These videos are a much higher quality than some of the ones from the bigger warhammer channels, so I think they deserve a lot more popularity than they're getting. That being said, I love the idea of imperial guard with gretchin, the painting techniques are something I try to copy with my own models and the creativity of your extra added kit bashed bits is so inspiring. And the model looks awesome too.
Ahh man really appreciate it thank you, still got a lot improvements I want to make to my videos so hopefully they will continue to get better over time! Me too, I love the little green boys mixed with the imperial guard aesthetic, good luck with your own builds dude!
Do it my man, I thought about it for this build but would’ve ended up a bit too cluttered so might be one for next time, let me know how yours goes if you do it though as it sounds awesome!
Damn that looks sick! the "only purple" for the tank was definitely the right call, made your added details like the lighting effects and the little extra guys really pop If you do end up using that demolisher canon for something, might I suggest having a grot stick out of it? :P Theres quite a famous photo of a WW2 german sturmtiger with a soldier leaning out of the barrel, and I think these lovely little green guys really would clamber around and into everything
Glad you think so my man! And I love that idea and know the photo, so will definitely be using it, I have something a bit extreme planned for the next one but hoping it will work out, thanks for watching!!
Nicely done! The Osl are simple yet effective (and don't steal too much the attention); for the commander/captain I suggest a classic Cpt Boogers or a more serious Kaptin Lee "De Man" Rass.
Thank you dude appreciate you watching as always! I’d definitely be open to that in the future, gotta brush up on my game/rule knowledge a bit also, barely got to grips with 9th edition by the time it changed to 10th 😄
WARNING: This is a longer comment! But it has all the details that you asked for!!! So if you still don’t get why some people paint the way they do after reading this, then nothing will help you!!! Just saying lol So if you don’t care about that or don’t like long comments then skip this!!! Honestly I want to know who paints their minis 100% with all the detail on the sprue without cutting the sprue at all and then cuts the pieces out and try’s to glue them together??? Like the only time I’ve ever seen anyone paint their minis like that was when those people were planing on keeping them as is! And they do NOT cut anything out!!! But those are not meant for playing with!?! There made as wall art (I don’t know……. I’m not so rich that I can buy a bunch of this stuff for my walls and then more so I can play with!?! And if I don’t have any interest in the game and don’t plan on cutting it out of the sprue, then I’ll just spend my money on the stuff I will actually be using)! But also on the opposite side of things, I’m not a fan of gluing the mini 100% together and if you can’t reach a area do the “lazy technique” of base coat it black and hope no one actually picks up your mini to look at it!!! Like yeah, when people are looking at it from a video or a picture you can easily angle it so those people can’t see your lazy spots! And yes also, when it’s on the tabletop and it’s far enough away where you/whoever isn’t trying to actually look at the details of the mini then it’s also hard to see! But at least to me, I want each one of my mini’s to look good enough that if someone picks up one at random EVERYTHING is painted perfectly!!! So depending on the mini that will determine what I’m going to do!?! If nothing is blocked off in a large enough area were there is no way I can get a brush in there, then I will do sub assembly (and yes, you have also done this in your videos I’ve already watched even if that’s not what you think it is! If you’re confused about what I’m talking about, ask?!?)! If not, then I will put it all together (minus the base) and then prime and paint it! But if I do sub assembly, then I won’t do the final details on the outer parts or were those pieces are going to connect until I put in all together and then clean up anything that might have got messed up (which is rare and if anything, it’s minor! But I also know better than to use plastic glue doing this because it will destroy any paint it touches)! But 1 pieces I will almost always keep separate to paint is the head! If the head was attached to the sprue from the part that is going to get glued then I will keep it on “a piece of the sprue” that was cut out! Because then you can get to ALL the mold lines!!! If it’s attached at the top (which I think is a dumb idea from those companies that do that! Unless the heads really big) then I cut it out! But then I attach it to something else that doesn’t block any part of the head! And once I’m done with the details of the face I glue it in place which since the part that attaches you will never be able to see, it doesn’t mess anything up ever (unless you intentionally try to mess it up)!!! I just find it hilarious that people actually think and act like there is only 1 way “you have to do it”!?! Just because you can’t do it that way that doesn’t make it wrong! But even worse is those people that will preach about 1 way being wrong and should never be done!?! And then when it really matters they end up doing it that way but will lie about it or call it something else!!!
