Hello. My name is Andy. I am armed with a car, a GoPro and an unhealthy amount of time on my hands. My ambition is to visit every civil parish in England.
There are about 11,000 of them, give or take a few hundred. The number keeps changing.as parishes are created or abolished.
I live in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, so many of my early videos will be local, but eventually I aim to go much much further afield, so please subscribe if you're new here!
I occasionally upload something that's unrelated. For example, check out my Musical Idiot playlists for all my music related content!
I have a me a Facebook page too! facebook.com/The-Village-Idiot-226069228730989
Please consider buying me a coffee to support the channel! The more I get the faster I'll get to your parish! www.buymeacoffee.com/thevillageidiot
I recognise that Orange Ford Granada (i think its a Granada) i did work experience when i was at school in Ruskington at a Garage based there and he owned that car!
Great video as usual. What you liked on the church door is called ‘dog tooth’ and is typical of Early English architecture - don't get to into though, or you'll spend end up spending hours in churchyards and you've a lot to do. Good luck.
Apparently Fairy's Field was named for Fairy the horse who lived in it for many years. My grandparents lived in the cottage next to Fairy's Field, then moved into no 2 Fairy's Field.
@@TheVillageIdiot If you can differentiate what Nicholas said, then you deserve respect. Haha, Nicholas hasn't made it clear how he is sounding the word.
the chinese was the bakery and the one opposite was a news agents off-licence. to the right of the chinese were all shops but now housing. yes you can catch a bus if it turns up. the church is now a home.
Well done, Andy, Nicky and Lauren - great job. You covered this huge parish with some fascinating facts, lots of history - and hopscotch! That was a sight that won't be easy to forget! Loved it.
Nope. Sorry. You are wrong. The boundary is just beyond the main school building, which places it in Thornton le Clay. I can't upload pictures into comments or else I'd show you here. However, go to my community tab shortly, and I'll put a picture there to show you
@@TheVillageIdiot Ok, well i live in the Parish & was always told that the sign for TLC was the boundary. Surely it would be called Thornton School otherwise & The Rectory is also known as Foston Rectory, i suppose because the church is there & the school is Church of England.
Hi great video, my mom was born and raised on the hillside in the village and I was brought up in Whiston living there untill my late twenties. You keep referring to the village brook, it's the village dyke not a brook. Just saying!😊
Great video. I know the place well. Born in Garforth many moons ago. Worked for 4 years on Throstlenest Farm, halfway between Garforth and Barwick, opposite the Golf Course. Now I reside in New Zealand. Enjoyed your videos of the surrounding villages. Well done, keep up the good work.
Lovely Village, i spent many days/nights at RAF Digby in the 90's as my mate's Dad was in the RAF based there, Plus it was not far from Ruskington where i grew up 🙂🙂
Jimmy Armett is/was a farmer I believe, Sid Armett too. We used to get our eggs from Mrs Armett who lived at the farm on the main road which runs at the top of the new estate.
The floral hall wherein in 1950 I played the part of the little drummer boy in the Amateur Operatic Society production of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Gondoliers".
Thanks for the video. We live in Aston on Trent. Regarding crossing the Trent this can be done by vehicle locally from Willington to Repton and via Cavendish Bridge between Shardlow and the Sawley island junction.
Other than Sawley, those are all places I've yet to cover: Aston on Trent, Willington, Repton and Shardlow and Great Wilne will all have their own videos
There's a small town named Skelton in the Redcar district, it's an area I know well. I'm looking forward to see when you cover the parishes in that part of Yorkshire (or Redcar and Cleveland as it's officially known).
There is indeed - it's part of Skelton and Brotton parish. I was looking at that area recently because I ALMOST decided to go up to Middlesbrough later this year to do some, but changed my mind
@@TheVillageIdiot My Mum comes from that area and I've been there many times to see family. Places like Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Skelton (or as it's sometimes called Skelton-in-Cleveland), Redcar, Brotton, Guisborough, etc are all places I know pretty well. It'll really exciting to see you visit them.
