I'm surprised you could walk through any of the streets at all. I've not been in the town for lots of years now (on New Year's Eve), but the last time we went out on NYE there you could barely move in Fore Street or on the Harbour front, there was no spare space at all, they were crammed in like sardines. And you could barely get into any of the pubs whatsoever, it was absolutely rammed to the hilt, you had to fight to try to get through the people to the bar, IF you could even get a foot in the door lol. Did it get any busier than this video at all last year? It always used to be that shedloads of tourists descended on our town for New Year's Eve and it got busier and busier each year until we eventually stopped going because we couldn't stand the jostling, it just wasn't any fun being elbowed and shoved along in the crowds. And there were so many that you could go through town and have a job to see anyone you knew who lived there, so many thousands of people used to ship in for the night. I actually saw a familiar face of old in this video. I think they said one year before we stopped going that they estimated there were around 10,000 people in town. The night became a victim of its own success, I think. At least for those of us who don't do huge crowds anyway. I like to see it at a distance, online these days, so thanks for posting the video. It's coming time to say Happy New Year again, so, all the best for 2024 mate!
There are soime blotches in the video because I can't remove some grey spots which are stuck under my UV filter and the filter is cross threaded . Bad luck!!! So in a way I may need to get a new camera.
I made a big mistake -really really sorry. I'm very glad that he is still around and I appologize and very very sorry I made a mistake!!!!! Stupid me !! I should have checked things out.!!!!!!!
I got a little confused searching for this video! Couldn't remember the title, I haven't seen any Hummingbird moths for a long time alkthough I call them Sphinx moths.
This film was taken out past Clodgy, at Five Points, first Point. Arthur knew exactly where to go to get these spectacular shots. I'll wager few grockles know about this site, which I have trod countless times, growing up in St.Ives. This film captures the dramatic force, power and noise of a sight few experience. I remember one such occasion back in the early 50's, drenched to the skin, when a low-flying Lancaster from RAF ST Eval roared past, pilot waving at me...the roar of the waves and four Merlin engines; what more did one want?!! Well done Arthur and thanks for the vid!
Kind of disappointed because the UV filter cross threaded and I can't remove the filter - got stuck and I can't remove it to clean the main lens -dust on the main lens shows up- totally immovable. Maybe I can find a way to remove it or find a good camera shop to fix it.
Actually maybe I forgot to clean the filter with some lens cleaner and there wou;dn't be a foggy bit although there are some little dusty bits on the main lens. Stupid me!!!
I've decided I maybe have to get a new Lumix camera -unfortunately i cross threaded the UV filter over the main lens and hence I can't (nor can anyone else) remove dust from the main lens -it is really stuck which effects the clarity which might be apparent in the video. A bit unlucky.
