Democracy is the will of the people, as Northern Ireland, Ulaidh or Ulster has always historically had a democratic mandate for independence, even fought hard throughout history to maintain it, being the last Irish Kingdom to be occupied by the British in Ireland. No one else is entitled to interfere with that democratic mandate. Constantly fantasising about unification is delusionary and harms the Northern Irish economy, so should stop. The facts are, that historically only an average of 24% of Northern Irish citizens even identify as Nationalist, while in practice, even fewer than that would be willing to vote for unification, as the negative financial impact on their quality of life and demographic future would be massive. The remaining 77% of Northern Irish have consistently resisted the various pressures applied historically, determined to stay independent from the Republic of Ireland. The Northern Irish have a socialist bias in their health and economic infrastructure, diametrically opposed to the Republic of Ireland’s American style, hustle, tax haven, leprechaun economics, already having a horrific historical demographic, social and investment impact on the three Ulster counties that Republic of Ireland already controls. Think this is all delusionary, check the facts, you will be surprised and don’t block these comments to take the first step in allowing and opening up the discussion. Secular independence not unification is by far the more democratic and prosperous way forward, with by far the most potential for the Northern Irish, opening up opportunities for the Northern Irish such as joining the EU as an independent country and getting the benefits of its close proximity to the UK, very unusually, actually getting the significant benefits of joining the EU as an independent country, all for itself. All this without removing or even reducing the democratic viability of any longer term future aspirations that the Northern Irish citizen might have. Coincidentally, also giving an independent Northern Irish government far greater bargaining power to safeguard its citizens in any future negotiations they might decide to take part in as an independent country. I remember back in the 70s Bernadette went into the lion's jaws to debate with William f Buckley and some young tories ,armed only with a packet of cigarettes.. and tho a young Bernadette she had no problem with Buckley and she gave a heroic account of life in N.I.. well worth a view on RU-vid..
I was emotional through this whole speech. Astounding Outstanding Woman. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ I've been seeing Her Eyes in Nature and in Spirit lately, before I even knew She existed. Very emotional. She describes a certain spiritual picture.
Hello ma’am: I think of you often- thanks to the large scar on the bridge of my nose you gave me via a brick as you exclaimed- (loudly as always 😚) “So you’re sending you’re Children here now” (I was 17) The event was held at ‘Derry (Bogside) ‘70 - ‘71 I’m now a Californian, but the years spent serving the people of Northern Ireland shall forevermore be with me I wish you, you’re family and all people of Ireland North and South a hopeful future John (Third Battalion the Queens Regiment) retired ‘69 - ‘77 California, 2021 🇺🇸
If poverty is good for the soul, think of what capitalists do for the worker's spiritual welfare. Besides, since there's no pockets in habits, what use is all the land the Queen, Pope and Saudi King supposedly own. They can't take it with them when they pop their proverbial clogs.
At least you guys have health care. Here in the States many have no savings and avoid the hospital because even if they have health insurance they still have to pay huge sums that put them in debt and if you have no insurance you go into bankruptcy. It is frighteningly common. I haven't seen a doctor in over 10 years (I'm 37) because I only recently got a job with insurance. Before that it was two part time jobs, thus no insurance, and "self employment gig economy" work. So we here across the ocean envy our neighbors to the north and in Europe for something I'm sure you all never have to worry about. Even though I am envious I am also very very happy for you since our way is total (slang word for excrement).
You're thirty-seven and you never heard of Medicaid? I think 60 million Americans are enrolled in it. It's Socialized Healthcare. And go take a look at what America spends on Medicare, Medicaid, and welfare every year. It's the majority of the Federal budget. And are you aware America has spent trillions fighting poverty since the sixties? And what are all those public housing units all over America? Again, you're actually thirty-seven???
@@tomcarl8021 Do you understand how Medicaid works? You realize you have to qualify for Medicaid right? Meaning if you have a job that pays more than 133% of poverty wages in your state you don't qualify. It varies slightly by state but in my state, that comes out to an annual income of about $16,000 for a single person household. Since I made more than that (pity to those who don't) I didn't qualify. Don't you know anything? It sounds like you certainly don't since based on what you said you clearly don't know who qualifies and who does not. I'm guessing you're clearly either uninformed or are young and have yet to be informed. Edit for spelling.
Great speech Bernadette. You have an ability to peel an onion, layer by layer, tear by tear. I would like you to research the financial overlords. How I would enjoy a critical in depth analysis of their creation, reach, authority, influence, owners, etc. Of course, I would then like your opinions on technology and big pharma. Just saying. 😉
I weep for Bernadette, her bravery, her integrity , her forthrightness,. And as years are sliding by Myself I left Northern Ireland to take my sons to Canada because I could no longer Tolerate the Political situation, and was fortunate to have a settled family in Canada Since the 1920,s Mary Canada 🍁
heard you first in lurgan many years ago ,you seemed to have no self confidence ,then you got up and spoke .I think you were even a step beyond Martin luther king .Then i emigrated to NZ ,many people there especially Maori gave you aroha (love)
Great articulate speaker , her heart was in the right place and she spoke so much sense about injustice, but sadly she is a Markists socialists which is where I would part company with her , its wrapped up in a nice package looks lovely and appealing on the outside but when finally opened proves to be nothing more than a very big let down , Having said that always love listening to her
Queen Elizabeth, the Pope, and the King of Saudi Arabia each owns hundreds of millions of acres around the world.... I'm sure they earned it..... Seriously, wonderful oratory by one of the very few uncompromised and courageous leaders of the last 50 years.
