Still out here fishing with the family. This is from this year. From this month in fact. I am using a Shimano 7'1" Sellus MH 2 piece spinning rod and a Shimano Sienna 4000 size reel. I'm throwing a 1/2 oz Shimano Swagy Strong Spinnerbait in the Natural Bait colorway. I have found that Spinnerbaits, Paddle Tail Swimbaits, Metal Spoons, and Jerkbaits are the best lures for fishing the surf. You just need to walk the beach casting into the surf until you hit a school of fish. Sometimes I walk pretty far. We're talking miles and other times I don't have to walk far at all like in this video. In my opinion the Spinnerbait produces bigger fish on a consistent basis. The jerkbait is probably the most effective, but I catch a lot of small fish on them. These are my two confidence baits for surf fishing. You don't need special gear either. I'm literally using a $50 freshwater bass spinning rod and a $30 reel. It performed flawlessly. It would be better to use a saltwater rated combo, but I don't fish the surf that often, so it gives me an excuse to dust off my budget gear.
