Welcome to Look What's In My Hoop! Here I will talk about all things cross stitch and my journey along the way. If you like what you see please feel free to like, subscribe, or comment. Happy Stitching!
What a sweet video.... your daughter is just so cute as are your kitties. You have some delightful stitches, sorry about that waterspot😢 I was wondering if you could tell me where you got the shelf that sits on the wall behind you that you always have decorated so beautifully. Thanks and thank you for your videos! Kathy
@@kathyc2959 Thank you for watching! The shelf I purchased from Pottery Barn over 10 years ago. But, you could try doing a pinterest search for a diy on the shelf. I know I've seen a way too make that shelf from someone on pinterest.
Apparently I lost my comment. I was so excited to see you and your lovely daughter!! Her sweet smile is adorable and I appreciate seeing her crafty fun too! My littles love beads and stitching and crochet so it’s great to see what interests your little ones! You have such beautiful stitches and finishes!! Thank you for sharing! I’d keep working on your water stain and just keep the memories and story. 😊
I would try washing it in that area with cold water and dawn. Also it is a good idea like the other commenter mentioned to watch Deb from Country Stitchers how she purposely stained her fabric. Your projects all look great and you have gotten so much finished and worked on.
I’m so glad to see you on Flosstube! I took a 3 month hiatus from stitching while we worked on a house. I’m trying to catch up the Sampler for All Seasons and Autumn at Hawk Run Hollow. I’m amazed at all your stitching. It looks great!
Thank you! I just love to stitch but I really should focus on just one or two projects! Guess I wouldn't have much to show in a video if I did that though .😂
This is the first time I have seen your video and am just tickled that we share the same taste in patterns!! Although I have not done any of the ones showed, you hit all my favorite designers. About your water stain- I have a story. I searched for a long time for an old prairie schooler design that was special to me because it was a phrase that my dad taught me as a child: Red sky at morning sailor's warning, red sky at night sailor's delight. And of course my dad was a sailor. When I finally found it I thought the colors were magnificent and started it right away. It was smaller than I expected but so what. One day I was stitching outside in lovely weather and my new puppy managed to get it without me knowing and carry it off into the yard. I retrieved it and found it had dirt on it. I tried to wash it off gently but really ended up smudging it. I decided to keep going. When I finished it I dabbed some water in other places which caused a little bit of bleed in the floss and further increased the aging. I left it all and people who saw it thought it was fantastic. When I look at it I see the original puppy activity but also see my Dad, and I love them both. The puppy is now 100lbs. Some day when he is old and gray I will still be able to see the cute little puppy that had to grow into his ears and feet. When he is no longer with me I will treasure it more. Love that red you chose for the house instead of cherry cobbler. It really makes the pattern pop! Instead of ditching the one you no longer want to finish, have you thought about adopting it out? I would be the first taker! I am going to look back at your other videos after I place an order for the patterns you showed that I must have!!
I just love that story... what a great memory and the piece that will alwaya remind you of your dad, and the puppy. So many have suggested "antiquing" the piece, so I might try that.
I have taught her how! A few videos so she showed her little project she worked on. It was so cute! But,, her love of cross stitch is hit or miss right now, lol.
On your Every Opening Flower, co time stitching it on the fabric you have. The cup ring may be barely noticeable by the time you finish stitching that area and the fabric outside of the stitched area may only be barely visible once you get it framed. If there isn’t much stitching in that area, you could stitch family initials and the year you finish it or the year you were married or the years of your children’s births ❤
Erica you can mottle the background fabric of your At Home sampler. I think it's the method Country Sampler uses, dab on the dye/coffee/tea with a little sponge brush or even a Q-Tip. Your stitching is too beautiful to scrap. I was glad to see you pop up in my feed today.
This is the first time I have come across your flosstube, and you are a pleasure to watch. The pieces that you have finished as well as your wips are beautiful. I look forward to seeing your next video. 😃
So enjoyed. I love your daughter's interaction with you. I loved seeing your patience at work.😊 She is adorable and love she is interested in crafts. Don't scrap your piece with the water spot, is family memory of your child's growing up. Life happens, use it as a treasured memory. Hang it on your bedroom wall and give it to her one day. Then stitch it again if you want to.
Don't scrap the stitch, I don't know if you watch Deb Eshman, Country Stitchers but look at their Floss Tubes and there is one were she antiques a sampler as she is stitching. Please try to save it. I don't think you will regret trying.
All your projects are gorgeous. So sad about your every opening flower with water stain. I'm thinking if you don't want to finish it...use the finished part as the front to a fabric bag.❤❤❤
Hello there. New subscriber here. I came over from your Instagram post, about the Seasons Sampler. I want to stitch it also. Are there assignments with the SAL? Who is hosting the SAL?
Hullo Erica Beautiful stitching and finishing. Don’t be too hard on yourself. We are all our harshest critics. I always find when I need to do white stitching Cosmo white really stitches up so nicely.
Hi Erica- Always lovely to stitch with you! Great video- lovely finishes, WIPs and plans! Oh my, Ellen Carr 1843 😍 And yes, Cherry Picker- I have that one in my stash too! Just need to get it out and start-ha. So many good stitches, so little time! Happy stitching!
I would be interested in frogging the white and restitching the With thy Needle piece. Love your finishes! I’m like you, I have enough patterns so I don’t need to buy more but there’s always a few that catches your eye. Happy stitching!
