@@xpresscolourart5531 Thank you man, really appreciate this! It was some scrap on the fly rod! Hopefully I can get another one before the end of the season, I am based around the West of Scotland (Helensburgh area) what about yourself?
@@theanglingfront Clyde valley area Some right good salmon been caught over past few months amazing stuff man I have never fished for sea trout but now i absolutely must 😵💫 I pass Helensburgh area on the bike now n then but as for The fishing I haven’t a clue where tae start haha
@@xpresscolourart5531 Yeah man, seen some crackers online getting caught, and yeah sea trout are good fun, especially on the fly, as for the area, the whole place fishes really well for them, unfortunately we are nearing the end of the season which is a shame, gonna have to think what to target during the winter now 😂
Think I passed u earlier on the arrochar road am heading upto fyne then loch etive uf yer about tmo catch up for a session mate in big white camper van wi aw the rods lol
Hi Barry, I didn’t even notice, sorry, and that would be amazing but I’m working all this weekend unfortunately, would love a session at somepoint though! What’s your target species for the two lochs?
Great video mate enjoyed that. I still only fish lures and isome. Fished a lure only species hunt at the weekend and picked up loads of corkwing wrasse but zero interest from the Ballan at Arrochar. Almost headed to furnace as I’ve still never fished it yet
Thank you mate, really appreciate that, and yeah I heard a few guys saying they have had Ballans on dark lures in Scotland, I’m still yet to catch one, hopefully I can break the curse! And it’s a great area very snaggy but usually very consistent to fish! 🎣
@@marksearle6429 I think the actual quarry is Mark ie the pier, we were fishing the boulders all along the outside of it on the north side, however I did see a few anglers fishing the pier on the same day so maybe they have allowed access? I haven’t ventured over into the actual quarry in many years, I used to love fishing the pier side for Conger and Pollock, amazing memories from when I was a young guy
Thank you WTC always appreciate it, and yeah man, absolutely brilliant day, couldn’t have picked a better session to spend time with my brother too, hope all is well mate 🤘🏻🎣
Brilliant video well in on the wrasse..only used to catch cod and pollock from the peir and Rocks where you were many years ago until they shut it all off ..but went a few months ago was there about 8 o clock on a Fri night water was like glass but nothing so it was a cracking mark back in the day bud but ppl ripped the ouss out of it camping out and leaving the place a mess😢
Thank you Scott always appreciate your comments mate, and I totally agree with you, every time I walk the boulders at this mark I always see heaps of discarded rubbish left on the flat grass area after the quarry, absolutely disgusting, when I used to fish it consistently years ago the Pollock fishing was absolutely tremendous, shame I couldn’t manage one on this session, hopefully next time however! 🎣
Always appreciate it Scooge, and yeah you’re right it has to be one of the snaggiest marks I’ve fished 😂 but hey I suppose that’s why the fishing seems to be fairly decent there, what’s your thoughts on the lack of Pollock?
Mate last year was decent as well for pollock and coal fish ..but noticed was well over populated way so many people fishing last year and taking anything they caught home …even done a over night here for couger and that seemed slow as was pretty much the only place I fished for conger …have you ever fisher ottery ferry ???? Can’t seem to find much about it and obv been scanning google earth for spots lol 😂
@@theanglingfront "noticed was well over populated way so many people fishing last year and taking anything they caught home" ... maybe scooge has a point ? Keep the videos and locations coming.
