this is a fascinating story!!! im looking for the planecrash reports, any body has a copy of the report? ive read the book too, wich's a good one too!! RIP to the victims and Marten! a BIG TX for the video my friend!! :D
Just came back from Sun River yesterday. Been going there for years. Best part of it is the airport and river areas. Some of the houses have hangers with direct access to the runway. So someone could literally land their plane and taxi it right into the hanger inside a house. My inlaws flew in while we were visiting. Parked their plane at the airport for the day and flew out that night. So convenient.
Agree on the apple watch in terms of its available apps/features and usability. Other watches re prettier but that doesnt matter to me. Also agree that its not really needed and has some features that can be helpful/useful/add some elements of safelty. Would be interesting to see a test with total failure of aircraft instruments and avionics to see if the watch could help a pilot get out of a jamb.
Martin Hartwell flew myself and another Canadian Fisheries worker out of a camp near Cambridge Bay in the summer of 1973. At the time I did not know the story of his ordeal of the previous year. He flew us out of a bad situation and the takeoff was a near miss, as one of the floats on the aircraft was half full of water. We barely cleared a copse of trees during takeoff. He looked back at us with huge relief when the takeoff was successful.
Hmm, I don't think you've paid enough attention to battery life. The Apple Watch needs to be charged practically every day, whereas the D2 Mach Pro only needs to be charged once a week at most. And yes, I understand your point about Fly Mode, but the overall battery life is a real USP for the Garmin. If you are out and about and forget your Apple charging cable, you have a problem. I find the METAR's and SR/SS time on the display very useful. Above that, it has a database onboard (so you do not need to be online) with all global airports and navaids, plus, a lifetime subscription to update this database. This alone cost a fortune. Also, the powerful flashlight of the D2 Mach Pro is really handy, also a clear USP. And I have the impression that the Garmin is mechanically more robust than the Apple, although I'm not 100% sure about that, but my Apple Watch has already had a broken display and the repair cost a fortune. And I like the feel of operating via multiple buttons, rather than menu structures. And yes, the Apple Watch is seamlessly integrated into Apple's ecosystem, just as seamlessly as Garmin is integrated into the whole avionics ecosystem in the cockpit. My conclusion, both manufacturers deliver excellent products, it's more a matter of taste. I just think it's cool that Garmin offers a watch for pilots.
While flying, the Garmin Mach1 tactile buzzer coupled with timer is not strong enough to give a perceived alarm to manage fuel tank. So, I use the Apple Ultra, which is excellent for this purpose . Foreflight and Aeroweather Pro are great apps for the Ultra .
So dearly missed, thank you for the explanation of how a bright light dimmed. May this prevent further tragedy….thank you for the detailed explanation that can save others from the same fate.
I found my Ultra watch shows me wrong directions where my iPhone shows correct directions. They were absolutely opposite. So I returned my Apple watch. Will never buy Apple Watch for this purpose.
I love my Ultra watch in the cockpit and for preflight. I have 7 apps easily accessible, (Top row: E6B calculator, UTC digital clock, ForeFlight w/ local windspeed and direction. In the middle is a huge stopwatch which I start with a tap as part of my engine start procedure. Bottom row: Spotify, Watch Battery, 30min timer for switching low wing tanks in a Piper Archer.). Is also great as a backup cellular and GPS device as well as onboard barometer and blood oxygen measurement app. I would recommend this watch in a heartbeat to any pilot.
In case of emergency I would take Garmin. Because maps work without internet connection. And battery can last 2-3 times longer. And it has good flashlight. I think the tactical version can also send/inform gps location.
Used to fly in that air space almost daily. Learned to fly at Long Beach and flew around the Los Angeles basin for almost 20 years. Best training ever…….I have no problem with almost any air space.
I’ve flown into Fullerton 40+ times over the past 20 years and this was by far the worst. Helicopters landing on taxiways, pilots busting airspace and those not able see others in the traffic pattern. We left three days later and it was totally calm.
It would be easier to follow what's happening if you provide us your N#. I had trouble figuring that out. I always enjoyed these types of situations once I had some experience! But for low-experience pilots it creates a high level of pucker factor!!
America's best wine region is located in Mendoza, Argentina... which is in America. If this video is about the United States of America then correct the title, please. Stop using the name of our continent to refer to your own country, it talks really bad about you and your ego. It's from a really bad taste, and it's simply WRONG. Thank you! nice video! I hope you don't take this the wrong way. bye!