I did a Brenda Gervais...brr...its cold outside on 36 count vintage country mocha and white thread looked horrible. I changed to a sulky 12 wt petite white (on a spool) thread. The 12 wt acts more like 1 1/2 thread...its gorgeous! I've ordered the 4 season patterns you have and ill definitely use this thread for the snow.❤. I love the barn calendar too because of the border...its similar to the seasons brenda gevais border😂. I can't wait to see yours with saltbox in them!❤. Love your channel and hearing about your daughters rescue horse...❤❤❤
Hi Erica, I’m always excited to see a new post by you. I love your gentle ways with your daughters. Don’t sell yourself short on your finishes. They are marvelous. The stand with the pillow hanging from it is genius! And, you did the right thing when finished the piece on the sled by trying different things before deciding what you like. I hope finishing becomes more pleasurable for you. I have learned to love it! On the Seasons piece that you would like to change the red on, it looks like all of your colors are cool colors and cherry cobbler looks like a warm color. I’ve been watching ColoradoCrossStitcher on RU-vid and she has done a couple of tutorials on colors. She is also my LNS. I looked through my stash & Weeks Dye Works Turkish Red seems a little cooler. Just a thought. I do think a brighter red is a good idea. Finally, that orange fabric is beautiful. You might want to see if you could convert one of the pieces you want to stitch to blacks, greys & cream. I agree, white is hard to stitch with. Do you have an LNS, or do you have to order on line? If you have a LNS, they might be able to help you. Keep up the good work!
Hi Erica! As far as I know these are all the Threadworks Beggars charts- I don't believe it was a monthly series. I like the Drawn Thread piece or Midnight Watch for your gold fabric. I love that piece where you hate your white stitches! Please don't throw it away...I will finish stitching it if you don't want it, it is gorgeous on that Saltbush!!!
Thank you for your sweet comments. If I do give away the piece I will let you know. I really love that pattern. And thank you for the info on the beggars charts. I swear I reached the end of the internet and couldn't find anything!
Nicola Parkman (from Hands Across The Sea Samplers) did a flosstube - Nicola's Tips & Tricks ~ Stretching and Lacing a Sampler (Flosstube #NT02) which helped me with my framing.
Your stitching is great. I don’t enjoy finishing either - I would rather stitch! Would you consider stitching a button on the front and back of your biscornu? and pull them together tight. I think that would change up the shape for you.
Your finished pieces are beautiful! You mentioned looking for a tutorial on lacing/framing - I follow Lori Holt's lacing tutorial on her RU-vid Channel. She's thorough and makes it a breeze to understand. I'm the one who recommended the Pumpkin Pie stitch - I'm almost finished with mine - goal is to have it FFO'd by Fall. The snowman on the Prairie Schooler piece - maybe try stitching the white with two threads. I'm doing this on a piece I'm currently working on where I'm using one thread on everything except for the white and I really like how it's looking. Anchor makes a white thread that stands out - I have a skein of it and will be trying it on a new start. ☺
Hi Brandi! I remembered it was you that recommended the pie pattern but I can't remember who designed it for the life of me! I just need to pull it out and finish it. You will have to send me I pic when you get yours finished! Thanks for watching my videos and always commenting. I appreciate it so much. ❤
@@lookwhatsinmyhoop I get caught off guard with remembering things like that off the cuff too! I had to look it up just now - The Primitive Hare ☺. I'm thinking of finishing mine in a vintage black frame - we'll see how it shakes out.
Red sampler. On the one you don’t want to finish as your stitching is too close together, I think some motifs in that area below is a very good idea. I never frog if I can figure out an alternative.
I’m not an overdying expert, but I recently heard that using tea will dye reddish. So I would cut off a small piece of fabric and use coffee. Red sampler
Wow Erica! I want to channel you so I can get FFOs done too. I would much rather stitch than finish. All your current WIPS are lovely. I’m stitching the Spring WTNT pattern that is part of a 4 season Series and I’ve already changed a few things. Just move forward with the words that way you don’t have to take time to frog out anything. I tend to modify most of my WIPs , some by choice and others by accident. Happy spring stitching!
Thank you for watching! I love the Sampler seasons by WTNT but the white on the winter one is killing me! I think I'm going to do the summer or the fall one next. I will love it when they are all done and grouped together though.
Erica, I am so glad that you found my suggestion of the bobbin box to be helpful. Your projects are coming along nicely. Thanks for sharing. Happy stitching. Best, K
Your finishes are great! I love that you picked In the Pink for the BG bunny basket. I am also planning on using that, so I am glad to see how pretty it looks on that fabric. It’s a beautiful muted pink. Regarding your error on Heart & Hand, could you maybe do a line with 2-3 x”s, skipping 2-3 x’s until its filled. Or something simple to fill up the space? Good luck!!
Thank you for watching! She is seriously the sweetest kitten. But she has been getting into some shenanigans this past week. I think she has spring fever!
Your finishes are beautiful. For a beginner your quilt is beautiful. Keep on quilting you will get better. Don’t frog out all the words keep moving forward. Your idea for adding the little hearts should work. I love how you look at a pattern and make it your own by changing pieces of it. I do that, too. Have wonderful birthdays with your girls!
Thank you fur your kind words. I was looking at some free quilt patterns this morning actually.. there is a pinwheel one I might try. Not sure how tricky those are though, but it is so pretty.
My thoughts when I mess up... is it easy to correct, if not, then fudge... when I say easy, I mean am I taking out the stitches that I have just done. If there are any stitches that were put in afterwards that are touching it, then fudge... I liked the comment below that said if you can't see the mistake from a galloping horse... About your fabric... same thing happened with Be Stitch Me fabric this month... color of cantaloupe... my first thought is eww... what to do with it... I'm going to dye it a better color... maybe a darker orange & stitch something Halloween themed... thought of coffee dying... to make it more vintage...
