Mountain Dan the Music Man says "Dharma is still hot". Swing and two step have the same timing (quick-quick -slow-slow/step-step-rock step) which I used to switch between the two in a minor dance contest I won. Dallas shuffle (triple step -slow-slow) is also the same beat as a swing, so you can switch between them also. Have fun...but watch out for the fun police or else you could get busted.

We were at the Broken Spoke twice in the days B.C. [before Covid]. The sign "Please do not stand on the dance floor" was not up then. It was a miserable place to dance. The floor is long and narrow, so when there are people on the floor---dancers as well as those both standing around inside the seating rail and crowded at the far end by the entrance---it was nearly impossible to do any progressive dance at all. Your lovely perpetually turning dance patterns, even with your profession sense of floor-craft, would have clobbered so many people that you would have caused a rumble after one dance. The most basic dance etiquette--progressive dances CCW around the outside, slot/spot dances in the middle--simply is not done and cannot be done here. It was so crowded, mostly it seemed with non-dancer-dancers from the university, each time we went that the other basic etiquette of country social dancing was never done---saying some kind of "oops, sorry" when you bang into someone [whether you banged them or they banged you]. Everybody was dancing [or just moving] every which way and we were banged so many times with never even a glance or a comment that I gave up after the first dance in even trying to be polite myself. It looks great when you are there with the floor to yourself. And I know everybody who is anybody seems to have played there once upon a time, but . . . southern Texas still has a lot of great dance halls [Anhalt, Gruene, Braun Hall ...] although many have now closed down. But the Broken Spoke seems now to have gone over to the "bump and grind" crowd. We used to have family in Magnolia, so maybe we can get your way sometime. Happy Dancing to all!
