I thought backfiring was being too rich? It's a stock needle with desnorkle and tk-p slip on

@@g2wheels010 I think it will backfire less if you rejet your carb/give it more fuel. If you take a look at the forums you will see that the dr650 is pretty lean from the factory, and when you add an aftermarket exhaust/desnorkel you are giving it more air/making it run more lean. Google says backfiring can be caused by a lean or rich ratio.

Could very well be rich. I usually run my carbs a little rich for pops

I know this is old but the popping comes from the slide dropping back down and the pilot jet being re-engaged. The pilot jet is too lean for the engine rpm causing the popping. It's just a feature of the bst40 CV carburator. If you set your idle higher than normal you won't have the popping but it will be running fast at idle.

@@jakejones3921 No, it doesn't have a 6th gear. It's a wide ratio 5 speed that works better on the highway though

1km above sea level, up in the mountains.

All DRs have decl pop. Especially when you open them up with airbox mod a header pipe/ muffler.

@@kugangles9860 yep, rejet, straight pipe, and airbox mod. had to run rich on sea level, definitely too lean on 1km above
