Pete didnt just bet on baseball, as Frank casually said. He bet against the team he was managing. Thats what really hurt Pete, no pun intended. He deserves his place in the HOF but when you are betting against the team you are managing, thats a serious gambling problem.... not only that, it was the Reds. Its bad news, real bad... but also something a man can be forgiven for.
If anyone cares about NL/AL records anymore, Pete is still tied with Wee Willie Keller (1897) for the NL's longest hitting streak (44), and second longest in MLB behind DiMaggio's 56.
There is no way pete doesnt belong in the HOF as a player while he is alive, its a disgrace,he has more then paid for what he done an after all there is no one alive who can be MR BASEBALL anymore then pete,an for that matter BARRY BONDS belongs in there too as many others as well, the steroid era was an era,the owners all knew an now they look like hypocrites denying these men
The real Frank Thomas played in cavernous Forbes Field He was a superior athlete in every way No steroids Fast very strong Often caught line drives bare handed Extremely well skilled boxer puncher Top ten of greatest baseball players ever Ruth Mantle Cobb DiMaggio Musial Eddie Matthews Duke Snider Killebrew Maris Rocky Colavito
Rose, 100% HOF. Before he is too old. Want to see him youthful and complete. Hes HONEST. His betting is for himself. Not much, wrong with that, if betting is legal. Betting against is a different story. Rose, always hit and hustle. A #HOF for sure!
The Hall Of Fame is a fraud. Tim Raines case is proof it’s a joke. He’s at least one of the 1%. He should’ve got 90% on his first ballot. But the writers and hall of fame is a fraud
Ozzie should still be managing, but he's totally right in the end of this interview when he says you can no longer be honest with people. It is what got him in trouble in the game. He's old school. Tells it like it is. He comes from a time where you can have a difference of opinions and still be friends. He was entertaining. I miss these guys in sports.
Many say Bo was the greatest athlete of the three. Charles Barkley was 6'4' and over 285 lbs and played like a guy 60 lbs less. Think about that for a moment.
I started watching the White Sox because I loved watching Big Hurt, and I stopped watching when Mark was let go. Love you guys! Thank you for the great memories!
Something must have been in the water at Auburn in the early 1980's. Three of the most talented, down to earth guys ever to grace the sports landscape at one time attended Auburn together. I am not an Auburn fan, but I cannot think of any university who produced three guys that talented in different sports, at one time. I used to think Bo JAckson was the boring one out of the threee. Seems like Frank has to take that mantel, although he does have that million dollar smile.
Wow. I know I am a year late here, but I was a big fan of Pete Rose in the 70s, and I was a big fan of Frank Thomas in the 90s. I don't watch much baseball anymore. This was a great interview. The respect shown both ways, and the honesty about today's game, and the players expectations, is just refreshing. Thanks!