I love that idea! And I’m definitely going to try it in my massive diorama I’ve been building once I get to the sections that have fighting going on!?!
All great ideas!!! A few I already knew about but never got done that good though!!! 1 things I would love to learn how to make would be extra bits?!? Like the missiles you had in 1 of the crates!?! I know you get a few from certain box sets…… but I usually use those for those sets!!! But I would love to know how the best way to make more just like it!?!
Thank you my man, glad you liked them, I’m 99% sure the missiles were from an older cadian heavy weapons kit, but I could see it being fairly easy to make some similar ones from styrene rods and similar little bits, so maybe a video idea for the future!
7:17- I’m not sure how good this would work…… mainly because this video just gave me the idea!?! But I wonder if you 1st paint it the wood color! Then put a decent amount of Matt clear varnish over it! Then paint the green over all of that after everything is 100% dry! Then just like you just showed us, green, green wash, then sand it (obviously you would need to sand lighter! So you don’t go through all of the paint)! And if you did it right and that 1st coat of varnish did its job, then on all the pieces that the green paint is going would be the wood brown!?! To make it look way more realistic!??
I really like this one!!! I hope you don’t mind me leaving so many comments!?! But I was curious about something that you might want to do (if you aren’t already doing it)…….. What do you think about making your diorama sections that you have already made into 1 big diorama?!? Not doing the same thing but on a bigger section!?! I mean figure out a way that you could attach all of them together to make 1 big diorama?!? I have a lot of ideas that you could use to accomplish that! But again, it would be very long! So if you would like to know let me know then?!? And/or let me know where a better place would be to have these conversations?!? I haven’t checked yet, but I could check to see if you have a Instagram account!?! I’m rarely ever on social media anymore! But I could check…….. and if there is 1, I’ll let you know what my screen name is in there!?! Because NO, it’s not the same!
15:35- Um…… I know! Lol What I mean is I’ve done it and it does work pretty good! Another thing I just started working on (I haven’t gotten to the point where I’m taking any pictures yet) is putting holes in the ground/floors because some of the troopers I want to add to the diorama are also apart of my armies!?! And I’m not rich!?! Do I can’t really afford to buy 2 or more of everything!!! So I base them with whatever they would be starting on and the base slides right into the opening of the dioramas! And eventually when I’m done with that/those pieces/sections of the diorama then I’m going to number each space (where you would only be able to see it if the mini wasn’t already in it) and that mini! So even if I end up with 100 spots, their all numbered so it will be as easy as just looking at the numbers on the bottom!!!
