Do any professionals play songs without accenting the hi hats with the tips of the stick, I mean you can't always tell if they are using the tip to accent on songs... Also why do you have to do rim shots for a hi hat and kick drum video lesson, do some drummers only play rim shots all the time, trying to sound serious because not everyone learns this way! Otherwise, good video but I wonder if beginners out there will think, oh man i need to do rim shots, then strain themselves on every song they play. Same goes for hi-hat techniques, do what comfortable to learn drums, then take notes from videos, you can just use a snare, or play around with toms, you don't have to learn the whole kit at once, since I've been drumming since 90's, I learned the hardway! What I mean by strain, as you learn rim shots for one, you can injure yourself just like bad sitting postures! Every hit doesn't have to be a Chad Smith rock song. Stay loose!

I did his method on wood snare but the rim edge near #6 lug got smashed, then I read somewheres how too loose of a lug might do this. So be care with any kind of loose tuning and rim shots on for good bearing edges.

You stated early in video that you linked to a video explaining how to learn Vinnie's tom & bass drum pattern...R hand, L foot, L hand, R foot? Where? Why not... R hand, R foot, L hand, L foot? Why the cross?

It's in the full lesson on www.joecrabtree.com/ Right hand comes on the beat. The right foot precedes it. Think of the feet leading the hands, but the hands are on the 8th notes.

This lesson shows you a nice dynamic trick on hihat to play 8ths and being a ghost on the &'s, just by striking the hat differently for the accents, then without a word he automatically just did that on the triplets accenting the 1/4's and using the tip on the top to get the quiet triplet strikes. Hey I kind of thought this was going to be about the feet, like a 4way independence deal. You can get the 1/4's on the hat with your foot and free your right hand or using that method to get the open hat on the right hand for the &'s.

Terrific stuff! It makes me appreciate how daunting a Frank Zappa audition must have been... He smiles as he hands you a page of squiggles and you have 45 seconds to read it through before he expects you to play it note-perfect with groove and flair. Yikes. Vinnie was famously (and uniquely?) on top of the situation and got the job, but I bet 99% of ordinary drummers would have walked out, apologising to Frank for having wasted his time. 🤭

maybe my ear canal to small , trying the sure se215, if im next marchal half stack i cannot hear anything usefull. when i sing its worse, i hear my own voice loud in my head, like if you plug ears with fingers its real loud, again drowning out everything, i dont understand how singers use in ears without being bothered by this efect

I don’t think he had the delay on for the whole song…the bass drum double hits don’t come every time and he plays a lot of different hihat variations that aren’t echoed.
