from experience and people like BBI, a Just wondering if my generation is keeping this hobby alive. 422 in the great state of Florida, 73s
What you think of mosfets amps?? I just picked up a two mos in April had improper delay installed chattered like a squirrel day one the maker fixed that but it didn't want to work with my 2 mostly gal99v2 then when the solar storm ( 1st one} hit we also had static storm same night got up next day it was only sitting 50 watt Being hi drive 250 and was to take 30to 40 drive made for my galaxy 99v2 which does pep 45 sent my amp back again he replaced finals cost money labor free ???55$ bill for finals Then sent the 99v2 to older tech ( shop since 1975) fine toootheR the radio and now pep 50 watt silent receive and fine coarse work together Weird thing on amp my ant pulls 1.0+ swr and on low poweR or medium power 1.0 swr high power 2.2 swr ?????? Never noticed for Ed that when 1st got it but noticed after blown final"s"
This is a great example of what others should do for comparison. Thank you for being thorough and honest about these it helps with making the best decision on which one to run.
Now I understand why some bypass the internal fuses of those Iatalian made amps with heavy guage wires and place the fuses somewhere outside along the dc input cables. Thanks for the info and I will apply this mod to my amp. All the best.....
Hello Fellow Amphaulics And Supporters Of The World Renowned BBI AMPS: Luke thank you for this prime example of the simple power wire upgrade. This TS box exhibits the usual TS high input tune. After the master performs his magic this device will be better than new. The little 2 pll only required a power wire upgrade & a little massage then oops perfect. Well Done as always BBI. God Bless & stay safe, TMP, Unit 22 from N.J.
Shout out to BBI, and all amplifier builders and Ham Radio fans. Maybe one day I will be able to build my own amplifier. Had a chance to work on exisiting 27.12Mhz and 6.78Mhz industrial amplifiers. Really interesting 😇