11:59- Yup……… that is definitely far TOO MUCH grime!?! Like I don’t know how you work out how/why you make each piece the ways you do?!? But with me personally, I like to tell a story with each piece/section! Like I agree that you definitely should have put it “almost” all over the floor! Because that shows that 10s of millions of soldiers have marched in there from the battlefields for more equipment and no one is hiring to do the cleaning! Lol but 1) I would have tried to stick the thickest parts of the grime to the main part that all of the soldiers would need to take to get there stuff! And the rest of the areas I would have done maybe a few grime footprint trails! And that would show not many people walk right there…… but once in awhile someone does! 2) I wouldn’t have put it all over the walls, because now it takes away what we thought of why the floors look like they do!?! Unless you have zero thought going through your brain and you actually think people walk all over the walls also?!? But for everyone anyone would touch or lean against I would have added it!?! And maybe a little bit on the weapons……. But they would have at least “tried” to whip off all the crud before hanging them back up for the next customer that wants it!?! So if I added any to it, I would only in the areas of the weapons that would have been harder to get to do a quick clean job! And 3) I would have at least added a bit of blood! Maybe in a way that it looks like blood was on 1 of the guys boots and he tracked it in!?! Or someone had a wound but they were like “shut up! It’s just a scratch! But I do need more bullets/magazines so I can get back to it”!?! But again, I definitely wouldn’t over do it! Because then it just looks like it’s apart of the floor and wall color scheme!?! Sorry this was long! But also I hope you don’t take any of this as me judging your work in a negative way?!? I really like your work (from what I’ve seen so far) and I can’t wait to see more! I just want to give you a few ideas that maybe you could use!?! And since you definitely have more skill in this then I do, you could make it look as good as it does when I picture it in my head!!! Edit: (12:43) I guess you got a lot of it off the walls and blended in the rest perfectly! 1 of the things I like to try to do with the walls (I mean besides what I already said lol) is when it comes to metal walls, I like to make it look like they had someone paint them to cover up the metal look…. But also to make the soldiers more docile (if you don’t know what I’m talking about Or just don’t get it, that’s why aircraft carriers and subs are paint dull colors! Because brighter colors heighten the brain activity in both a positive and negative ways! But also very dark colors just put people’s brain in more of a negative state of mind! They also do it for prisons and schools! So it’s not just military! And it’s not just “my opinion”)! But then have paint peeling off (and if you don’t have your own technique to do that then let me know?!? It’s a bit long to write and this is already beyond the length I wanted it to be) and spots where there’s no paint left!?!
6:04- Is that the actual name?!? “Plastic card”? I’m really asking! I was hoping that you would have everything or some stuff listed in your description….. but either way, I’d like to check it out!?!
That was cool! I was hoping that the stuff coming off of the trees was going to be something you threw together (where I could also do because I also had the same stuff) and not something I would have to buy!?! But it’s all good! What army is this for? Their NOT Orks!?! Each one looks like those little guys the Orks have with them…….. I can’t think of their names right now….. ugh!?! Anyways, is that what your plans are? To have a Ork army without any Orks?!?
That was kinda cool!?! I mean what you built was awesome!!! And they were definitely dirty lol I alike seeing these videos because I’m partly done with my Cadia diorama!?! But each piece/section is way bigger than what you built here….. And there’s going to be 6 pieces/sections! Ugh I know…… I’m over my head lol I just started my 3rd piece/section! I wish I could show you and see what you think and also if you wanted to know how I did anything I could also tell you!?! But it’s all good either way!?!
0:48- Do you have a 3D printer? There are a lot of good files that are available nowadays!!! And even if you don’t, you could pay a bit more for someone to print it for you (that obviously has permission)!
I love it. I can almost hear the midges 😅 I just completed my swamp diorama. I wasn’t particularly careful with my resin pour as I figured bubbles and imperfections would add effect? Of course I did a flawless pour - not one bubble.
Hahaha always the way my friend, I did a project a while before this one that I wanted perfect and it ended up insanely bubbly, then for this one (same as you) I thought some bubbles could help the effect, and none were to be found!
Genuinely, the knife in the sandbag I thought was the actual model from the heavy weapons team kit. The old kit, or atleast the Brood Brothers box I got came with it, has a sandbag with a knife stuck in it. So that's cool.
Hahaha I did definitely borrow their idea for that piece to be fair, but glad that it looks so similar, shows you what you can easily do at home! And thanks for watching dude
Love the stories that you tell with these dioramas and your poses are fantastic. Just like your dioramas your videos are great bite sized treats that are well crafted and very entertaining. Looking forward to the next one :)
What sucks about the current catachan models is that their command squad actually looks really good, with still buff looking dudes but their proportions and bodies aren't all lumpy like the Catachan Infantry kit is, all the 3rd party "not catachan" kits still dont scratch the itch of retro Catachan models