@@scooge8630 That’s mental! And I’ve never fished Otter Ferry? Is that close by? I would love to have another Conger Session here at some point!! I think if I’m going to fish it for conger I may want to free line it as it’s so bloody snaggy!! 😂
great vid, where do you recommend digging for rag, last two times ive got them from the angling centre they been dead already and last ones smelt like they been dead for a while
Thank you very much mate, really appreciate it, and it’s been years since I’ve bought Ragworm, shame the batch you bought was of poor quality! I stay round Helensburgh way and I have had really good success in Rhu and Garelochead for big Ragworm! I tend to find the King Ragworm under rocks or kelp that lay right on the low tide mark at these venues, unfortunately I haven’t dug anywhere else outside of where I stay so depending where you live there could probably be better areas closer to you, Sorry if this was not helpful. 🎣
@@alancarter5141 Thank You Alan, really appreciate that, the wrasse were definitely in a feeding frenzy that day!! Glad I got to spend time with my brother catching them 😁🎣
An excellent video as always 🎣 The thing that i appreciate the most from your channel, is your exemplary fish handling skills. For which you should be hugely applauded 👏👏👏 If only more RU-vid angling presenters would take a leaf out of your book. As far, far too often so many of them drag the fish up the rocks, grazing them over the barnacles and sharp edges etc. Then spend much too long taking multiple unnecessary photos of the fish, which is often scraped, damaged and gasping for breath...before finally literally hurling them back into the water.. often from a ridiculous height. It's really infuriating to watch and really boils my piss!! Many fish, particularly sea fish such as wrasse, may look tough and sturdy..but they're actually very delicate creatures and are easily susceptible to damage and often fatally. So hats off to you pal and keep up your fantastic work. Such a great channel 👍
Thank you very much Andrew really appreciate that, that’s one of the nicest comments Ive ever had mate! Very thankful my friend, I will try to continue the standard of fish handling to the very best of my ability 🤘🏻🎣
@theanglingfront You're very welcome indeed pal. I can't praise you enough for the way that you treat all the fish that you catch. You're the perfect role model for anglers, especially novices to the sport. Like i said before, if only more people on RU-vid and in general, would share the same care and respect for their catches, the better it would be! Alex and Gordon on Angling 360 are also absolutely excellent in this regard. Must be a Scottish thing, eh? Tight lines pal 🎣 👍
@@johnwadsworth9928 Thank you John, really appreciate that, it’s a shame we didn’t get any pollock, however we spoke to a gentleman on his boat who also said he didn’t manage any pollock either! But the Ballans definitely made up for it 😁
Amazing! Normally where I stay on the West coast of Scotland, usually the mackerel are few and far between from the shore in November! I always assumed they leave winter time and head for the deeper water?
@@1xtremeaudio Hi man, Appreciate it thanks and you need a permit regardless, the season starts from the 11th of February till 31st of October, that’s the only time you are allowed to fish for them. I buy the Clyde Estuary permit which covers a lot of water to be able to fish for them legally, Hope this helps mate 😁🤘🏻
@@theanglingfront Thanks for getting back to me. Are you able to buy a day ticket or is it seasonal and can you buy them online? I caught my first sea trout this year and I’m now hooked!
@@1xtremeaudio Well done on the sea trout man, many more to come I hope for you, and I usually buy my permit from a tackle shop in Helensburgh Called Tickers Tackle, I always buy the seasonal permit but I’m fairly certain there is a day or weekend ticket you can purchase
@@mariomallia9726 I don’t personally think so Mario, that whole sea loch produces Sea trout, same as the estuary a bit further up, all great ground, but you do need a permit to fish for them legally
Hi mate, that was an Abu Garcia Devil Rod I think it was 20grams? The reel was 3000 size, unfortunately I don’t use this set up anymore as the Rod broke twice! Since then I switched back to a HTO urban finesse 17 gram Rod 😁
Hi Darren, these are Infact sea run brown trout. They are brown trout that are born in the fresh water and migrate to sea(up coast or in estuary’s/lochs near there native river) to feed and return to the rivers they were born in.
@@theanglingfront hi pal there brownies tht go between salt n fresh water not proper seatrout different colour ext real seatrout look difrent mate they've not got tht gold colour
@@DarrenClark-f5zYeah you are right, some trout will hang about the estuary and surrounding lochs to feed and stay in brackish water and will return to the river to spawn and stay in the region of the estuary/lochs. People call them slob trout. Also at this time of year and with all this rain you will get trout that are getting ready to spawn and hanging about the “burn estuary’s” that will also slightly colour up. These fish weren’t caught in an estuary, they were caught close but they were in a sea loch. As you say could be a slob trout that has travelled a bit for good feed but at the end of the day, it’s the same species and it has went to the sea to feed but due to the brackish water it hasn’t adapted fully and took on the silver colour you are talking about. Half and half per se.
@@DarrenClark-f5zThey were caught in a sea loch and it doesn’t feel right calling them brownies😂 Will just call it a slob trout then haha. Tight lines buddy, it’s a very interesting subject!
Nice one mate, I'm seatrout daft and have done alot of seatrout fishing down that way and had them up to 11lb and been snapped off bigger as I only ever use 6lb line, I have moved away from that area and now I can catch seatrout from my front door, it's pure God's country
Thank you mate, really appreciate that, and I totally agree with you, the feeling of hooking into one on the fly for me is immense! Was absolutely buzzing especially when they start jumping, love it!!
