Question and Answer session chaired by human rights activist Michael Farrell, at the 2nd Seamus Deane Annual Lecture, delivered by Bernadette Devlin McAliskey in the Playhouse, Derry, 30 September 2016.
The lady owned William Buckley in a firing line episode back in the late 60s. She couldn’t have been more than 18. She changed my whole outlook on authority and capitalism
She was nearly 25 at the time, and already a seasoned public figure having been elected to Westminster when she was 20. But that doesn't take from her performance, it was quite exceptional. I've watched that interview a number of times, she was everything; calm, composed when appropriate and strong and forceful when that was called for. Very impressive.
heard you first in lurgan many years ago ,you seemed to have no self confidence ,then you got up and spoke .I think you were even a step beyond Martin luther king .Then i emigrated to NZ ,many people there especially Maori gave you aroha (love)
