Videos of life on my 90 acre property in the mountains of southeastern USA. Sawmill, time in the woods, building...come along as I begin to explore life on my new place in a new chapter.
Find an outdoor power equipment dealer, and ask them for the least aggressive chain that they’ve got and have it custom fit. Some of the older shops still make custom chains.
Do you still like your easy boardwalk 40 and do you have any thoughts or downsides about it? Also, can you tell me what kind of jacks you used and are they stable enough? I feel like the drop-down that the manufacturer gives you wouldn’t be very satisfactory.
Hey there! The EZ Boardwalk 40 is a fabulous mill. If you are going to get a manual mill it is probably the best one out on the market. I used jacks I ordered off Amazon for the extension, I think they were 5,000 lb jacks? For the main part of the mill I used some from harbor freight and they are same rating. Both work great and are very stable. I am super pleased with it. You can't go wrong with the EZ Boardwalk 40. If you haven't seen it yet, go check out the full review I did here on my channel doing a walk through on the mill. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
This is a great kind of review because you seem like a real guy who really uses the thing, talking about your actual experience with it. As some have pointed out, you don't know the longevity of it, but it's an actual functioning piece of equipment that you're telling us about and it's appreciated.
Great build, I’m slowly converting a smaller boat trailer to a utility probably about a 5’x 8’ haven’t measured yet. Have to cut the 3x3 metal square tubing shorter where the front is. Lol when I hook it up it goes so fare back way to long. Was probably for a long light boat. I wish I would have watched your video first though. I like that you went out past the wheels to give a bit extra space. I’m working on a budget build for it so it’s taking a while with the cost of wood. Keep up the great work
Looking at this for an upcoming project. Question what about replacing the chain with a better quality chain, or sharpening? With my chainsaw with a sharp sharp chain I get very little tear out.
Hi!!! Looking at booking a trip to Looe Key this week and saw that your video is from 2 weeks ago! Are most of your pictures and videos from snorkeling at the surface or did you have to dive down to see things? I’m worried it’s too deep for us. Thank you!
We only snorkeled at Looe Key- no diving gear beyond going below the surface with a snorkel, mask, and fins. Looe Key is genuinely amazing and a true highlight!! The first day we went the water was even more clear and it was sunnier- I just didn't have my GoPro with me that day. It's a beautiful, beautiful place and feels like you are swimming in an aquarium.
I've seen nearly all the band saw mills on You Tube even DIY mills and there is something about an ez board walk 40 that makes it the mill in it's class that I would choose. The only thing that concerns me is breathing all the discharge dust. A respirator could solve that. That dust is extremely dangerous long and short term.
Quick question: I’m planning on hollowing out a tree stump and use it as a planter. Do you think this would work to cut the inside perimeter? Then I’d have to use other tools to chisel out the core.
that looks like a pretty nice setup. I got the prazi one on my makita 71/4 like 25 years ago and worked good. I want to try one on my 36v makita rear handle saw so i can work with out the cord. Good video, thanks!
It was a monolithic pour on the slab whereby the corners and middle post locations were dug out 24" square as a footing for the posts. Thanks for watching!
good question! I am genuinely not sure. They are the tires that come with the mill from the manufacturer. I was on the interstate for a little bit...maybe an hour or so doing 65-75mph without issue. Rest of the drive was backroads at 55MPH or so. I had no issue either way. I know that the manufacturer drives them across the US with these tires on the interstate without issue. I don't think they have a speed limit on the tires like some other manufacturers have on their mills. It pulled very smooth behind my full size pick up. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Got some good info from your site and others. I'm picking up my EZ Boardwalk 40 Saturday in Missouri and driving it back to Ohio. I know they deliver them that way but I thought I'd ask someone who hauled one.
@@50AcresofAcers congratulations! The EZ Boardwalk 40 is a great mill...I'd go so far as to say it is the best manual mill to be had on the market. Safe travels with your new mill and congratulations again!
You must have gotten the wrong directions to install. My install had no issues as everything worked perfectly, after following the directions which you may have ignored 😮.
