Essentially you are increasing the size of the turbine. If you simply increase the size of the internal vawt to the size with the deflectors it will be about the same. It is the same with hawt turbines that use an outer cone to funnel wind into the blades. It is the same as just making the blades bigger. But the cone is cheaper to make than the blades. Problem is the cone is fixed and in high winds will be blown down where the spinning blades can survive better.
This video is over 10 years old. I don't see a generator, just the water wheel. So I'm guessing th8s was a fail. Especially with the lack of new videos...
Yall are missing it big time. You need to revisit your high school physics. I use a Darius power blade with a Savonius starter to achieve slow rpm with high torque, which runs a d.c. generator. My entire VAWT has just one moving piece. Apparently, the concept is too simple for others, but mine have run well for over 50 years now.

Extend the rectangular wind catches both up and down to form a trapezoid shape. This will triple the wind energy captured and also cause a bernouli effect.
