This video is so detailed and so helpful!! Im new to AKC events, bringing my pup to his first FastCAT/Rally in a couple of weeks. Very excited. Question! He is obsessed with playing fetch and I only use ChuckIt ball or frisbee when playing outdoor. Adding to that I taught him automatic leave-it including food on the floor or squirrels etc. How would you introduce him to chasing plastic bags? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Fantastic exercise. We use plastic bottles for can curtains (PSA SPORT) it gets the acquainted with noise, odd textures, and being a little uncomfortable at first
I'm having real trouble removing the excess. When I wipe with the back of the spoon the PB mixture coats it, so the next wipe I do does nothing. I even tried a spatula and the same thing happened. Any tips? Thank you so much
@@CanineCountryAcademy I made it with both less and more water and had the same problem both times. Another problem I'm having is after 30 minutes the treats are still soft.
@@CanineCountryAcademy Thanks for your help. They were just sticky with less water and the PB stuck to the spoon and then with more water the PB was all over the outside of the mold
I can’t get my rescue dog to put her whole body in it even with treats. It takes a while to get her to put her front legs in. She paces and paws at it and it’s like she has a brain block over it. I’ve been working with her for a week and no progress. We’ve had her for two months and just started with the crate training. I have it taken apart and we’re just working with the bottom of the crate. How do I get her to get all the way in the crate and feel safe?
Good job taking the crate apart! Be sure to go at her pace before doing more. I would build a little duration and some relaxing on/in the bottom before adding the top. What kind of kennel are you using? It may take time, but you sound committed to helping this darling.
My Sasha is only 9 months old, she can run. She out runs the other dogs, at the park. Where would I start with this? New Sub!!!...:) my dog is very muscular, she's a full blood American pitbull Terrior.
@lisamb4269 so fun! I would start with conditioning your dog to prepare for Fast Cat. You can work with a Canine PT to assess your dog at 1 year old and earlier for input on appropriate exercises. Id also play games with a tail teaser for more drive games. Thanks for subscribing! I am happy to answer additional questions.
@@CanineCountryAcademy Thank you ma'am!!! my babygirl can run. She has her own RU-vid and tiktok channel. I'm going to have to do some digging around for my city. Thank you again...:)
Dont EVER give dogs peanut Butter. Use almond butter instead. And organic. MAKE SURE there’s no PALM OIL in it. I can’t stress enough how toxic and GI upsetting palm oil is for dogs. Omg the horror stories my dog has had and others I know. Causes pancreatitis. Major problems.
@kblongespee9225 thank you for your input and personal explanation. Yes, do what's best for your dogs. Many dogs do well with small amounts of peanut butter.
@sophias1670 Congratulations on the new pup! In addition to their weight, you'll want to consider their height and length, too. I ended up using a small for my Toy Fox Terrier puppy until she was bigger, and now at 12.5 inches and 10 lbs, she's in the midsized.
Awesome! I just purchased one of these for my GSD/Siberian Husky boy and am excited to get him working on it! He haaates having his paws messed with at all. We've worked on him with it, but we adopted him from a shelter and knew he was badly neglected/abused and just getting him comfortable to be around us has taken a long time. Earlier this year he caught one of his too long nails on something on the park and ripped it. We took him to the vet and $600+ later, he was all patched up and had trimmed nails again, but man, those suckers grew out so fast! He's also so smart and has gotten bored with the many tricks he has already mastered so this will be great, i think!
Thanks so much for the detailed video! I'm going to our first fun run in a few weeks with my whippet, very excited but also a little bit anxious because I've never been to an event like that.
Hello! Planning to try FCAT with my dog this fall. Is the catcher allowed to motivate your dog by praising the dog while running or is the dog strictly expected to chase after the plastic bag? We love doing recall games and I usually motivate my dog to run faster by saying "Good boy!" "Come on!" and I was wondering if that was allowed! Also how do you acquire points? Is it the time your dog spent running? Thank you so much this was very informational.
Sorry I missed your comment and questions. They can verbally encourage, but not a recall. Some dogs do better without anyone yelling. You'll want to see what your dog prefers. To calculate points: 204.545 divided by the dogs run time then multiplied by the handicap I keep a spreadsheet to know if we are close to a title, too.
Where are the videos on hind end awareness. Wonder loves his scratch board for front paws but cant figure out back. Hes blind and hes a great dane. Also where is that board from?