Bought one of these a week ago with the intention of making mantles and trimming thicker slabs. In your opinion, could a slightly longer blade and chain be put on this? Thanks for the video.
Possibly? It would take some fabrication/alteration to accomplish it. I’d be worried about increased flex/wander in the blade and quality of cut diminished? Personally I’d be hesitant to extend one but would be interesting to see that done.
Looks good! 👍 I'm in the planning stages to do the same with my old trailer. My hope is to use the metal C frame of the trailer to put a bunch of 2x stringers across. Then, run my deck lengthwise. If that doesn't work, then I'm definitely going with your design.
nice! I wasn't sure how I'd attach 2X stringers to the metal frame so I went with this design. Made it up as I went along but it worked out pretty good! I've been using it quite a bit hauling lumber, etc.
I bought one of these, a different name brand but they're all identical other than the paint job. I cut many treated rough cut 8 x 8 post both square cut and on a 45 degree angle and the cuts were pretty accurate. well worth the money as it saved me tons of labor by cutting the beam in one cut.
@@homeplaceadventures I have a Deutz-Fahr 5080D cab tractor. I think it is a bit over 9 feet tall. Overall width is a bit over 70" but I have my wheels set wide so mine is a good bit wider. Your bridge is looking sweet.
@@enwinn My ceiling height is 8.5' tall so unfortunately should you bring your tractor to my place I think you'd have to park on the river bank. :D I built it to fit my TYM 474 and also looked at the specs of like the Kubota MX5200 in case I end up getting a slightly bigger tractor at some point but the 474 really is a great tractor for my use and property...smaller frame makes it easy to get around in the woods and big enough to handle the logs on my sawmill. Thanks for watching!
Man it would look good if the ridge board you put up if you put a chunky piece of wood to hold it up. More decorative than anything. But you might be going to close it in also so it wouldn’t matter
The temporary supports I used to put up the ridgeboard are being replaced...purely there to help hold it in place while I did the rafters. Saying that...unlike the post and beam pavilion I built this past fall, I am intentionally milling the lumber for this build to be 2x material so as to save weight on the bridge. But I love your idea!! Thanks for watching.
One thing I like about this attachment is the ability to take it on and off easily and quickly. If I just burned a hole in the fork and mounted a ball on it directly it would be more set up time as I couldn’t leave it on full time as it would get in the way as I move logs, etc.
I have the same tractor, that’s why I followed you. I like your videos and how you edit/ narrate them. Don’t take this the wrong way, (just a little constructive criticism) I think your wide angle is too wide. The fish eye throws it off for me. Glad I found the channel, can’t wait to see more tractor videos!
Hey thanks so much for the feedback! It is appreciated. Thus far I am filming with my GoPro. I've been toying with getting a land based video camera for stuff around the farm. Wide angle setting on the GoPro does add a fish eye effect...I may plat with the settings in the meantime. Thanks though and thanks for watching!!
I'm impressed that's a nice machine I got a Woodland Mills HM126 It works good I mean I bent it once And I see channeled it just like that is But again I like the machine so stay safe my friend and we'll catch on another one I'm a new sub Have a good day
I really enjoyed my 126 and like woodland mills. Saying that I sure am liking my EZ Boardwalk. The cut quality is fabulous. Thanks for watching and for the sub! I just checked out your channel and subbed as well. Thanks for watching!
Have you had the chance to use an EZ Boardwalk mill before? Some things don’t come through in video. Certainly there are way more expensive and complex mills out there with full hydraulics etc. But for a manual mill, this one is certainly up there with the best in its class. Nothing again Woodland Mills as they are a fabulous company with a great product but this EZ Boardwalk is solidly built. But there are certainly bigger and more complex/full featured mills out there for sure. Either way thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching!
It’s a really solid mill and I’m excited to have it! First time I milled a log with my friends EZ Boardwalk 40 before I bought mine I was instantly impressed!! Thanks for watching!
Blade lube update: Turns out the line was clogged with mud and ball valve was cracked, most likely from freezing previous to my buying it. $10 for a new ball valve and about 10-15 minutes of time and it was all fixed. Love that these parts are so simple and readily available.
