@@jakejones3921 No, it doesn't have a 6th gear. It's a wide ratio 5 speed that works better on the highway though

@@g2wheels010 I think it will backfire less if you rejet your carb/give it more fuel. If you take a look at the forums you will see that the dr650 is pretty lean from the factory, and when you add an aftermarket exhaust/desnorkel you are giving it more air/making it run more lean. Google says backfiring can be caused by a lean or rich ratio.

Could very well be rich. I usually run my carbs a little rich for pops

I know this is old but the popping comes from the slide dropping back down and the pilot jet being re-engaged. The pilot jet is too lean for the engine rpm causing the popping. It's just a feature of the bst40 CV carburator. If you set your idle higher than normal you won't have the popping but it will be running fast at idle.

Quote from the "fantastic starting bike" definition: "...and one you are not afraid to drop a few times." :D My original plan was to buy a CBF250. That bike... a tool, you won't fell in love with it, you will not be afraid to scratch it here and there. Then I faced a VTR250 at the riding school. Asked dafuq it is. They told me: "It has been sold in the country only for 2 years. It's used price is double than the CBF. And if someone has one, she or he won't sell it because it is unbreakable. So good luck." Next week two has hit the country's main used bike homepage, one of them is practically in mint condition. Now I have a bike which is not a tool but a beauty, a good reason to be afraid to drop. But whatever, not a perfect starting bike but a perfect one to have forever.

From someone who rides Zx6r, this bike is more than capable of you live in urban area/mountain range! Quite Vibey on highway but it'll cruise just fine at 100-110km/h. Smooth powerline too, I'd love to get one

The sound is very good but the best engine performance you will get is with the stock exhaust, at least in this bike. i have a 2004 model not efi and i dont not try other exhaust but i talk with many people who have done it and that is what they say

Yep, unless you don't mind tinkering with the carby, then stock performance is tad bit better. Any exhaust mod on a carb model needs a slight tinker on fuel/air mixture. This one's an 02 hahaha
