Great summary thoughts on a great car! I have a ‘98 in Estoril Blue with the black & blue interior and only 42k miles. I think that aside from the Z8 these cars have the best retro/modern interior of any modern BMW convertible. The exterior and overall size and weight of the car are spot on and this and the E46 are the last best examples of analog BMW driver’s cars. So glad I got one!
I’ll just go ahead and totally agree with you with the exception of the m2 competition which if you see my other videos i have owned and fell completely in love with from a drivers car perspective. Thanks for sharing your comment and thoughts. Enjoy your Roadster.
Hello, fellow Canadian (Toronto) here. You mentioned you bought the center console directly from BMW. Do you have a link or provide more info. I need to get one for my 2000 M Roadster
great talk about a great car, I bet that drive up from SC (where the car was made in America) was a fun one! Im in SC and I have the same one as you, they are getting more and more hard to find in decent condition.
Hey there, thank you for your message. I actually flew down into Jacksonville and used a rental to get me to SC. Picked up the 1989 1.9L and drove over to a hotel. When i went to sleep the car was red. Woke up it was green from all the pollen lol 😆 The drive back was relaxing I stopped in a few places including Washington. Congrats on your car. Hope you enjoy it in good health always.
Yeah that pollen is not fun in march-may haha. @@3CarOneGarage Glad you had a nice trip! Im taking a short trip with my car here soon. Best of wishes and good health to you and your ///M
Hey, DCTI mainly drive manuals but wanted a dct in this car. Because I use the paddles 99% of the time i find it’s extremely fun to be able to keep my hands on the wheel and downshift quickly when I need to.
Thanks for watching it was hard to make this as my first video. Hopefully will have better luck with future ones :) Good luck with the build. Take your time and hopefully you pick all the right stuff for you. Follow your gut there is a lot of miss information or opinions that might not be the right fit for you. Thanks again for watching, I have another one that is a bit of a deaper dive into the bits :)
Nice build. Gonna be honest with you as my F87 is heavily modded at this point on a few things, the comment about coils because you left them at the default setting, the harshness of coils is more prevalent compared to stock. The stock suspension unsettles the car too much as I went Ohlins and they made a night and day difference. Coils are night and day difference in terms of handling, best mod for the F8x chassis. I disagree with the EL pipe sounding "16 year old", that I leave to the pops and burbles that I had tuned out. The raspiness you're referring to is because the coming out of the twin turbos going to the mid pipe they aren't equal length so you're hearing the exults of one turbo and then the other following it. I have Active DP, EL mids and their cat back and in the high RPMs it actually makes the S55 sound good. The mid pipe is what sorts out the rasp without having to go single turbo. It is ironic you said you didn't want to butcher it but you had to cut from the mid back to get the Remus on.
Hey thank you for the feedback, The M2 that I heard with the EL mid pipe was extremely loud and I think for the average person it would not be a great option, i find it interesting that you tuned out the pops and burbles maybe that is the trick thanks for the tip. Good point on the coilover settings I think with the thicker sway bars and the lower height setting and more moderate coilover setting maybe I found the sweet spot for me however I will admit that I might actually sort out the settings and go a little stiffer for next summer :) As for the butchering of the car, I see your point of view, however, the work that was done on my car was done by a race car fabrication specialist and the quality of the work and precision left me feeling extreamly pleased with the installation. having deleted resonators before I almost know that the outcome will be louder pops since usually they would be softened by the resonator. So leaving that on for me meant I can have loud exhaust with the burbles and not have to delete them. Thanks for the comment, even though I feel your disagreement it's appreciated and we can all learn from each other. your car sound sweet btw.
@@3CarOneGarage appreciate the response and yeah, wasn't trying to be negative in anyway as I've been down the rabbit hole with the S55 to love and appreciate its beauty and flaws. Once you do find that sweet spot next summer with the coils its really going to make you appreciate the setup even more :) Agreed with leaving the resonators and thats a big thing with even EL mids, I can't stand it without the res. Doesn't sound refined in my opinion. Looking forward to more awesome content!
I had the 1.9 it’s a lot of fun. If you’re looking to save a bit and want to go for a 1.9 don’t worry. These are tinny cars. You will have fun regardless. But if budget is not an issue 3.2 with wide body looks sexy. ;)
Thank you 😊 hopefully the link will work. The link show 2 tips but we need 4. Let me know if it does not work i can link it in the description. gbpperformance.ca/en/exhaust-tip/1854884-remus-4-angled-carbon-titanium-tail-pipe-set-2.html?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAsburBhCIARIsAExmsu61n7paRF-2cv3cp1eTVdtir6vAf8z5DdcD1KMUmL_ZKXewkUcmXEwaAnZVEALw_wcB
@@3CarOneGarage I have the exact same model. Seeing your car makes me want to do the roof and powder coating the wheels to gold like yours. I have the black 763M wheels right now. My car is in winter storage.
