If Nier Reincarnation was still around I wish there was an Elden Ring crossover. The ER weapons alone would be cool to see. Also a Messmer costume and spear and costume for Noel.

Thank you for this video. It's sad many people didn't give Reincarnation any love, just because it's a mobile gacha game. I also always had my bias towards these, but I was willing to give Nier Reincarnation a try, because it was a Nier game. (also leading me to play SINoALICE). I remember being at the Nier Concert in Berlin this year and waiting in "line" at the merch stand. One of the other was asking his companion, who this is supposed to be with the blue hair, talking about a cosplayer. She was cosplaying Celebratory Saryu. It's not like we Nier fans have many things to play or watch, so it kinda hurts when people just discard an, in my opinion, essential part of the story/universe. On the other hand it can't be helped. Just like you mentioned, this was an experience for a small club. This experience and characters are our very own treasures. I am looking forward to the upcoming artbook and the new stories contained.
I'm glad I stuck with it all the way through to the end, despite it's nature as a mobile game. My first and probably last mobile game I'll ever play, there not usually my thing. But I feel I should play it as a Nier fan, otherwise I would regret missing out. Great video content, It's interesting and insightful.
@@cabbagechannel7874 i already made a blanket statement. cry about it all you want. besides many people share my opinion. all gacha games are garbage made for the lowest form of scum.
Doubling down on the blanket statements, I see. You seem unaware of what that means, how it doesn’t move me or my viewers at all, and why it reflects poorly on you. I find it fascinating that of all the mobile games you could have made these statements, you chose the one that is least like the standard. You realize this is Nier Reincarnation we are talking about?
Thank you for this! Always loved your coverage of this game, as well as your broader industry angle, and hope there's still some videos planned for the future. Playing this truly felt like being among a special chosen few. And not even playing it, but being able to enjoy it. I tried to put people onto it and understand it wasn't for everyone, but for those of us who got it, it was incredible. It's definitely the game in the series I played and explored the most.
First of all, I really enjoy the extra insight into the japanese mobile gaming trends as well as how Nier reincarnation ran counter to a lot of the successful trends both intentionally and unintentionally. but I'm also glad that we both came to the same conclusion that this game seemed to be running on a "fixed lifespan" from the beginning. The fact that it focused on story and not the usual biggest selling point of having loads of aesthetically attractive characters is what really got me into Nier Reincarnation, which is also why Nier Reincarnation will be the only mobile game I will ever play since that's what I'm into. but I'm also aware that the focus on story and some character designs that weren't typical of a mobile gatcha wouldn't really have the mass appeal needed for a mobile game to thrive, and of course the producers would know that too, so it makes sense that it was planned as a limited stint to tell a story rather than something long-term. However it still had that flexibility that if it managed to make more money it could possibly extend the characters and story, as seen in the "sun and moon" arc, which i also agree wasn't necessary to tell Reincarnation's story, but was still a nice addition. which kind of presents an interesting question. How long do you think NIer reincarnation would go if it was more successful? Do you think we would've gotten another arc of characters? or simply more exploration for the characters established? OR do you think they would've stuck to their original plans regardless of how much they made? i just wonder how far Nier reincarnation would've stretched, because as much as I love the finale of Nier reincarnation i do feel that some of the characters didn't have the most satisfying ending and wonder if there was just a little bit more planned after all outside of missing costumes.
If I'm to guess, an extended lifespand would have been used to flesh out the characters more if Nier Rein was more successful. Though since we are not there, we instead got the art book. It's interesting because iirc Yoko Taro has produced works that fleshed out existing elements outside of the game before, though I guess for NieR Rein it would have been in-game expansions. Though with the concept that Nier Rein had a fixed lifespan, it is perhaps likely that maybe the characters were meant to be taken as is with whatever extensions they have and actual success simply meant they get fleshed out more.
I have always enjoyed your videos regarding this game despite my dropping out shortly after A2s original release. Well-made video, and I appreciate understanding what happened. I didn't even know it shut down because I, too, got out of mobile gaming. Cheers, Cabbage!
