Wow, those boxed Virtual Boy games are really affordable! Everything else boxed seems to have skyrocketed. Have you played Super Empire Strikes Back? It’s unbelievably hard compared to the first game. Tons of enemies swarming and pushing you into pits, even on easy setting. You have to be an actual Jedi to ever leave Hoth!
Can you please teach us the phrase to use to ask for an item in the display case? I'll be hunting in October and my Japanese is pretty basic/rusty, so I don't want to embarrass myself 😅
14:19 Art of Fighting 2 has a nice SFC port, worth picking up if you ever see it for cheap enough. 15:29 That version of Magical Drop 2 has really come up in price. You can get the SFC or Saturn versions for cheaper, and the Saturn version I'd say is better than the Neo CD version. The SFC version is pretty darned nice as well (yes I have both of these versions). 17:27 Sir, you missed the Japanese at the top of the label, definitely not a PAL variant. 😉 20:09 That Madou Monogatari is really expensive (to the right of Fausse Amor), and the main protagonist, Arle (the girl on the case) is voiced by none other than Sailor Moon's VA, Kitono Mitsuishi. The PC Engine is the only console to have her voice Arle on 3 different games, MM, and both PCE CD Puyo Puyo games (Madou's spinoff series of puzzlers). 21:25 Yes there was, it's prequel was known in America as Kendo Rage. This sequel star's that girl's younger sister. Yeah, those prices are out of control, like people are out of their damned minds. But you can be sure some person, usually someone from western nations, who'd gladly drop their entire savings just to buy these games, thereby insuring prices never go down, and us poorer folks never able to afford said games.
These prices are so much cheaper than I find on eBay. Makes me wish I could pay you for some of these games. Like that Sun Soft game for under $100 USD.
Was there a few weeks ago, bought Rockman FC CIB and Bucky O'hare CIB both in really good condition, cost about $1000. I got my 10% tax rebate though. On my first visit I ran out of money before I saw everything.. just so much stock. Went back a week later with wifes consent to spend on Credit card.
Wow! What a great store! And thanks for the nice tour through Surugaya. Looking forward to part 2. As for interesting items, I was smitten by the loads of dead stock. Would have definitely taken a few of those with me. Also, Top Hunter for the Neo Geo CD looked really fun. Never heard of it, but your footage made it look really cool. The Neo Geo CD still seems relatively affordable, or at least compared to the AES. Upon re-watching the footag I also found Metal Slader Glory Director's Cut for 46,500 Yen. That game looks really interesting and goes for a lot of money online. Still, cool to see here. A very interesting oddity. The selection of Super Famicom and PC Engine games was awesome as well. I especially dig the Japanese artwork for Gain Ground. I only played it on the Sega Genesis and that was very fun to me.
Beautiful flagship store there in Shizuoka, Japan mate! I love the inside where it had so many games & consoles as well! Some the prices where so bloody ridiculous that they should be cheaper! We all aren't billionaires & millionaires here who make a lot of money! Can't wait for Part 2 soon & stay safe in Japan Scruffy! 😀👍🎮
This looks cool, but I think the design would have actually made much more sense if the connector was on the top of the system and the games basically just added to its overall height when attached, if possible. Then it would look like a long Famicom themed Game Boy Color almost. :D
That seems to be the opinion of most folks. It would be cool to make a version like that as well. It basically is just the original mobo cut down slightly. Most likely the designer wasn't willing to go as far to redesign the board for vertical look.
I love good hip hop and that was cool to see that in there, especially with that old Method Man pic. I definitely cracked up at that one! I also like the Contra music with the hip hop ish beat 👍🏻
I had that same dilemma at a retro game convention looking through a bin of cheap Famicom carts, wondering what they were and whether I could play them. Helped a bit when there was some pictures on the label, or maybe a scrap of English, but so many were just kanji text.😄 4:13 Wouldn't mind that one, Rockin' Katz is SO expensive in NES cart form.🤑 Been debating on getting more Famicom carts, actually a lot of places that make affordable tasteful reproductions with English patches, graphical fixes, and gameplay mods. A neat one I saw was that Chinese Famicom FFVII bootleg with bug fixes and a graphical overhaul to make it look more like the PS1 original.
Rockin Katz has gotten up there for the NES for sure famicom is still an affordable option at the moment at least. Yes the reproduction carts are getting quite good i may have to check more of them out. thank for the suggestions.
Nice to see a nudie game that isn't Majong, Poker, or Puzzle based.😁 Reminds me a bit of The Mojon Twins games out of Spain, as they don't mind getting a bit saucy. I'm pretty sure adult gamers will be buying them so no worries.😉 Yeah a bit on the high side of prices, came across Virtual War Zone a Virtual Boy physical homebrew for sale that was also quite pricey. I think given retro market sales constraints you have to offer a cart-only option, as well as a ROM file option for users that employ flash carts as their primary game storage device. Then you have some pricing gradient for an increased customer base, rather than the pitfalls of the limited run model.
