It brought a tear to my eye watching this amazing advert. The wonderful cinematography, soundtrack and poem. It says *Great Britain* and boy it made feel so proud to be *British* I love this *great* land of *ours* and salute her. It wasn't just saying goodbye to a once great *British Railway* but also to a once *GREAT Great Britain* the *greatest* land in the world 🇬🇧
If Inter-City had a commercial in 2024, it would go like this: When David Bowie recorded his 1976 album Station to Station, no one knew that the means of transportation would change forever. Inter-City railways will take you from London to every station... even the cities that end in " shire "... and it would take up the whole commercial to name them all. Yorkshire, Berkenshire....I said it would take too long to name them!! Like I said, getting from here to there is always in fashion, Inter-City, connecting Station to Station ( horn ), and Heart to Heart! That sounds brilliant, do you agree? 🚞😀👍🏻!
Today, 2024, it's tight to do Plymouth to Padd and have 7 hours there, then dinner on the way back - Today it would be late night snack on the way back 😂
On an earlier comment was a question was Keith Barron the commentator in this ad. I think it is. I've just watched Keith Barron playing a violent escaped prisoner in 'z Cars'. The name of the episode is 'The Prisoner'. Versatile actor
"Have you ever heard of a train getting nicked for speeding?" Yes. The Pennsylvania Railroad was fined because their S1 Locomotive was doing 156 mph. Allegedly.
A beautiful ship I have been a member of PSPS since the 1980's when we saw her leaving Largs while on holiday. I have never been on the Thames, going under Tower Bridge is one I would like to do, most of my cruises have been in Scotland
Cheers for crediting my Golders Green photo, although sorry to hear the kiosk has now been removed. I used to regularly commute through the station, but now only do that one day a week, and so hadn't noticed the absence. Of course the majority of surviving K8s in England are actually in and around Kingston upon Hull (where I spent my first 17 years), a legacy of its unique municipal telephone system, now run by Kingston Communications (KCOM). Of the whopping 45 extant KCOM K8s - all in traditional cream livery - nine were Grade II Listed in March 2023. Hull also has a number of surviving K6s, notable for the lack the crowns above the door/windows (initially ground off, but later as manufactured).
JFK opened the @SeattleMonorail about the time of his Rice University speech ...we shall do this [MoonShot] and the other things [monorail] not because they are easy.....😊
Showing that, with a small amount of infrastructure work, the link between Aylesbury and the EWR/Varsity Line COULD be reinstated at a reasonable cost. Sadly, plans for that have been scrapped for now, but I hear the MP for Aylesbury IS still pushing hard for it to happen eventually.