Reincarnation really is a special game, and you're right, there probably won't be another one like it sadly. I played until shut down, I wish I had a digital copy of my own to play it again, if they did release some kind of digital copy somehow I would buy it in a heartbeat lol. I had every Akeha costume, Divine and Festive were some of my favorites. I loved the video and I appreciate all your coverage!
Nier Reincarnation really dropped some HUGE lore bombs and it’s a fricken shame that it’s all gone now… Like for example I doubt anyone was expecting to get a glimpse of the Legion taking over Japan as white chlorination syndrome tore through the world. Those side stories were probably my favorite out of all of them. Then you have the ending of the main story that acts as a story end to Reincarnation but also as a final chapter to both Replicant AND Automata. My hope is that the ending of this story was actually setting up their next main line title because it certainly ended in a way that it could continue on
thank you so much for the insightful video! as someone who tried the game at jp launch and came back to it later after monetization was turned off to read the story, it seemed like 1st and 3rd years were planned as caps to the story, and everything in between would be added depending on how well the game was doing (probably with adjustments to the people and the world arc as needed). the last arc was really good and we likely wouldnt have gotten it until the game shutdown, so its hard to see the game shutting down as a sad thing. I do wonder how long in advance theyd plan out which arc to do each year and start building assets for it though...
Agreed on the sandwiching! Typically mobile games are in production for a couple years and at least the first year of service is planned out. I heard the director say that the Sun/Moon arc was planned before launch but I really wonder how much. My guess is with the success of the release they really started on Sun/Moon after then
Can I just also mention, especially regarding Priyet, but also some of the other characters as well: Priyet is a truly queer character, which in *any* game market is a bit of an anomaly, but she is treated with such humanity and matter-of-fact acceptance that it's really quite remarkable. As much as it's a bit of a meme how typically horny Yoko Taro is, his ability to write queer characters and sexuality is really kind of amazing. And I am saying this as a straight white male, just to be clear.
These cultural insights are very interesting This clearly is a continuation of Yoko-san's saga of spite for Square's business models He wasnt joking when he said he makes "weird games for weird people"
There's still lots of videos coming up with compilations of the story and even translation to spanish, it seems lots of people have recorded tons of footage from this game. I think they should have left the game locked on a stand alone, offline perpetual loop after the shut down, so people could keep it to remember and see the story again or take some pictures in 3D viewer sometimes...

Also, i have also heard the game was balanced around summons, and I actually think it's even moreso the case with the DLC. Not because they're harder, but because they actually switch more between you and the summons. I felt in the base game, sometimes the summons would aggro the boss too much and it was easier for you to stand around. But that's obviously anecdotal evidence. I do think they have balanced in general with summons in mind and some older players have not enjoyed that.
I noticed the shifting mid-combo as well. Also I think most (or all?) the bosses have AOEs or big sweeping attacks that can hit their sides or even their rear. And just yesterday every summon got buffs like more poise or HP. All this also makes me think the bosses were designed with summons in mind.
I was watching a criticism of the DLC and, though I don't think anything is beyond criticism, it's funny to think about how impressive it is that you could make an hour-long video criticizing DLC. They were so gracious with this and the majority of people's experience has been overwhelmingly positive--it just makes me laugh a little. To that end, I love how you framed your point on the scadutree fragments where you say that it's a decent solution "to a problem with no perfect answer." I think that's what most game design choices are. There are no one size fits all, and there are also always going to be developmental limitations that are not a product of bad design but just other restrictions. It starts to feel pointless to belabor criticism... I like your comparison about the boss styles. I am curious to see where they go from here. I think that, as DLC, they went wild and let it loose with difficulty and challenge, knowing people will be playing this for years to come. But with their huge success in ER, it's going to be interesting to see how they manage expectations. Do they throw a wild card at us, or do they succumb to mainstream success and go in to people pleasing mode. I'm sure it'll be the former, but money talks, unfortunately.
I want to believe that From will not bow to player requests/complaints and that the crazy success will not go to their heads. Mr. Miyazaki does not seem to be the type to let that happen but we’ll see. One of these days I want play through solo just to see if it really is that much harder than Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3. But there’s so much else I want to do first!
