I am no longer creating videos for this channel... But shall leave the existing videos available.
I wish to thank everyone who has subscribed and watched and supported.
I am working on a new RU-vid channel showing you how to take stunning images with just a mobile phone, it's called Red Eye Photography, Many of the models seen on The Hi Fi Mechanik will be working with me on this new project, if you are interested the link is below.
Yes you can play your records wet there's nothing wrong in playing your records wet just use deionised water what is a common practice in studios to do this and is very good for recording it
I'm sure but my point is really to prevent water being drawn up the hollow cantilever (capillary action) and it's never a good idea to let it be thrown off the record and onto the live switch area...for health & safety reasons.
Agreed, probably the best solution is a water bottle with a 'fine mist' so the record is not drenched, but some people will not take care and soak the thing 😂@@jedi-mic
I knew a guy who was a salesman for a Swiss motor company. He tried to sell Linn a better motor, but when Tiffenprofit learned that it would be 50p more than the one he used, he said no.
Weld a spindle to a steel bar about 15" long. Use that to jemmy the main bearing housing to correct the off level wrt the sub chassis. Thats what they did in the factory. Not kidding.
Never heard of that, not idea as the stress may damage the lining, the hollow adjustment bar that Linn supplied/recommended slid over the housing to avoid such damage.
I have a LP12 which I no longer use and if I sell it its going to be collection only. Its has a Ittock arm the vertical bearing was sticking in one spot I used some lighter fuel and that cured the problem. It leaves a small deposit of grease behind I purchased the LP12 in 1980 second hand for £300 with the Ittock arm and Linn Valhalar board.
The PU arm should have been packed separately and I would not be surprised the bearing's are damaged and the inner plater as well. That is a very old LP12.
If you close the lid with the motor running and then put your to the lid you can hear the noise from the motor which in turn travels back up the tone arm cable and interferes with the sound quality..
Can the inner platter surface that contacts the belt be cleaned with Brasso or is there a lacquer finish that would get damaged. The Brasso worked wonders on my pulley which I thought was kept clean with isopropyl alcohol. The music sounds very noticeable better after the cleaning with Brasso where I went through several Q-tips before the black went away.
Why does my felt mat cause records to warp? When I remove the mat from the platter records lay flat. But with the felt mat in place- some records appear to spin with slight lip warp. The arm clearly riding up and down. This mostly occurs with 180gram records.
My only thought is that the mat is thicker in certain places, causing the lift You can try placing a large board on top, and place some heavy books or objects, leave overnight, that should flatten it and make it more even, but if no luck, seek out a replacement.
Really, you don’t know how to handle a carbon fiber brush. You move the brush to the center or away from the record latterly. It’s that simple. You don’t just lift it up or take a ride with it. This must be what the call a lost art. 🎉😂
Not only does the Linn sound poorly when improperly set up, it doesn't take much to put them off spec. The Sondek is perhaps the most finicky turntable on the audiophile market
The inner platter should have had something wedged under it for transportation… to stop the bearing point from damaging the surface of the inner bearing
