Awesome! The best pretzel review I've seen, particularly the mention of a Hammerlock. You're helping me get back the dance moves I knew so well but have neglected for over ten years.
Wikipedia says “Twirling is a form of object manipulation where an object is twirled by one or two hands, the fingers or by other parts of the body.” We disavow your objectification of women.
@@stube49 I can see why you would say that. The viewing angle from the camera makes it difficult to see… but the angle from her shoulder to elbow is a 45 degree angle between being parallel to the angle from should to shoulder. Basically, she would hold her upper arm in the middle between flat out to the side and a 90 degree angle as if she had her upper arm pointed directly forward. Make sense? Lol
It sounds like you’re talking about partner pivots. We don’t have a video exclusively on those, but they do appear “in” some videos of longer patterns.
Are you trying to ruin a whole chapter of our country's history? You suck and you need to stop pretending to dance . You grew up in a place that never did this- five up you idiot.
Fun fact. I’ve danced Tejano most of my life.. spins and turns, lots of fun! Now retired, moved to a location where 2-step is king, taking lessons to learn 2-step, LOL!! Thank you for your videos! Gracias!!
By “trade partners”, do you mean dancing with multiple people socially? If so, yes. Social dancing is an activity that people use to socialize. Dancing isn’t something that is always romantic
overhead view is brilliant. your lessons and overall production are of high quality. thank you, and Rose I really like your steps so effortless and classy.
@@countrydancex thanks for the fast answer! I learned in a European dance school and as part of the "ballroom" package, so I was wondering about the naming ^^ just checked out your west coast swing video, that seems to be a similar concept as well. I think I'll be binging your videos now 😄
Thank you, Anthony and Rose! My husband and I achieved the impossible last night using your WCS teaching method. We had a whole floor of beginners dancing West Coast Swing after a 1/2 hour lesson. Unbelievable!! We have been trying to build a WCS community for over 20 years in our small town (Port Townsend, WA) but everyone gave up because it looked too hard and they got too hung up on the footwork. Now, thanks to you, we have a chance! ❤❤❤
3 Years later, my wife and I tried this for an hour or so today following along with the video. I sort of have it down but will have to practice it every day for a week to get my lead correct, footwork semi-smooth and the progression etched in my memory so I can actually lead it on the dancefloor in San Antonio. I'm not used to leading that first inside turn with no left hand and just raising my right arm along her frame. It is a subtle lead that she could miss but we got it down and it looks cool.
I’ve been teaching dance full time for 45 years - just here to compliment you on your teaching ability . Superb, all the details explained in an excellent way , especially for the social dancer
If the "Couple" button will not click, does that mean all the couple spots are taken? I would like to come to the Lexington, KY one with my husband, as it is a couple of days before our 41st nniversary. Thanks!!
Very informative, I was originally looking for another video you mentioned somewhere, it was something like "Reasons why you should do the progressive basic." I can't find it, but this one was close enough. Bottom line I'm having trouble getting students to want to do the progressive since literally no one does it that way in San Antonio, TX at the bar. Maybe one or two couples will do the progressive, but mainly it's the other version with the shuffle. My grandma and grandfather did it that way as well so I understand it's the classic way. This is a good break down between the two. However people want to do it the way everyone else is doing it, and I'm still having trouble convincing certain people otherwise. Maybe I'll teach them the shuffle version as asked until they hit a wall, and we need to switch it. Some people have to experience it for themselves. Texans can be stubborn lol
We've danced in SA many times. We're in Houston which is, for sure, a little more traditional. Most here still dance QQSS the way we teach. To be clear, we never use the phrase "progressive" when referring to Two Step. That is just to be assumed as that's how Two Step has always been danced (go all the way back to Urban Cowboy and watch the QQSS). In Dallas, they refer to the "shuffle version" as Three Step. We're on board with that I supposed. For us, it's weird that someone started dancing Two Step differently and we now have to change the name of the dance to "Progressive" haha On another note, dancing in SA is not all that surprising. Tejano dancing has a heavy influence in some areas of Texas.
Both of my comments are about things that you DID mention buried in other points, I just want to help bring them out more: 1. I firmly believe that EVERYONE should learn both parts, even if they only ever so one while "out dancing" for fun. It really helps to understand what's happening on the other side, and how it's perceived. It helps follows to know what the lead is asking them to do, and leads to know how to ask clearly. 2. This isn't "just" for Country Dancing. Dancing is dancing (though there is a BIG gap between social dancing and "performance" dancing, such as ballet (while still having SOME common elements)). Overall, thanks for this, and for all you do. You are, by far, my favorite (video) teachers. I won't tell you to keep it up, because I have, sadly, watched your "farewell" video, but thanks again.
Thanks for your videos they are appreciated. On this anchor stretch, I find that the follower may take excessive time to get into the stretch resulting in the stretch time missing the next beat of the music. I guess you simply hold the stretch longer for the next down beat? No instructors ever address this problem. I am ready for the next beat but the follower is not ready for what ever reason.
Anthony - have you thought about doing a video for dance instructors? We are starting a couples dance class and could use some guidance. Even though we know the dances, Two Step, Swing, cha and so on. What about teaching a group?
Hi there. Currently, we do A LOT of private coaching of instructors and studio owners via zoom. Without revealing too much, we are currently working towards something to help 😜 Stay tuned
Ty I love to dance & unfortunately my ole man is having hip & knee issues..but I do get up & dance with someone usually more woman than men r out there😂I would like to take dance lessons together when his issues r resolved thx again for ur videos ❤❤
Oh ty ty!❤ Im always up with my guy but hip issues & I can hold my own so I danced with this girl from Texas in NJ 😂 & I feel she had me looking like an idiot my guy videotaped it..& I told her to keep it light bc I didn’t know how..I got upset when I saw the video 😂
But I learned 8 counts where you don't go back to where to start. But thank you so much for this video. I've taken three level 1 lessons and only learned 8 count patterns. Then went to a different event and in the level 1 lesson learned 6 count patterns. And don't know when to use what how. THANK YOU FOR THIS!
I'm not 'up' on RU-vid protocols, so why do y'all have 105,k views but only 890 "likes"? The videos are great so there's no way 104,110 people watched y'all's videos and didn't like them. Does it not matter if we hit like?
We're glad you're enjoying them! The vast majority of viewers just watch without liking or commenting, and that's ok. We appreciate the positive feedback but it's never necessary :-)
I dance WCS for over 15 years, I recently want to learn how to lead and come across your videos. Very clear explanation and simple break down. Thank you very much for doing that. But I have difficulty to follow your video without break it down slowly and step by step of the hand movement. Do you have some videos to show the hand movement step by step in order to lead correctly ? How to place the hand is the main key to lead / guide the follower. Thanks