I have the black ones on now. I love them. Keep them black in my opinion. It always puts a smile on my face to see them on. But do the roof for sure. Use STEK dyno carbon if you can. An avoid doing it yourself if possible you will most likely dent the roof. I paid 600 to remove all the dents from mine.
hey, Hope all is well! I actually shot a few nice exhaust clips in 32bit Audio with a mic over the rear bumper and one in the engine bay. I'm just missing a good intro will ping you once it's up.
You are right modifications can be expensive. However, it’s part of the hobby every car enthusiast over time likes to personalize the car to their taste and driving style. I quite enjoy doing this and I’ve done the same on my porsche Carrera 4s in the past. Check out my insta Billo003 for photos. Thanks..
Having owned a GT4, its long gearing and subdued driving at slow speeds makes the M2 CS a more appealing daily- with the GT4 being at home on the track and backroads. I sure miss the GT4 though
Hey! The roof is a PFF product by STEK. They make excellent realistic Carbon Fieber PPF. The reason why it looks like Carbon is because it's made of multiple layers with the carbon-like layer in the middle and a clear layer on the top. The result looks really nice. and don't need to rip off the roof of the car :D here's a link if you're interested: www.stek-usa.com/fashion-film/dynocarbon/dynocarbon-clear/
Brother you don't unlock the top rings then U can turn the coilover down by turning the top ring which will turn the thread down or turning up on the middle ring which will turn the thread out of the base.
Hi Adam, thanks for the comment, The top ring does not adjust hieght as it does on my KW v3 the only way to adjust hieght on this one is the bottom ring and due to maybe the age of the coilover it was siezed so was not able to move it. I ended up just removing the coilovers and putting back OEM Mini JCW suspension kit. The car handles a lot better now and the ride is not as harsh.
@@3CarOneGarage no no no I worded it wrong sorry. You use the spring preload locking rings locked together to spin the thread into or out of the base. Otherwise if you losen all the rings you have nothing to hold the shaft to spin it like U found.
Thanks Adam I tried that to at the time. I sold those coilovers and looking for a new set. I'm wondering if Air suspension would be a smart thing to do this was I can lift it whenever I want for speedbumps etc.. or just stick with a good set of coilovers. Will post some more vids for progress :)
@bilalh5979 air suspensions will be good for you if you want that stance look or just drastically mod the cars height on the fly. I have than hsd set. Are they harsh? Yah. They're meant for the track, not rly street. I don't mind the stiffness. All in the preference of the individual.
Quick update spent six hours yesterday night swapping out these coil overs put the original used but in decent condition John Cooper Works package back on struts and springs. Now sits a little bit lower looks amazing and the drive is beautiful. It’s solid, but not annoying. the right way to upgrade the suspension on these cars especially if you have lowering springs and shocks is not to get super stiff coil overs go invest in some really good sway bars maybe some wheels with a slightly wider offset and enjoy you’ll have a little truck monster.
BTW, my honest review if you are thinking about buying a set of these just don't they ride so hard on the softest setting the car most likey fell appart because of these, the previous owner changes every drive train joint rod etc. and inside the car pannels all loose it's pretty serious discomfort at the softest setting. I would never recond these for anything other than ... we nothing really. this might be a good set if you go for the softest spring. my guess is that might make it worth the 1000$. Comparing this to the original JCW suspension JCW suspension is stiff but this is like 10 times more. JCW was perfect I tracked the same car with the JCW before if you see my channel it's my older Comp Edition Mini and this is a newer comp edition mini also I had number 39 of 64 before then just bought this nuber 35/64.
Unfortunately not. one of the engineers of the car at the time was doing a tour of dealerships and he was able to go into the computer of the car and analyze cached data, but even that was not telling. Luckily, the service manager is an ex car fanatic came up with the idea to swap the throttlebody with an existing car that they had on the showroom floor, I remember this took almost 3 or four weeks of diagnostics to fix
Such a beautiful bike man - thanks for sharing! If money (and garage space) were not limiting, I'd have an R-NineT sitting right beside my Harley in the garage. Love it!