Its not too bad it can be a little janky in spots but its actually pretty fun. That is a good point i think i would end up benefiting the developers as well.
Very cool kit, well done.🙂 I like that horizontal version coming up since that is more ergonomic to me. I think a right angle cartridge slot connector would be good to get rid of the sunroof lol, but somebody has to make those first. Had to look up that RGB Blaster, that KRIKzz sure makes some neat things. Looking back it is amazing how few handheld consoles had AV output ports Egs. Nomad, PSP... uh I can't think of any others.🤔
Thank you very much! Yes the kit is really nice. I still prefer the current layout. I feel the horizontal version is too small it doesn't use the original famicom buttons which is part of its charm in my opinion but I know many folks prefer the gba style layout. I agree there should be more handheld with video outs for connecting to a TV as an option. 👍🏻👍🏻✨️
That Retro Game Camp store used to be a couple of houses to the right in a basement shop (I think currently there is some maid cafe down there lol) Somebody working as a composer for video games once told me that place still has some of the original chip-tune development hardware from the Famicom. Not sure if they are allowed to sell this, and what even the point is of them having it lol
Oh yes, the dungeon as they used to call it, unfortunately, it didn't survive the pandemic. It was a cool little shop. I didn't know they had sound development hardware there, but it wouldn't surprise me. Many shops have rare items like that, not for sale, just for history and more like museum like pieces. Did you used to live in Tokyo?
@@ScruffyLookinRGB yeah I thought as much! Hidden treasures everywhere. I am currently living here, but was here in 2019 as well. that's when I visited the "Dungeon"
Nice browse through the shop! I am very much in minority, but I like Wrecking Crew quite a bit! Always thought it was fun knocking down walls with the hammer…!
Bjornh ! it's been a while. Yes man wrecking crew is an awesome game and has really classic cart art 🎨 I love smashing in a good wall here and there too 😀 thanks brother hope you are well
Thanks, I’ve been away from work for the whole month of July, going back to the office tomorrow! It’s been a restful and comfy summer for me. I did buy a handful of games from a cousin, played Power Blade for the first time. Really good action game with sweet Megaman-ish music!
Excellent video! Really nice to know what kind of games these are. Tsuppari Wars 2 is one I’ve never heard of, surprised to see a fighting game so clearly inspired by the Kunio-Kun games! I borrowed the PAL version of NY Nyankies back in the days. I found Rockin Kats to be decent, although not in the same league as the systems best.
Glad I could help! Tsuppari Wars was actually really cool and I'd like to give it some more time especially with 2 players. Rockin cats was one I never heard of really enjoyed as an average or little above average action game
As a Famicom games collector, I can definitely say that "Ai Sensei..."is the rarest cartridge among these games and one of the most wanted for collector. Back in 2018, I saw "Ai Sensei" on the shelf at Surugaya in Kyoto for 7000 Yen and now, it is skyrocketing to 26000 Yen. I regret that I didn't grab it back then.🥺😅
Ai sensei is an interesting one, for sure. It seems like so much has changed since 2018 I remember finding all kinds of really good deals now it's getting harder to find them. Ai sensei's box it pretty interesting too don't you think?
We did get NY Nyankies in the states, it was released as Rockin Kats on NES. It is one of the rarer NES games to own, and often goes for hundreds. The Famicom version you found is vastly cheaper.
I’ve been buying a lot of Famicom games instead of the super expensive US versions. I got Seirei Densetsu Lickle (Little Samson) a few years ago for maybe $100 (now it’s probably over $200) which it’s like $2k or more in the US! I also go for the English friendly exclusives too which can be a lot of fun. Going to be streaming some of these games hopefully in the near future. Great video Scruffy and keep em coming!!
The NY Yankees famicom game on eBay goes for $70-130 USD loose. In NA the game was called Rocking Cats and loose gods for around $250 USD. So $45 look is an amazing price. I’d buy it for that price if possible. Wink. Wink.
Yo that's cool it didn't come up when I searched for the nes version. That's cool just another title that is a better deal here in Japan. For the moment anyways 😃
I'd definitely give Nyankies a try. I'm always game for a platformer with any sort of novel game mechanics. And I'd say the Bionic Commando-esque grapple in a cartoony character platformer qualifies as fairly novel. 🤔 I'd love to see more of these, perhaps even some SuFami games at some point? 😉👍 (After all, there's like a thousand _Japan-exclusive_ SFC titles alone, it's a biiiiig library!)