Cheers mate! Aye you do get some stunning fish in this loch and the surrounding area! Hope your well bud and the fishing has been good across the water!
@@theanglingfront im not sure ive ever seen 1 so spotty mate, its insane the variation in the fish from 1 to the next, aye mate toilin away at it have had a few decent 1s this season
@@whitetroutchannelIt truly is amazing mate! Glad you had a decent season, it’s flew in this year and with all the this rain hopefully get back on the river before the season ends!
@@theanglingfront mate its went by like a bloody rocket, im not sure if i remember 1 goin by as quick, your right the weathers played a major factor in it this year, 1 good day mate then 6 bad 😪
The season goes in very fast, hard to do it all, we’re getting some good fishing at times… not as good as it was… as we keep saying., keep up the good work pal 🎣
That's very interesting...I caught a similar looking fish on a Loch with buttery brown belly....I wasn't sure if it was a Sea trout but now I'm convinced....especially by the plumpness and deep red gills...your video is Complete evidence that they are not all totally silver in the Sea . I have also caught settled sea trout in the same Loch that are " Blacker" as well as smaller brown trout.,......Great video and commentary.
Hi Adrian, thanks for the comment mate! I think it depends on where you are fishing and the time of year. Some sea trout don’t leave the brackish water if the feeding is good and will just feed in and around the estuary. Some will go along the coast line to feed and become proper bright silver. Could also be a kelt that’s recently spawned. At the end of the day they are both the same fish😂 Tight lines mate!
@@KristopherMcdonald-dx5et I think 2 hours before low and fishing the tide right into the high mark is best in my opinion but you can get them any tide really!
That looks like perfect conditions for fishing. I have never fished fore them in salt water but I guess it is similar to fishing for them in the lochs of the Western Isles where there is no river current to tire them out. I noticed that you were fishing with a Greys rod I also always fish with a Greys rod my weapon of choice is the Platinum XD 11 ft 7 weight which they no longer make but with a lifetime Guarantee hopefully it will see me out. When I was the Ghillie for a well known Glasgow car dealer a number of years ago on a hill loch on the Gleneagles Estate he was struggling to throw a line with his set up I loaned him my XD and he was putting a line out with ease. He subsequently offered me the chance to sell it to him which I declined without hesitation as it and I had too many memories of catching Sea Trout & Salmon on the many estates on the Western Isles to give it away. Sadly due to a hand tremor my days of fishing are behind me but those memories will always be with me and maybe one of my two sons or grandson will pick up the rod in the future and catch some more sea trout or hopefully salmon if the downturn in stocks can be reversed. Tight lines.
Hi John glad you like the video. Yeah the conditions were definitely on our side that day, if you can get a good day with good conditions and the fish are showing it’s a very enjoyable fishing experience going for sea trout in the salt! I can imagine you must have seen a fair few fish on the western isles back in the day. It truly is a shame what has happened to the West coast rivers/fisherys, I would have loved to be able to fish it and enjoy it in its prime because I really think it would be hard to beat the west coast back in those days. The rod I was using is Greys GR60 10ft 7wt and it does cast a line out lovely. Greys/hardy rods really are great just a pain to get replacement blanks if they don’t produce or keep bits for them anymore but hopefully that won’t be an issue! Tight lines mate
@@theanglingfront Just to make you a little jealous my best day was on one of the Amhuinnsuidhe lochs at the end of the Grimersta system on The Isle of Harris (Season 2004) where we had over fifty Sea Trout to the boat. Myself and one other angler with only one fishing at any time and the other manning the oars. I remember still gently rocking slightly as I attempted to get to sleep in my bed that night and intermittently tightening into an imaginary fish.
@@neilsives533 Thank you mate, really appreciated, unfortunately the weather has been absolutely abysmal recently, however I managed to get out fishing during the week and managed to capture a few nice sea trout, upload coming out shortly 😁👍🏻🎣
Absloute cracker lad and on the fly, what a buzz Had my heart in my mouth with the line in the water but well handled mate. Back in the 70's fish like this were quite common and a 30-40 fish session was normal. To get one like that today is an absolute win. Well done.👍🏴😢
Hi mate, I fish mostly the Clyde estuary, and to be honest any body of water you hit on it always seems to throw up some decent sea trout, providing the conditions are decent, Loch Long also, when I have been able to get out fishing I have been hitting the River Leven had some decent sea trout also, but I am more interested in salmon on this river 😂 yet to catch one right enough still haha
