I've been fishing in the Sonoran Desert since I was a little kid at the Community Fishing Program Lakes all throughout Arizona. I grew up in Phoenix fishing canals and urban lakes. I now reside in Southern Arizona and LOVE Surf Fishing at the Gulf of California. I only get to the gulf once a year, sometimes more if I'm lucky, but it's so much fun for me. I'm going to start documenting my fishing adventures, editing the footage, and create fishing media specific to the Sonoran Desert. Their isn't many channels for Desert based angling, which is very different than other conditions. It's a totally different style of fishing. I'm very good at fishing. Usually my family are the only ones catching fish at the lake and everyone else is getting skunked. I want to help people catch fish and do it in a way that is responsible. I've noticed that most people will take every fish they catch home. We have to help people learn how to be responsible anglers and practice selective harvest.
Thanks for the BFS comment on my channel. I truly appreciate it. I just wanted to comment that a couple of friends and I used to hit Rose A LOT... sometimes every afternoon, as we all had pretty nice handling cars, and that drive is FUN! You just made me think about the last time I was there. The best I can pinpoint is nearly 25 years ago. I moved from Tucson in 2000 and have only been back once to visit since.
When my kids turned 3 I would take a day off during the week and and take them fishing at Rose Canyon Lake. That's what a lot of these older videos are. It's still a Tucson gem that's for sure.
This just came up in my feed. Nice video. I grew up in Oracle and fished Rose Canyon into my teens. We used to fish there as well as from the dam. I left AZ for the military in 1986, but I have fond memories of growing up there.
ive got a couple videos on my channel where i catch some big trout at riggs flat. The secret is to watch for them and where they are feeding. Put a few piece of sweet corn from a can on and toss it out in front of them and let it fall. Good luck next time hope you catch them!
When I went all I could see was grass carp. Apparently AZGF hadn't stocked it due to pH issues. This has been going on at Riggs for a couple years now. It doesn't seem like they're going to fix the pH issues, so it's going to be hit or miss at Riggs.
@@thesonorandesertangler I knew they had stocked grass carp to help with the problem but when I was there I saw alot of dead ones. Maybe they restalked it with grass carp again. Thats sad it used to be such a good trout fishery! Thanks for the reply.
@@DesertDwellerFishing It's pretty sad, we used to go camping here when the kids were really little and it was pretty well stocked. We hadn't been back for a couple of years. Since before the fire that happened up there. We ended up at Roper and Danksworth pond. The kids liked Danksworth pond the best.
This is pretty cool. I'm planning on heading up to that little lake this weekend and I was just stopping by to do some research on what works best for this lake. Thanks for the info!!! I also love the fact that you take your son out fishing. It really teaches them love and skills at a young age!!
In the past I've caught trout using worms and corn. This trip in the video I only saw grass carp. Apparently the weeds in the lake are making the pH swing and the AZGF stocks it sparingly.
I go super excited when I saw the ceviche, thinking you made it with the leatherjacks you caught but then I saw it was snapper (and began drooling lol). Awesome videos man!! I cant wait to go back and do some fishing (boat if weather permits or just off the shore). Tight lines bro, cheers!!
Awesome video bro!! We've never stayed in Las conchas... but the fishing sure looks good there. I'm curious if you ever did cook those slender silver fish (no one knows what they're called but doing some research I think they are called Castin Leatherjack or leatherjacket). I've caught some before.. just never kept any. I'm wondering how they taste.
Sorry it's taken forever to respond! They're good but it's flakey meat. I grill it with skin on for a couple minutes. Season the meat side, cook with skin side on the grill. Baste with butter 🙌🏽
Why are you using pliers? What are you processing for? Just pick it up for Pete's sake. None of this is correct. Please consult a Cajun before posting another video
Nice. Rose Canyon is a beautiful area on Mt. Lemmon, typically catch my limit within a half hour. I use either light green garlic powerbait or a blue and silver kastmaster. 👊
@@thesonorandesertangler its super painful to watch our mountain burn, born and raised in Tucson and everytime Catalinas catch fire its heart breaking.
@@SoAzFishing My kids are 7th generation Tucson'en 🤘🏽It's super painful. We had planned on camping there and hiking into the lake for a Father's Day fishing trip before the fires broke out. It's a rough 2020 on every level.
Hey where los conchas did you fish....i assume it was mostly sandy? I will be in los conchas this weekend and looking to same rig setup....I used to live/fish in Florida
TheNMStorm Sorry I missed your comment. I walked the beach until I hit a school of fish and then set up. Watch for big topography changes when the tide is low.
good information. how did you do that day? I caught one off shore at playa miramar (top water ). Lil silver one. leather jacket? took a charter and did really well .
Desert Dwellers I think its Frabill crayfish trap, I got it at the Sportsman's Warehouse a couple years back. It packs up real nice and works really good.
Adrian Franco Cortez Lake, but I wouldn't consider it a good place. It's more about putting in the time and having a good strategy. I pulled an all nighter to get these catfish
Patrick Baca I use kastmaster spoons 3/8oz and up in silver and chrome. I like the zara spook poppers too. These work really well when their aggressive. On this particular trip they weren't very aggressive, so I had more luck with cut bait. I have a video of my cut bait rig. When its real slow I'll walk the beach with spoons or spooks to get into fish.
thanks. I haven't really shore fished there. I've taken a charter once but this time I would like to fish the shore. have you tried shrimp or squid? oh I watched all your videos and gave them a thumbs up. ;)
Patrick Baca I was able to catch a small fish on Day 1 that I used for the rest of the trip. I have used shrimp with success in the past. The Zman shrimps are a good option too for soft plastics.
Bubba Bass Commented with my other RU-vid channel ☝️🏽😂 Anyways, I'm in the process of posting regularly on both my channels. Real content for real People.
