The Therapy and Social Change (TaSC) Network is a broad affiliation of people interested in exploring the interface between therapeutic ideas and practices and social justice perspectives and actions. We are interested both in the ways that counselling and psychotherapy can be practiced with social justice concerns in mind (for instance, tackling unconscious biases in the consulting room), and also in the ways that therapeutic principles and practices can be extended out to the wider social realm (for instance, developing social and emotional literacy in schools).

What a rich and inspiring conversation to witness, thought provoking and encouraging despite the difficulties it highlights and opens out. Thank you

I stopped listening after 3 seconds when the opening speaker identified her pronouns as "she/her". What the hell has the "personal confession" or "proclamtion" or "statement" to do with the topic ? Nothing, for me, anyways. So. Byebye. Back to nature. Away from woke blubberish blablabla.

Great stuff. But I thought it was weird to say "the drugs aren't working as well as they did in the 80's". The drugs have gotten better (at least, they can do more, different things). Each drug does what it always did; It's not like we've developed herd immunity to them (Although they are in the water some places...). No, really it's your main claim that explains everything: people are more mentally ill than they used to be, because of the real world itself

Great intro to Liberation Psychologies, alot to consider. In my opinion is compatible with Buddhist philosophy, very open minded and considerate of life in all it's complexities.

I'm not sure if there's going to be a *significant* change after July 4th even with a Labour government. Post-Starmer maybe but not while Starmer is at the helm.

I have to say, at face value, "integrating social activism into therapeutic practice" sounds like a truly terrible idea. Clients come to therapy for help and support and to feel safe being themselves. Bringing our own social views and opinions, or politics into it is the last thing any therapist should even want to do? I shudder at the mere thought of it, and the terrible implications that could arise from it, such as negative experiences for clients and damage to the reputation of the profession as a whole. As therapists we should serve all clients, not promote our own ideologies. And remember, not every therapist is going to share YOUR social and political beliefs and views, if this is the direction the profession moves in, then therapists who believe the opposite to what you do, will also come through that open door and bring their own views into their practice too. What ever happened to professionalism?

I have a lot of respect for Carl Rogers, but I don't understand why almost every training provider is stuck with his books as core reading materials, where a lot of other more recent authers are presenting the same concepts in a more comprehensive way.

Thanks for the great therapy insights, context and virtual session. I’m a scared father turned climate activist in the US , now facing prison time depending on jury verdict this August, who had to part with my wonderful therapist of 5 years because of their inability to support me in my new work.

11:17 Yup- I just can’t listen to her anymore. This is me tapping out.😅 I tried to listen but I just find something about Emmy grates on my nerves. Deeply unfair and possibly mean- but I just can’t listen to her without getting triggered.

By “eliminating extreme wealth with extreme taxes” I don’t think we will eliminate mental health problems . On the contrary they will increase on those selfish arrogant narcissistic people 😂(of course there are many exceptions but for the sake of the joke;))

…As a German Biologist - this is about Domestication and Conditioning in the Techno Sphere. Erich Fromm stated in the 1950´s : “There is no Right Life in a Wrong Environment” We must get sick in such a synthetic non human world It takes intense Endurance and Inner Strength Training to de Condition and restore the Auto Pilot to install a strong strict severe Firewall against all Hijackers and Manipulators … or we rot in the GULAG…
